Hall Of Fame Day AI! 7 Ways Allen Iverson Changed The Game Forever

The Las Vegas Superstar Challenge - News Conference

Allen Iverson‘s impact on the NBA will never be forgotten. The bad boy label he received upon entering the league did nothing but fuel the fire that led him to be one of the smallest yet dominating point guards to ever touch the court. He kept the antics to a minimum but his personality was always on display, whether it be an entertaining press conference or crossing over your favorite player’s favorite player. He was the man and the answer.

To celebrate his induction into the NBA Hall of Fame, here are the ways Allen Iverson changed the game.

Ushering In The Dreaded Dress Code

Philadelphia 76ers V Sacramento Kings

In October 2005, David Stern changed the NBA’s dress code, and the new set of rules was often jokingly referred to as the “A.I. Rule.” Some thought the rules were racist or a slap in the face to the hip-hop community with XXXXL shirts, baggy jeans, Timberlands and oversized necklaces being banned. Iverson did usher in flashy dressing and soon became the scapegoat for the new rule.

The NBA’s Tattoo Wave

Did Iverson invent tattoos? Far from it. But the Philly legend shed light on the ink whenever he suited up for the 76ers. From the Chinese symbols on his neck to the full sleeves, Iverson always showed off his tattoos. Arms were mostly bare before his reign, and afterwards the tatted trend exploded. From fellow bad boy J.R. Smith getting a “Young Money” tattoo on his neck to Kenyon Martin getting lips tattooed on his neck, Iverson’s presence is still felt on the court every night.

Being A Flashy Player With A Killer Crossover

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/NAZvvaT79g8 service=youtube width=560 height=315 type=iframe]

Allen Iverson put the team on his back and wasn’t afraid to let you know it. That crossover on Tyronn Lue might be one the most cringeworthy yet best plays to ever happen on the hardwood. Iverson had no problem dribbling circles around his opponents to step back and drain a long-range three. Or if he felt like it, he wasn’t scared to drive into the paint and draw contact while scoring an easy lay-up. Every night he played he left it all on the court and as a 76ers fan, there’s not much more you can ask for.

Sneaker Deals

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/U59ywoXhGZ4 service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

With the Michael Jordan reign coming to an end, many wondered which player would now have the hottest sneakers. While Reebok had previous athletes like Shaq, his line wasn’t the biggest success. But Reebok had a star on its hands with the Iverson collection. The shoes were versatile coming in high top and low top editions and embodied everything that was Iverson: sturdy and flashy. It was further proof that there was more room for more than just Nike in the athletic footwear world.

Press Conference Shenanigans

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/eGDBR2L5kzI service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

Practice? We’re sitting here, I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we’re in here talking about practice,” asked Iverson in one of the most entertaining post-game press conferences in sports history. The only person to rival his overall attitude with the press is Marshawn “‘Bout That Action” Lynch.

The NBA’s Obsession with Braids

Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson (R) kisses his d

The early 2000s led to trend of dudes having braids, much of which can be attributed to Iverson’s rise to the top of the NBA. Not only did this lead to some of your male classmates having awkward afros for months and walking around with picks for the better part of a semester. And while it was perfectly plausible to see one of your friends getting their hair braided on a stoop (word to R. Kelly) Iverson took things a bit further when his mother braided his hair during a game while A.I. sat courtside. Who else would have the audacity to do that?

Actually Being A Good Rapper (And An Amazing Athlete)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/2skYVPGExgY service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

Please don’t forget that Iverson actually had bars and also don’t forget that his rap name is Jewelz. One of his best songs is “40 Bars” which has so many hot lines that it’s featured on Genius. With lyrics like “get murdered in a second in the first degree” A.I. is out to prove that he’s about that life. Iverson was definitely one of the best ball players-turned-rappers, with the exception of Kobe Bryant. Kobe comes out on top simply off of getting that Tyra Banks feature.

Kanye West Fans Try To Convince NFL To Let Yeezus Perform At The Super Bowl

The Official Birthday Bash Afterparty Hosted by Future

Kanye West fans sometimes go harder for Kanye than Kanye goes for Kanye.

Since Adele announced that she turned down the opportunity to perform during the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show, the Internet decided that it should be Yeezus who takes the stage by starting the hashtag campaign, #KanyeWestForSuperBowl51.

The league has been pretty strict about choosing non-controversial artists to hit the halftime stage following Janet Jackson‘s nip-slip-gate, so there’s no guarantee that the social media campaign will work…but it’s great entertainment.

Check out some of the best #KanyeWestForSuperBowl51 tweets below:

Suge Knight Allegedly Sent Goons After Eminem At The 2001 Source Awards

024976.CA.0221.Eminem2.km–– Eminem accepts for Best Rap Album at the 43rd Grammy Award Show held at

Suge Knight is known for his alleged assault attempts and he is currently in prison awaiting trial for hit-and-run incident from January 2015.

Eminem‘s former bodyguard Byron “Big Naz” Williams revealed that Suge once tried to get at the rapper.

In an interview with Murder Master Music Show, Big Naz uncovered what happened at The Source Awards in  2001.

“We were at The Source Awards and we all know historically in the past, The Source Awards, someone always got shot. That was our first encounter with Suge Knight and his henchman. Em was going to his seat. The way they had the seating was all messed up and the bodyguards couldn’t sit with the artists. I think that was by design ’cause I think they really wanted the artists to be able to network with each other, but it also gives people who got beef with other artists to get at them,” he said.

But things soon turned sour when there was suddenly a small crowd around Slim Shady.

He’s beefing with all these guys in these red shirts,” Big Naz says. Knight is affiliated with the Bloods. “So I come from where I was at, I had to come back around, I noticed Em’s face changing, he’s turning like tomato red. There’s a sea of red guys around him. I had to bust through the middle man and snatch him up. Like, ‘Hey man what the hell’s going on up here?’ This is exactly what they said, ‘Death Row, motherfucker, Death Row.’”

Big Naz speaks more on the situation in his book Shady Business along with plenty of other crazy stories.

B.I.G. things are coming to TBS.

The network announced on Thursday that it will be developing a scripted comedy inspired by Brooklyn-rapper Notorious B.I.G., entitled Think B.I.G..

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the series will chronicle the misadventures of an inner-city teen desperately trying to create a better future for his daughter and infant son. The plot will be loosely based on his lyrics. The comedy is being produced and created by Mass Appeal, in partnership with Wayne Barrow of Bystorm Films and Voletta Wallace for Notorious B.I.G. Inc.

For those of you who like a good hip-hop inspired film or television show, there’s a ton in the works.

In addition the VH1’s The Breaks movie becoming a television series, Baz Luhrmann will be behind Netflix’s The Get Down, a 70’s era show about the emergence of hip-hop during the disco era.

There’s also The Land, a film being executive produced by Nas and Erykah Badu, that tells the story of three boys who sell ecstasy to fund their skateboard competitions.

Aside from the Biggie-inspired show on TBS, the network picked up 10 episodes of animated digital series Storyville, also in conjunction with Mass Appeal.

Storyville and Think B.I.G. speak to the types of projects we will cultivate with Mass Appeal moving forward,” said Brett Weitz, executive vp original programming at TBS. “Mass Appeal is a leader in developing unique stories with diverse voices. There’s no better partner for us to connect with this vibrant, impassioned audience.”

Can’t wait for all these projects!

Russell Simmons’ Adopted Son Jinx Writes Letter From Jail

Dear Russell,

As I sit here writing this letter in federal prison with two years and a half in on a 25-year sentence I received due to “Mandatory Minimum Drug Laws,” I still cannot believe how much time they gave me for a minor role in a drug conspiracy I had no direct knowledge of.

Nonetheless, I have not allowed my circumstances to discourage my resilient character or plans for my future. My story is inspiring or terrifying, depending on what part you highlight. Therefore, I ask that my incarceration not be held in vain but increase your motivation to fight against these harsh drug laws – not only because of personal interest due to my situation, but because of so many other young brothers’ lives you will save all across the country that have become prey for our so-called justice system.

Mandatory minimums keep us confined well after the so-called rehabilitation period. In fact, it seems like the longer someone serves in prison, the less chance he has once released. I ain’t here trying to justify our actions of crime, but for a second, imagine a 20-year-old kid released from prison at 43 years old. It is perceived to be a new beginning, but in actuality, he’s forced to secure a future that most people have already established by then. Following the thoughts and fantasies that have raced through his mind the past 20 years, a man is usually so eager to obtain these things, he resorts to the same actions that landed him in prison in the first place.

How can we call that justice? How does this help us as a society? How can a person who commits murder or rapes a child receive lesser time than an individual who is charged with a low-level drug offense? I agree with Michelle Alexander: we are living in a mass incarceration age of colorblindness, which has become the New Jim Crow. Not to sound like a revolutionist or politician because I’m far from both – I’m just a rapper who made a poor choice to get involved in selling drugs – but I’m using my voice to shed light on this harsh reality. Until my pen bang again, I wanna shout out F.A.M.M. (Families Against Mandatory Minimums). Y’all hard work doesn’t go unnoticed behind these walls.

Love, “Ya Son Jinx aka BK Cavali”

President Obama At The DNC: ‘The American Dream Is Something No Wall Can Ever Contain’

On the third night of the Democratic National Convention, President Barack Obama closed out the night with a speech that, like First Lady Michelle Obama, brought the audience to tears.

POTUS reflected on what he and America have accomplished in the past eight years, called for the nation to be united and affirmed why Hillary Clinton should be our next President. He also stressed what’s really at stake this November, which is why everyone needs to exercise their right to vote.

“Democracy is not a spectator sport,” he told the crowd in Philadelphia.

“This is not your typical election. It’s not just a choice between parties or policies; the usual debates between left and right. This is a more fundamental choice — about who we are as a people, and whether we stay true to this great American experiment in self-government,” he added.

POTUS continued by attacking Donald Trump, painting the Republican nominee as a fear monger, ill-equipped to be the leader of the Free World and someone who sells Americans short, CNN noted.

“Donald Trump calls it ‘a divided crime scene’ that only he can fix,” Obama said of Trump describing the current state of America. “He’s just offering slogans, and he’s offering fear. He’s betting that if he scares enough people, he might score just enough votes to win this election.”

That is another bet that Donald Trump will lose,” Obama continued. “Because he’s selling the American people short. We are not a fragile or frightful people. Our power doesn’t come from some self-declared savior promising that he alone can restore order. We don’t look to be ruled.”

For Obama, his former secretary of state is the most qualified “man or woman” for this position than he has ever seen, including himself and Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton.

“I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody — more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America,” he said.

“Nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office. You can read about it. You can study it. Until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis, or send young people to war. But Hillary’s been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions,” POTUS stressed.

And while the RNC speeches in Cleveland last week consisted of “just a fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate,” POTUS offered an alternative: One of hope, promise and togetherness.

“The American dream is something no wall can ever contain,” he said as the crowd erupted in applause.

President Obama closed his speech thanking Americans for inspiring him over the past eight years and asked them join him to help elect Clinton as the next president of the United States.

“Thank you for this incredible journey, let’s keep it going,” he concluded. As he finished, Clinton herself stepped out on to the stage as the two embraced and waved to the crowd hand in hand.

What a night, what a speech! Thank you Mr. President.

Watch President Obama’s entire speech:

POTUS wasn’t the only one to speak on Wednesday. Vice President Joseph Biden, Vice President nominee Tim Kaine, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Flint mayor Karen Weaver and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg all made their case why Clinton is a better choice for America.

After months of a grueling campaign, Hillary Clinton made history Tuesday night by clinching the Democratic party nomination for president.

The news was met with enthusiastic applause following a 90-minute roll call vote, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was a far cry from Monday’s booing of Clinton at the first night of the Democratic National Convention following email scandals and vehement opposition from supporters of her rival, Bernie Sanders.

But rousing speeches from Sanders, First Lady Michelle Obama and Senator Elizabeth Warren Monday no doubt helped unify the party behind Clinton, or, at the very least, against Trump.

Michelle Obama said Monday:

“I am here tonight because I know that that is the kind of president that Hillary Clinton will be, and that’s why in this election, I’m with her. Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters, and all our sons and daughters, now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”

Sanders, who was met with cheers from a three-minute thunderous applause Monday, conceded his own candidacy for the role weeks ago, and threw his support behind Clinton enthusiastically in the past days.

“It is easy to boo, but it’s harder to look your kids in the face who would be living under Donald Trump,” Sanders told California delegates at a surprise breakfast Tuesday. “Trump is the worst candidate for president in the modern history of this country.”

The final roll call tallies were 2838 for Clinton, 1843 for Sanders and 55 abstentions, according to ABC News.

Dr. Dre Handcuffed Outside His Malibu Home After Man Accuses Him Of Pointing Gun

An Alternative View Of The Premiere Of Universal Pictures And Legendary Pictures' 'Straight Outta Compton'

Rapper and entrepreneur Dr. Dre was cuffed  outside of his Malibu home on Monday after an apparent road rage incident.

Sources close to the Hip-Hop icon told TMZ  that when Dre arrived at his home there was a car parked in his driveway. Dre requested that the man move, which he did, but not before yelling obscenities at the rapper.

Dre then pulled out his phone to record the verbal attack, but the man asserted that Dre had, in fact, pulled out a gun, saying, “Here we go again, another black guy with a gun.”

The man then called the police, who arrived at the scene and promptly cuffed Dre.  They searched the mogul and found nothing, so they quickly uncuffed him.

The man, however, was adamant in his claim of seeing a handgun, and decided to file a report.

This case will now go to the District Attorney who will decide whether or not there is a legitimate case against the rapper.  If the reports are at all accurate, it is unlikely any charges will be filed.

It seems most likely that the unknown aggressor attempted to use race to victimize himself, when he was in fact the one in the wrong.

[WATCH] First Lady Michelle Obama Brings Down The House At The #DNCinPHL: ‘When They Go Low, We Go High’

During the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, First Lady Michelle Obama took to the stage and delivered an emotional speech that brought the audience to tears.

Looking stunning in a cobalt blue sheath dress by Christian Siriano, the first lady condemned the hateful language “that we hear from public figures on TV,” saying that “our motto is, when they go low, we go high,” CNN noted. FLOTUS also took a stab at Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan, using a personal story of raising her children in a White House that was built by slaves.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that America isn’t great. This right now is the greatest country on earth,” she said.

And with Hillary Clinton as President, FLOTUS believes this country can be even stronger and continue the legacy of her husband President Barack Obama.

“This election — every election — is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of our lives. And I am here tonight because in this election, there is only one person who I trust with that responsibility — only one person who I believe is truly qualified to be President of the United States. And that is our friend, Hillary Clinton,” she said.

“I am here tonight because I know that that is the kind of president that Hillary Clinton will be, and that’s why in this election, I’m with her,” she continued. “Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters, and all our sons and daughters, now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”

In the end, FLOTUS electrified the crowd with a moving and inclusive speech that will go down in the history books. It was so good that we’re pretty sure it will be heard at 2020’s Republican National Convention.
We should all be proud of our amazing, eloquent and poised First Lady.
