7 Easy Tips For Making It Through The Holidays Without Losing Your Mind

woman-christmas-lightsIt’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but as the holiday season is upon us again, for many it’s the most stressful time of the year. From visits with family and out-of-town guests, buying gifts for everyone on your list, cooking, decorating and more, the holidays sometimes bring more stress than they do joy.

MUST READ: HelloBeautiful Teams Up With DooBop To Get You Glam This Holiday Season

It doesn’t always have to be that way. You can deck your halls with boughs of holly while the chestnuts are roasting over an open fire and jingle his bells all without popping a sweat. Trust us, peace in the midst of the most overactive time of the year is possible. Ok, so the next thing we’re about to say may be a little strange…ok we got advice from a hypnotherapist. What?! You get advice from your crazy friend all the time! Give him a chance. He actually makes a lot of sense.

Colin Christopher, a clinical hypnotherapist certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, and author of Success Through Manipulation, offers these simple, but effective tips to reduce stress and make it through the the holidays:

1. Don’t procrastinate: You can reduce stress with a little bit of planning and getting an early start. If you wait until the last minute and find yourself pressed for time, you’re going to experience more stress.

2. Learn to say ‘no:’ If you have a hard time telling people ‘no,’ you’re going to find yourself overcommitted, tired, unable to do the things you really want to do and stressed out. It’s ok to say ‘no’ if you don’t want to do something or don’t have the time to do it.

3. Get plenty of sleep: The holidays are an exciting time, but people tend to neglect getting enough rest due to travel, staying up late with family, overeating and feeling overwhelmed. Make sleep a priority during the holidays and you’ll enjoy the season more.

4. Take a moment for yourself: During the holidays, we have so many commitments to our family, friends, visitors, office parties and more, and people tend to forget about themselves. Even as little as 20 to 30 minutes each day to do something you enjoy or to go for a walk by yourself will refresh you, relieve stress and help you enjoy the holidays.

5. Breathe: If you’re feeling overly anxious or stressed, take a few minutes to slow your breathing down. Breathe in through your diaphragm (stomach area), hold for a few seconds, and slowly release through your mouth.

6. Stand back and appreciate the moment: We tend to get so caught up in the moment that it’s over before we know it. Take time to step back and enjoy the time with your family, playing in the snow with your kids, and just be thankful for all you have. You’ll naturally feel less stressed and more satisfied when you are thankful for everything around you.

7. Get rid of expectations: Some people place very high expectations on the holidays. They picture everything playing out in a specific way, and find themselves disappointed and stressed out when things don’t go according to plan. Get rid of your expectations and just let life happen. You’ll feel less stressed and have more fun.

Update: Diddy/Drake Altercation Over Money, Not Cassie

drake diddy

The alleged altercation between Diddy and Drake was apparently about money, and not Cassie, as previously speculated. TMZ is reporting that the two met outside of Liv nightclub in Miami, and the topic of conversation was business related. Their voices raised and an eyewitness stated that Diddy told Drake, “You will never disrespect me” and then punched him in the face.

The fight is said to have only been that one punch, which left Drake shocked and stunned, but not knocked out. According to Rick Ross‘ DJ Sam Sneak, the altercation did result in the Young Money MC dislocating his shoulder. If so, that immediately contends the claim that it was just a one punch and done type of deal. Check the tweets.

Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood (Episode 7) [VIDEO]

Love & Hip-Hop Hollywood

Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood is up to its seventh episode of the season! The show began in extreme tmi fashion with Omarion and Apryl discussing their relationship and upcoming birth of their son. The former B2k star explains the conversation he had with his mother and that she should be coming to apologize very soon. The MMG crooner pretty much prepped the viewers for a very awkward exchange between the two women that was sure to come within the 60-minute VH-1 time-slot.

We then move along to a recording session with Teirra Marie, who didn’t do too well the last time she put a microphone to her mouth — no pun intended. The R&B singer is seen recording a new record that Yung Berg is producing for her, and seems to be a pretty good song. The two exchange gratitude and good vibes while Berg begins to clearly plot on his next move — getting the draws! After moving passed the creeplife segment, the show jumps to an interesting portion courtesy of Soulja Boy and Nia. The young couple have been discussing cohabitation, which would require a formal meeting between Nia’s father Teddy Riley and the former ringtone rapper. The sit down plays out in typical ‘father meeting the boyfriend for the first time’ fashion, with plenty of piercing stares and heavy grilling.

But alas, the “turn-up” portion of the show has arrived. The not-as-turnt-up version of Ray J officially disappeared in this episode, with the singer clearly still upset about the situation with Yesi and Morgan. Storming into the Power 106 radio station, Brandy’s little brother flew off the handle and needed to be escorted out by security. The unraveling continued, as the reality star was then arrested for some very drunken belligerent behavior. This all of course leads to a meeting between him and Teirra, who expressed her concern for his well-being to Ray’s manager. The meeting between the former couple went as smooth as sand paper, baby!

And not to be outdone, we have the always entertaining ‘situationship’ between Yung Berg and Hazel-E. In the last episode, we saw an exchange between the two that ended with the rapper-turned-producer stating that he’d send her some beats to work on. In the beginning of this week’s version, we actually see Hazel in the studio recording to one of said beats. Of course, she’s making a song that has to do with their “relationship”. And as you can imagine, a meeting happened between the two to discuss the song, which the aspiring rapper decided to play for her on-again-off-again boyfriend…or whatever. What followed at the conclusion of the song was some of the realest dialogue ever spoken on reality television.

Check this week’s version of “realness” below.

Murda Mook – “6 God” (Freestyle) [MUSIC]

You didn’t think Drake‘s “6 God” would go without its fair share of responses, did you?

After Murda Mook called out the YMCMB rapper at the BET Awards, we knew Drake would respond in some sort of way. On “6 God” he raps, “I’m not new to this” which could be in reference as to whether or not the Toronto spitter would be able to handle himself in a battle with Mook. And being the legendary battle MC that he is, the Harlem MC couldn’t let these shots go unnoticed.

Here’s Murda Mook’s version of “6 God”. From the sounds of it, it seems like he just wanted to deliver a few light jabs until someone drops that bag of money. What do you think?

Who Knew LeVar Burton Had All This Power? His Reading Of “Go The F*ck To Sleep” Goes Viral!

Actor and reading advocate LeVar Burton is a household name for many reasons. From his roles in “Roots” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation” to his 80s beloved show “Reading Rainbow” (that just recently went through a $5 million Kickstarter revival), he’s a pop culture staple. In addition, his role on the board of directors of the AIDS Research Alliance, Burton continues to impact lives in one way or another.

Burton’s latest project is inspiring in a completely different way. As part of a charity event for the Children’s Miracle Network, Burton read the infamous children’s book parody “Go The F*ck To Sleep” by Adam Mansbach to a small group of onlookers. In partnership with video game website Rooster Teeth’s Extra Life fundraiser, the reading managed to raise just north of $440,000. The nostalgia factor alone is enough to make it worth watching, but if “Reading Rainbow” wasn’t your thing for some reason, the prospect of Burton cursing up a storm is just as entertaining. The video clocked about 250,000 views on YouTube in just one day.

Burton isn’t the first person to do a live reading of the book. Residential badass Samuel L. Jackson recorded an audio tape in 2011. While video of Jackson’s reading seems to have capped at 451,000 views, Burton’s is sure to hit a million within the next couple days, with a total of 686,000 and counting.
