Washington Hires Jason Wright As First Black Team President in NFL History

ASHBURN, VA. — The Washington Football Team has hired Jason Wright as their new team president. This historic move makes Wright the first ever black team president of an NFL franchise.

Wright, a Northwestern grad and two-time All-Big Ten runningback, got his start in the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing by the San Francisco 49ers before signing on with the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-2005. He played until 2010, also joining the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals before his retirement.

After his NFL career was over, Wright earned his MBA from Chicago Booth on his way to a successful business and front office career over the past decade.

When asked on The Today Show about his new job Wright said “I think first and foremost it’s obviously very personal for me…[I] played a decent amount of time in the league and then became a businessman and cut my teeth in some of the best business schools. I have been helping some of the most complex and important organizations around the world transform over the last few years, so for me it’s personal and an opportunity to bring together my two worlds in a really unique way, at a unique time.”  As for becoming the first black team president in NFL history, Wright added “The fact that I happen to be black and the most qualified person for this is a boost.”

Philadelphia Eagles made an addition to the receiving core that the fans will have to wait another year to see. Eagles newest Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin opts out of playing the 2020 NFL season. Goodwin made a video explaining his reasoning behind sitting out this year. The speedy receiver explained that he is simply doing this for the safety of his daughter Marae and wife Morgan.

Goodwin states that the health of his family is #1 and will not be selfish by putting them at risk.

Due to the uncertain regulations, the NFL has yet to create while the world battles COVID-19 many players are also taking the same approach as Goodwin. Last week, many NFL players tweeted at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on the discomfort they are feeling starting training camp with no set plan.

Philadelphia Eagles have recently honored long time Birds fan Kobe Bryant with a mural. Although the NBA legend spent his whole career rocking the purple and gold he always had an Eagles jersey on when Sunday rolled around. Earlier in the year, we lost Kobe and his daughter Gigi Bryant in a tragic helicopter accident. The Philadelphia Eagles honored the legendary Lower Merion Basketball player with a mural inside the practice facility.

The video was caught originally via Eagles receiver Alshon Jefferys Instagram. The mural has Kobe’s 10 Rules listed on the wall alongside a painting of Bryant in an Eagles jersey. Kobe Bean Bryant has shown on multiple occasions that he bleeds green but the most precious moment was his reaction to the Super Bowl win back in 2017. Check the full video out below!

15 Women Accuse Former Redskins Employees of Sexual Harassment

ASHBURN, Va. — The much anticipated exposé was published by the Washington Post on Thursday evening. It highlights a rampant culture rife with tolerated sexual harassment that has been brought to light from the allegations of the fifteen former female staffers, highlighted by former staffer Emily Applegate.

In the past week, three Washington employees Richard Mann II, Alex Santos and the radio broadcaster Larry Michael have all either been fired or left the team. All three of these men face the lion’s share of the articles’ allegations. Other former employees like Dennis Greene, former president of business operations and Mitch Gershman, former chief operating officer also levied allegations of misconduct.

On Larry Michael: “Seven former employees said Michael routinely discussed the physical appearance of female colleagues in sexual and disparaging overtones. In 2018, Michael was caught on a ‘hot mic’ speaking about the attractiveness of a college-aged intern, according to six former employees who heard the recording. Michael declined an interview request and retired Wednesday.”

On Alex Santos: “Santos, the club’s director of pro personnel, was accused by six former employees and two reporters who covered the team of making inappropriate remarks about their bodies and asking them if they were romantically interested in him. In 2019, Santos was the subject of an internal investigation after Rhiannon Walker, a reporter for The Athletic, informed club management Santos had pinched her, told her she had ‘an ass like a wagon,’ and repeatedly asked her to date him, Walker said in an interview with The Post. Nora Princiotti, a reporter for The Ringer who formerly covered the team, also said in an interview that she was harassed by Santos. Santos, who was fired this past week, declined to comment.”

On Richard Mann II: “[Mann,] assistant director of pro personnel, who in one text message obtained by The Post told a female employee he and colleagues debated whether her breasts had been surgically enhanced and in another text message told another female employee to expect  an ‘inappropriate hug…And don’t worry that will be a stapler in my pocket, nothing else.’ Mann, who also was fired last week, declined to comment.”

On Dennis Greene: “[Greene] implored female staff to wear low-cut blouses, tight skirts and flirt with wealthy suite holders, according to five former employees, including Applegate. Green’s 17-year career with the club ended in 2018 amid a scandal over the revelation he had sold access to Redskins cheerleaders — as part of premium quite packages. Greene declined to comment.”

On Mitch Gershman: “[Gershman] who Applegate said routinely berated her for trivial problems such as printer malfunctions while also complimenting her body. Two other former female employees supporters Applegate’s account of her sexual harassment and verbal abuse by Gershman, who left the team in 2015.”

The story paints a picture of a toxic work environment where employees were “all just afraid for our jobs and trying to make it.” Specifically about Michael, one former staffer put it bluntly, “They’re not going to get rid of ‘The Voice of the Redskins’…over a $30,000-a-year marketing manager.”

Dan Snyder and the Washington Football team retained the services of Beth Wilkinson “to do an independent review of the team’s culture, policies and allegations of workplace misconduct.” This move is looking more and more like lawyering up more than reviewing the team culture.

A week of rampant speculation preceded the publishing of this story What a week for Washington Football.

Bradley Beal, Thomas Bryant, Coach Brooks And More Give Updates On Wizards Season Restart Plan

The Washington Wizards are off to a hot start in July by holding press conferences describing how the past four-plus months have been. As many of us can agree, trying to overcome a global pandemic and social injustice has brought us all much to think about and learn. That is no different for the superstars and staff in the National Basketball Association (NBA), who are working hard to make basketball happen in a bubble in Orlando, Florida in the next few weeks.

Wizards’ General Manager Tommy Sheppard, Chief of Athlete Care, Performance Daniel Medina, and Head Coach Scott Brooks all spoke this week media via Zoom expressing their sincere understanding for players and staff on all fronts as the travel dates approach for Orlando. The Wizards forward Davis Bertans has already announced that he will not play when the NBA re-starts. Sheppard said, “He’s a very big piece of our team. That was certainly something that he had given me a heads up plenty of time before. We discussed it with the coach. We brought it up and we certainly support his reasons for not playing.” For now, he is the only confirmation of a key Wizards player that will not be playing. However, Guard Bradley Beal says that he hasn’t made a decision yet on playing when the NBA restarts, “I’m not swayed, one way or another.” Beal has still been working out diligently in the event that he does decide to play in Orlando. The league has required a 35-team cap, with a few weeks away it will be interesting to see the final who will travel with the Wizards as playoffs are still a goal.

Despite the players and staff doing their best in staying in shape and healthy. This may still be an obstacle on how at home and Zoom training over the past few months translate to basketball shape. Two very different conditions. Coach Brooks said, “Everybody’s in pretty good shape, but you can’t be in pretty good shape to play in the NBA. So, we have some time before we go down to Orlando.” As they travel to Florida creeps up, workouts and training will hopefully get the team closer to their goal. Sheppard and Brooks expressed that it will be a good opportunity for the team.

Although it may be nice to have the NBA slowly coming back to action, basketball is not the only topic that holds a spotlight. Social justice does too. When the games start fans will also see ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the courts in Orlando. Coach Brooks expressed this movement playing a significant role in their game, “It’s extremely important, and it’s the right thing to do. I’m all for it. Black Lives Matter is important. I think our players, our staff, our organization, ownership group, the NBA, the country, we wanna see change.” When Beal was asked if resuming basketball would take away from social justice he said, “”I feel like we stopped playing basketball because of COVID. We didn’t stop playing because of social justice. And I feel like we can still raise that awareness.” He further shined a light on how basketball could be used as a viable platform to attract attention to social justice like utilizing the names on the back of player jerseys to actively staying involved with local officials, lawmakers, politicians, “…we have to utilize our platform as athletes to speak out for those unheard, to be vocal, to show face, to evolve. I think we’re able to do both…”

There’s no question that players, coaches, and staff are all trying their best to move forward in the safest way to continue basketball, but also not to lose light on everything important happening off the court. The Washington Wizards organization as a whole seems to be confident in what they’ll have to offer in the Orlando bubble and hope to continue social justice awareness as a team.

Michael Jordan Signed off on Doc, Thanks to LeBron, Iverson and Silver

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne says there were three main factors in getting NBA legend Michael Jordan to sign off on The Last Dance documentary that included Adam Silver, LeBron James and Allen Iverson.

Before he became NBA commissioner, Adam Silver was the head of NBA Entertainment in the 1990s and convinced the league of the importance of filming Jordan’s last season in the league.  He also promised Jordan that he would have total control of any documentary that came out in the future.

Then there’s the LeBron James factor; Jordan gave the “okay” to use the footage on the same day LeBron and the Cavaliers were celebrating their 2016 championship with a parade through Cleveland.  Was this a coincidence or did Jordan feel a little healthy rivalry?

The third factor that led to the documentary was Iverson, the documentary about NBA star Allen Iverson.  Jordan loved the documentary so much that he cried.  Once he realized that the same documentary-maker wanted to make The Last Dance, Jordan agreed to the doc.

Kelly Rowland Returns With Her Sexy New Single, “Coffee” [WATCH]

Kelly Rowland is back and is celebrating herself, her blackness and her skin!

The forever beauty stars in the new video for “Coffee” where she and her girls not only enjoy a tropical paradise but all various shades of brown. That and a very, very clear reason why she and Miguel have similar views when it comes to coffee – morning sex. “Breakfast in bed, got me moanin’/ Before you go to work/ I need you to go to work.”

As far as her inspiration for celebrating all shades of brown black women in the video, Rowland told ESSENCE, “I want to celebrate the women in video — every shade, every coffee color, every curve, every essence and what they gave me.  My intention I set for the video was to take the light in yourself and your sexuality [and put it in] a God perspective, in a way where you don’t have to get any approval from anybody else.”

She added, “I just wanted the video to come across like, ‘Here we are standing in all of our beauty, in all of our coffee colored shades, in all of our greatness and you going to take this in.’ And that’s what I wanted and that’s what I want every woman to feel like. So that was my intention, and to be honest, I was hungry for too much of that video.”

Philadelphia Eagles Land Cornerback Darius Slay From The Detriot Lions

The Philadelphia Eagles have been silent thus far in free agency . We spoke to soon, this morning our birds made a hug splash by acquiring Cornerback Darius Slay from the Detriot Lions for a third-round pick & a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This move follows up after the Eagles let veteran leader Malcolm Jenkins walk and resign Jalen Mills to move him to the Safety position. Slay is exactly what the Eagles secondary have been lacking since getting rid of Asante Samuel in 2012.

The next plan of action the fans want is to lock in All-Pro Defensive Tackle Fletcher Cox to a long term deal. After we do that we will be a force to be recon with, on defense… On the other side of the ball we have a bit more polishing to do.
