Over the weekend the 45th President walked out to one of his MAGA rallies to Pharrell’s smash hit, “Happy.” This was just moments after the massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
On October 29th, on the behalf of Pharrell, attorney Howard King sent a cease-and-desist letter to the White House.
It wrote, “On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist,’ you played his song ‘Happy’ to a crowd at a political event in Indiana,” King states in the letter. “There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”
“Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music,” King continues. “The use of ‘Happy’ without permission constitutes copyright infringement.”
As of now, it looks as though the 45th President wont be blasting the Despicable Me 2 track no time soon.
