NBA legend Allen Iverson will RETURN to the Big3 league after a rocky 2017 season.

Iverson — who was a player coach last season — was in the BIG3 dog house after no-showing for a game without a reason. He was suspended 1 game.

It seemed his future with the league may have been in doubt when he was no show for a game without a reason. He was suspended 1 game.

TMZ claims that one  of Iverson’s issues is gambling. He was spotted out in a casino in almost every city he traveled to during the BIG3 season.

15 NBA Players Who Took Their Hardwood Talents To The Booth

The saying goes, rappers want to ball, athletes want to rap, but unfortunately the abilities from the hardwood didn’t carry over to the booth for many of those that tried.

Take a look at 15 current and former NBA superstars that tried to take their talents to the studio.

Lebron James – F*ckwithmeyouknowigotit

Source: FREDERIC J. BROWN / Getty

Lebron tries to get his Hov on in his only freestyle video released. This isn’t as bad as some of the others, but still probably should have kept this for his own ears. He probably won’t be crowned King of the microphone anytime soon.

Kobe Bryant Ft. Tyra Banks – K.O.B.E

Utah Jazz v Los Angeles Lakers, Game 2

Source: Lisa Blumenfeld / Getty

Kobe was really feeling himself with this record, appropriately titled K.O.B.E. But again who wouldn’t? He took Brandy to his senior prom, and a few weeks later was the future of the Lakers, so we get it, but again, this would of been better to keep on his and Tyra Banks iPod.

Shaquille O’Neal – I Got Skillz

Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant (L) talks to teamma

Believe it or not, this song was a big hit on the Billboard charts at the time, and the album ended up going platinum, yes a million copies were sold. You know how many artists never accomplish that? Shaq really took advantage of his bigger than life character and cashed in. But believe it or not Shaq definitely has some flow compared to a lot of the other athletes.

Kevin Durant – Worried About Tomorrow

Milwaukee Bucks v Oklahoma City Thunder

Kevin Durant seems to just rap as a hobby, and isn’t terrible. But it seems that he hops on tracks with his artist that he signed, to help give the song some more shine being he’s KD. Can’t get mad at that.

Ron Artest a.k.a Metta WorldPeace – Champions

New York Knicks v Los Angeles Lakers

Source: Victor Decolongon / Getty

Metta WorldPeace, aka Ron Artest, always had hip-hop in his blood since he grew up in NYC in its height of hip-hop dominance. And after winning his first championship with the Lakers, he let the world know through his song that he is the Champion!

Stephen Jackson – America Da Beautiful ft. Scarface

Utah Jazz v Los Angeles Clippers

Source: Lisa Blumenfeld / Getty

Stephen Jackson retired from the hardwood and now lives in the booth. Unlike a lot of the one hitter rapper/ballers, he does it full time for a living now and goes by Stak5 and has collaborated with some big emcees from the south, including the track below with Scarface. His bars and concept behind this song are as real as it gets, but still needs to work on that voice complexion. He even called out his former owner Donald Sterling, for obvious reasons.

Steve Francis – Finer Things

Orlando Magic Steve Francis against Houston Rockets David Wesley

Steve Francis was once a NBA star, then just disappeared from the league. Last we heard from Stevie Franchise, he was Drunk In Love at the club, and getting his chain snatched on stage in Houston. He sure seems to know how to get caught up in the “hip-hop drama”, just not so much on actually making quality hip-hop music.

Lou Williams ft. Meek Mill – I Want It All

lou williams

6th man like Lou Will. After being name dropped heavy on Drake’s new song 6th Man, (and actually won 6th man of the year in the NBA in 2015). Lou has already been a “veteran” in this rap game. While playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Lou Williams linked up with Philly’s own Meek Mill for a few collabs.

Tony Parker ft. Fabolous – Top Of The Game

Source: FREDERIC J. BROWN / Getty

I bet a lot of you had no idea about this, because we didn’t. Back in the mid 2000’s Tony Parker took a try in the hip-hop game. His biggest song we could find featured Fabolous, but since TP rapped in French, we can’t tell you if the lyrics were any good, but those clothes, bring back some throwback memories!

Allen Iverson – 40 Barz

Milwaukee Bucks v Philadelphia 76ers

Source: Ezra Shaw / Getty

A.I. was the king of the NBA at the time he released his rap debut. He kept it all the way streets unlike some other athletes, and to hip-hop fans, the content was nothing new, but to many media members it totally caught them off guard, and created quite the controversy in the media.

Iman Shumpert – The Offs

BET Hip Hop Awards 2014 Red Carpet Presented By Sprite

Iman Shumpert is the reason for this whole post. He does have a few other songs out, and the concept behind a playoff anthem for his team is there. Kind of has a 3-stacks type of feel, in a way.

Chris Webber ft. Kurupt – Gangsta, Gangsta

NBA Playoffs: Pistons Beat Bulls 81-74

Chris Webber has been a major name in basketball since his freshman year at Michigan. His hip-hop career never really equated to that. Should of called a timeout before the beat dropped.

Joe Smith aka Joe Beast – The Beginning

Remember Joe Smith, the once first overall pick? Well he is now a full time rapper named Joe Beast. Enough said.

Cedric Ceballos Ft Warren G – Flow On

Cedric Ceballos

Cedric Ceballos, remember that name? Well back in the day he linked up with West Coast legend Warren G and made himself his own West Coast record.

Delonte West – KFC Freestyle

Delonte West and his cousin got their freestyle on for 5 minutes while waited for some chicken at KFC drive through. This by far, takes the cake with ballers thinking their rappers. “He got that KFC hookup.”

Wow: Allen Iverson Nearly Tears Up Talking About His Wife During Hall Of Fame Speech

When you think of Philadelphia sports in the last 20 years, what athlete comes to mind? “The Answer,” Allen Iverson. The 6’0” guard from Newport News, Virginia was drafted as the #1 selection by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1996 NBA Draft. Iverson, with his Hip-Hop style and his trademark “crossover” was able to set the NBA on fire on his way to setting numerous Rookie Records and winning the Schick Rookie of the Year award.

In the 2000-2001 NBA season, Iverson who was awarded League MVP, averaged a career high 31.1 points per game as he led his 76ers team to their first NBA Finals appearance since winning it all in 1983. What a year 2001 was, not only sports fans here in Philly, but for people all across the globe, as they were able to see and learn what we in Philly already knew; Allen Iverson was a true sports hero. Despite his size, he played with tenacity, determination, and had a will that put him in a league of his own. The little guy, Iverson, was never the tallest or the strongest guy on the floor, but if we were weighing hearts his would tip the scale.

After an illustrious NBA career, Allen Iverson, was inducted into the National Basketball Association Hall of Fame. Iverson is pound for pound “the greatest player” in NBA History.

Allen Iverson gave an emotional speech at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday. The Answer thanked everyone from his wife Tawanna and their four kids, to his favorite musicians: Tupac, Biggie, Jadakiss, Redman and Michael Jackson.

There were funny stories, like the first time he met Michael Jordan, and jokes about the ups and downs of his turbulent career.

But while Iverson spent a lot of time shouting out his basketball heroes, coaches and teammates, he almost teared up while thanking his wife Tawanna:

“I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for me. Not just my career. Yeah, obviously you enabled me to go to work and you took care of home, but loving me the way you do, and caring about the type of person i am and what type of person i need to be to set an example for our babies, you’re just the best to me. i love you so much. i look forward to spending two more decades with you. and i want you to be proud of yourself. i want you to walk around and understand that you are a Hall of Famer.”

Iverson is joined in the 2016 Hall Of Fame class by Shaquille O’neal and Yao Ming.

Allen Iverson Gets Emotional When Talking About His Old Teammates At Hall Of Fame Press Conference

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

NBA fashion trailblazer and legend Allen Iverson is set to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday, September 9.

With the press getting a chance to speak to him, the 41-year-old touched on the love he has for his former teammates and his coaches.

That’s the only thing that got me here is my teammates and my coaches. That’s the only reason I’m here. All those guys sacrificed their games and sacrificed different things for me to be honored like this,” he said while fighting back tears.

Iverson even showed love to his high school coaches and his fans, whom he had an emotional relationship with as well.

In an era of the button-up, Iverson had major swag. He dressed how he wanted, and accessorized with braids and showed off tattooed arms. He exuded that same confidence when he stepped onto the court. His personality was always on full display, even if it led to him getting in trouble. This would eventually lead to him being one of the greatest players to never win a ring, but people admired his fight to climb the unbearably steep mountain to NBA greatness.

Iverson’s Hall of Fame acceptance speech is sure to be just has emotional and is set to air live Friday at 6:30 p.m. on NBATV.

Hall Of Fame Day AI! 7 Ways Allen Iverson Changed The Game Forever

The Las Vegas Superstar Challenge - News Conference

Allen Iverson‘s impact on the NBA will never be forgotten. The bad boy label he received upon entering the league did nothing but fuel the fire that led him to be one of the smallest yet dominating point guards to ever touch the court. He kept the antics to a minimum but his personality was always on display, whether it be an entertaining press conference or crossing over your favorite player’s favorite player. He was the man and the answer.

To celebrate his induction into the NBA Hall of Fame, here are the ways Allen Iverson changed the game.

Ushering In The Dreaded Dress Code

Philadelphia 76ers V Sacramento Kings

In October 2005, David Stern changed the NBA’s dress code, and the new set of rules was often jokingly referred to as the “A.I. Rule.” Some thought the rules were racist or a slap in the face to the hip-hop community with XXXXL shirts, baggy jeans, Timberlands and oversized necklaces being banned. Iverson did usher in flashy dressing and soon became the scapegoat for the new rule.

The NBA’s Tattoo Wave

Did Iverson invent tattoos? Far from it. But the Philly legend shed light on the ink whenever he suited up for the 76ers. From the Chinese symbols on his neck to the full sleeves, Iverson always showed off his tattoos. Arms were mostly bare before his reign, and afterwards the tatted trend exploded. From fellow bad boy J.R. Smith getting a “Young Money” tattoo on his neck to Kenyon Martin getting lips tattooed on his neck, Iverson’s presence is still felt on the court every night.

Being A Flashy Player With A Killer Crossover

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=560 height=315 type=iframe]

Allen Iverson put the team on his back and wasn’t afraid to let you know it. That crossover on Tyronn Lue might be one the most cringeworthy yet best plays to ever happen on the hardwood. Iverson had no problem dribbling circles around his opponents to step back and drain a long-range three. Or if he felt like it, he wasn’t scared to drive into the paint and draw contact while scoring an easy lay-up. Every night he played he left it all on the court and as a 76ers fan, there’s not much more you can ask for.

Sneaker Deals

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

With the Michael Jordan reign coming to an end, many wondered which player would now have the hottest sneakers. While Reebok had previous athletes like Shaq, his line wasn’t the biggest success. But Reebok had a star on its hands with the Iverson collection. The shoes were versatile coming in high top and low top editions and embodied everything that was Iverson: sturdy and flashy. It was further proof that there was more room for more than just Nike in the athletic footwear world.

Press Conference Shenanigans

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

Practice? We’re sitting here, I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we’re in here talking about practice,” asked Iverson in one of the most entertaining post-game press conferences in sports history. The only person to rival his overall attitude with the press is Marshawn “‘Bout That Action” Lynch.

The NBA’s Obsession with Braids

Philadelphia 76ers' Allen Iverson (R) kisses his d

The early 2000s led to trend of dudes having braids, much of which can be attributed to Iverson’s rise to the top of the NBA. Not only did this lead to some of your male classmates having awkward afros for months and walking around with picks for the better part of a semester. And while it was perfectly plausible to see one of your friends getting their hair braided on a stoop (word to R. Kelly) Iverson took things a bit further when his mother braided his hair during a game while A.I. sat courtside. Who else would have the audacity to do that?

Actually Being A Good Rapper (And An Amazing Athlete)

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]

Please don’t forget that Iverson actually had bars and also don’t forget that his rap name is Jewelz. One of his best songs is “40 Bars” which has so many hot lines that it’s featured on Genius. With lyrics like “get murdered in a second in the first degree” A.I. is out to prove that he’s about that life. Iverson was definitely one of the best ball players-turned-rappers, with the exception of Kobe Bryant. Kobe comes out on top simply off of getting that Tyra Banks feature.

Allen Iverson Names His Favorite Rappers & Basketball Players Of All Time

Allen Iverson 2001 All Star Mitchell & Ness Jersey Release Party

It’s been awhile since Allen Iverson and Jadakiss have had a chance to hang out. After all, they filmed this legendary Reebok commercial over a decade ago and plenty as changed for for the retired basketball star.

While Jadakiss has layed low and remained one of the most respected rappers in the game, Iverson had a rough few years in the NBA before going to play (and dominating) in China.

The two OGs were at Mitchell & Ness’ Block Party in Philly and reminisced on their Reebok days and the shine they both brought to their respects fields. While Jadakiss sat with A.I., he took the time to ask him which are his favorite rappers and basketball players of all time. While some of Iverson’s answers are expected, there are a few arguable legends he left off and a few newbies he included.

Watch the video or read the exchange below:

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

J: I was just curious, who’s your top five basketball players?

A: Mike, Shaq … Kobe, LeBron … damn, it can be a lot of dudes … damn!

J: Who you feeling today?

A: Steph, Westbrook, Kyrie, Durant, Melo. The list goes on and on.

J: Who’s your top five artists?

A: [Jadakiss], Big, Redman, Pac … uh … damn, I gotta leave out Nas, Jay Z …3000, Tip — I like Tip — I like Jeezy … damn … Em. Man, that list can go on for days!”

Throughout the interview Jada also asks Iverson about his pioneering of the NBA culture with the induction of tattoos and braids.

Those old Reebok commercials that featured Iverson and ‘Kiss were legendary:

Earlier today before the All-Star Game in Toronto, the Hall of Fame announced its finalists for this year. Allen Iverson was selected as one of the finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame. The former guard and Sixers legend was among 14 finalists named. The 2016 Hall of Fame inductees will be announced prior to the NCAA Men’s Championship game in Houston on April 4th.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame 2016 finalists are Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Johnson, Tom Izzo, John McLendon, Eddie Sutton, Bo Ryan, Sheryl Swoopes, Robert Hughes, Muffet McGraw, Darrell Garretson, Lefty Driesell, Leita Andrews and the 1954-58 Wayland Baptist U. team.

Iverson was a nine-time all-star and perhaps the most popular Philadelphia sports figure in the last 25 years. He played with the Sixers from 1996 to 2006 and during the 2009-10 season. He also had stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies during his NBA career. Iverson briefly played for Besiktas Milangaz of the Turkish Basketball League in 2010-11.

In an effort speed up the induction process, Shaq, Yao Ming, and Allen Iverson are already eligible for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The wait was originally six years and has now been knocked down to four. “We wanted to get more in line with some of the other Halls, and it just seemed like too long of a wait for some of the individuals,” said Hall chairman Jerry Colangelo during an interview with ESPN. And now, this year’s biggest candidates retired after the 2010-11 season. They all have their own unique claim to fame, as bad boy Iverson gave the NBA much-needed swag, Big Diesel Shaq won four rings, and Yao Ming catapulted China’s scouting pool to new heights.

Aside from the NBA’s big names, Tom Izzo, head coach of the Michigan State basketball team, is also being considered. And, as women continue to dominate sports this year, WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes is eligible to be inducted as well. In her storied career, she won three MVPs and four consecutive championships with the Houston Comets.

The Hall of Fame finalists are expected to be named in February, with the induction ceremony taking place in September.

Allen Iverson Gives Emotional Speech At BET Players Awards

Allen Iverson is always going to be respected for the fire and culture he brought to the NBA during his peak years as a Sixer. His contributions again got recognized during the inaugural Players Awards, where he was awarded the Game Changer award.

More than a decade after his legendary MVP year, Iverson trades in his trademark cocksureness with humility and transparency. The great accepted the award with a touching speech.

“This award is one of the most special awards I’ve even received because it comes from [the basketball players],” Iverson says. “Ya’ll are the guys that brought everything out of me night in and night out.”
