Fantasia Admits Marrying Husband Three Weeks After Meeting Him

FOX's 'American Idol' Finale For The Farewell Season - Arrivals

When you know, you know. And clearly all signs were pointing to love for Fantasia and her husband, Kendall Taylor.

In the new issue of Billboard, the singer opens up about her rough start in the industry and how she’s grown. The 32-year-old soared to fame after winning American Idol‘s third season in 2004, and has since had a slew of No. 1 hits and a stint on Broadway’s The Color Purple.

But with the ups, came the downs, like financial loss and decaying personal relationships. It all came to a head in 2010 when she attempted suicide after breaking up with the father of her second child, Antwaun Cook.

But with the help of loved ones, self-help books and music, she came back. And quickly fell in love.

Very quickly.

As reported by Billboard:

At the same time, back home in Charlotte, she was experiencing a whirlwind romance with Taylor, 35. “Everything changed when I met him,” she says. The connection was instantaneous: Just three weeks after meeting at a local club, the pair wed in 2015. The brief courtship was intense, fulfilling —and celibate; they didn’t consummate the relationship until their wedding night, she confides. “I just knew [he was the one]. I was getting ready to go on the road, and he got on his knees and said, ‘Can I pray for you? I just want to cover for you down the road.’ In the time I’d been fasting from relationships, I asked God for someone to pray for me— someone that could cover me and my kids [Dallas, 4, and Zion, 14] and be the man of the house. That’s when I knew.” A year later, she says she’s never felt stronger.

A year later, and the couple are still together.

Watch Kanye West Kill His Audition For ‘American Idol’

If you thought your favorite rapper couldn’t get any cooler, you were wrong.

During the filming for the last season of America’s staple singing contest show, American Idol, Kanye West made his debut at the San Francisco auditions. And, it went exactly how it should’ve: awkwardly hilarious.

The Chicago native was accompanied by his very pregnant wife — during the time of the taping — Kim Kardashian West and the two jumped the line of anxious hopefuls so Kanye could get his chance to audition in front of the judges.

Ryan Seacrest, the show’s host, said of the whole experience, “We were in San Francisco, and they said, ‘We’ve got a contestant that’s just going to jump into the line,’ and up walked Kim and Kanye—Kim pregnant and Kanye enthusiastic and ready to go in there.”

Kanye — who completely surprised Idol judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. — nervously walked in the audition room and told the judges he wanted to perform “an original.”

Naturally, he performed one of his classics, “Gold Digger” and made to sure include the famous line referring to J.Lo — I think it’s safe to say she loved the live rendition.

In an interview with E! News J.Lo said, “Kanye just walked in the room, that’s all I can tell you! That’s all I know. For a minute, I was like, ‘Is that Kanye?’…Even though I’ve seen him a million times, in that setting I just didn’t expect it—but it was really funny.”

In the end, Kanye killed the performance and received the coveted golden ticket to Hollywood. Kanye can add that to his list of accomplishments.

American Idol‘s final season premieres in January, and if you can’t wait until the episode to watch the entire audition, you can check out the video up top.

What’s Happening In Hip-Pop: Kanye West Wasn’t Nervous Before ‘American Idol’ Audition & More

As we previously saw, Kanye West auditioned for American Idol, which will be featured on this upcoming season of the show.

His wife, Kim Kardashian, just revealed a teaser from the episode, and it certainly builds up all the anticipation of the audition for fans, where he performs his hit record, “Gold Digger.”

As you could have guessed, with Yeezy being Yeezy, the rapper was not the least bit nervous for his audition, considering this is the guy who performs at full festivals and filled arenas. Catch the teaser above.

It’s not often we see three oddball A-listers together, but the L.A. Lakers and OKC Thunder game brought some together.

Tyrese was spotted on the court of the arena, where he bumped into Drake, as well as veteran actor Denzel Washington. The trio hung out for a bit, took some photos, with Denzel commenting on his excitement to be hanging with both the singer and Drizzy.

Check out the epic footage of the three superstars hanging out above.

If you’re a professional football player and want to head to the movies this week, you’re in luck.

Not only can NFL players learn a lot from the new Will Smith movie, Concussion, but Sony is allowing all players to be able to see it for free.

Producers Ridley and Giannina Scott wrote in a statement, “This is a movie for the players, so we wanted to give them a chance to see it before its nationwide release and free admission during its run in theaters … The movie is so inspiring – Will Smith gives one of the best performances of his career as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a man who shined a light on the truth. The odds were stacked against him, but he had the truth on his side, and now, his discovery is all anyone’s talking about. We think the players will enjoy watching this movie about Dr. Omalu’s incredible courage – courage that changed the game.”

You might want to take advantage of this, NFL stars!

While many people are not amused by Donald Trump‘s antics, there is someone who does find his popularity intriguing.

Stephen Colbert sat down for a new interview with CBS News, where he spoke on Trump’s presidential campaign, and praised how he has become such a sensation.

The talk show host said to the interviewer, “There’s a populism to Trump that I found very appealing.”

Fortunately for those who are worried by these statements, he does still disagree with his views, stating, “The party elders would like him to go away but the people have decided that he is not going to. I may disagree with anything that he’s saying and think that his proposals are a little … well, more than a little shocking. But there is something really hopeful about the fact that, well, 36 percent of the likely voters want him so the people in the machine don’t get to say otherwise. That’s the one saving grace, I think, of his candidacy.”

What are your thoughts on Colbert’s points?

The End Of An Era: ‘American Idol’ Announces Final Season

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty

After 14 seasons of American Idol, the competition is officially over. It was announced today that America’s favorite talent show will air one more season before it goes off air. According to FOX CEO Gary Newman, “it just felt it was the right time to bring the run to a close.”

We can’t front, it’s a sad moment. We remember tuning into FOX to watch thousands of wanna-be stars line the streets of their hometown with bright eyes and big voices — the opportunity of a lifetime at their finger tips. We appreciated the singer’s who just wanted to meet the judges, the artists who longed for a break and the tone-deaf hopefuls who made Idol entertaining.

At the height of its run, (2004-2007) Idol reached approximately 37 million viewers until numbers began fading, ending at about 11 million viewers for season 13. Can’t say we didn’t see it coming. Their ploy to pit Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj against one another in season 12 failed miserably. And, there hasn’t been a successful Idol winner since Carrie Underwood in season 4. (We know what you’re thinking…but Jennifer Hudson didn’t actually win Idol.)

Season 15 of Idol will end with “a true, season-long celebration,” Newman said. Does that mean our favorite Idol Fantasia will come back? What about Rubben Studdard, are they going to dig him up? We’re almost positive Kelly Clarkson will be there (we love her too).

The end of the Idol era is upon us, but we look back with a smile on all the great moments that left us with goosebumps, in tears or chatting by the water cooler.

As for J. Lo and them, we’re sure they’ll bounce back just fine, but what about the talented people who won’t get a shot at fame otherwise?

‘American Idol’ Black Contestants Claim Racial Profiling, Sue For $25 Mill Each

american idol 10

Ten Black former “American Idol” contestants have filed a lawsuit against the show claiming they were racially and criminally profiled to boost ratings, and they want $25 million a piece, reports TMZ.

According to their attorney, ‘American Idol’ concocted a ‘cruel and inhumane’ scheme to sensationalize their arrest records even though they were never convicted of any crimes.

More importantly, allegedly the criminal pasts of White contestants were never searched.

Read more from TMZ:

The contestants — Corey Clark (Season 2), Jaered Andrews (Season 2), Jacob John Smalley (Season 2), Donnie Williams (Season 3), Terrell Brittenum (Season 5), Derrell Brittenum (Season 5), Thomas Daniels (Season 6), Akron Watson (Season 6), Ju’Not Joyner (Season 8), and Chris Golightly (Season 9).

The contestants’ lawyer claims the show used the arrest info to make his clients appear to be “violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants” … when they weren’t. In fact, none had ever even been convicted of the charges stemming from their arrests.

Worse, the lawyer claims ONLY black people were ever probed about their alleged criminal pasts … never white people.

Not only do the contestants feel they got the shaft, they claim their lives have been ruined by the show’s racist portrayals.

The 10 are suing for discrimination and other alleged misdeeds. They also want Idol to adopt new anti-racism regulations.

Reps for FOX and FremantleMedia had no comment.

Jennifer Hudson & Bruno Mars Teaming Up?!

So American Idol is on the search again not for the next super star but for the next panel of judges! Rumors have hit the internet that executives are looking into adding Jennifer Hudson and Bruno Mars as judges. Well they are both great artists so could definitely help contestants who are trying to better themselves, so we shall see!

Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey Beefing Again On American Idol

Score one for the women! Or at least women other than Nicki or Mariah. Apparently they are back at the catty foolishness at the judges table. Now, whether this is an effort on Idol’s part to get people to watch again, we’re not sure, but their season is coming to a close and it is May, which is sweeps, so anything is possible.

In case you forgot, this was how Nicki and Mariah started their stint on the show this season. Check it out!

[ione_embed src= service=kaltura width=640 height=360 type=iframe]
They learned to at least tolerate one another after a rough start to the show, but now they are back to talking over one other and behaving like a couple of middle school girls. Not so good, take a look.

[ione_embed src= service=kaltura width=640 height=360 type=iframe]
Thank goodness this season is over! Rumblings behind the scenes are saying that there is probably no way that both of these ladies will be back to judge the next season of American Idol. There have even been rumors that the show is in talks with J-Lo to bring her back for next season! How wild would that be?

Nicki took to Twitter earlier today to pick at Mariah. See some of her comments below;

It will be really good when this is all over and they can go back to pretending the other doesn’t exist! This was a bad pairing and we think A.I. knew it was going to be from the start. Good luck to all of them.

Nicki Minaj Goes To Twitter About ‘Idol’ Contestant Voting

Courtesy of SOHH Dot Com

Nicki Minaj went to her twitter page yesterday to address people that were bashing the outcome of this season’s American Idol contest, which she is one of the judges for the annual singing talent competition.

“Lol. Be mad @ AMERICA when u get sent home. The JUDGES are the ones who FOUGHT for America to get the opp to VOTE 4 U!!! #memba?,” she tweeted March 29th.

“Send the judges some flowers and a card. If Curtis didn’t get SAVED, NONE of u get saved! Best male voice of the SEASON!!!!!!!!!!! #TruthTea”

“Jennifer Hudson didn’t win!!!! Oscar winner!!! #memba??? ok. Take that exposure and let your light shine.”

Rumors are swirling that a contestant that was kicked out of the competition might have been the reason for Nicki’s rant on Twitter.  American Idol‘s current 12th season airs every Wednesday and Thursday night at 8/7c on Fox.  For more info about this story go to SOHH Dot Com:

Nine Former ‘American Idol’ Contestants Sue Show For Alleged Racism

american-idol-logo2The producers of one of America’s most popular reality TV competition shows “American Idol“ are being sued by nine former contestants for alleged racism, according to TMZ. The past performers from various seasons allege they were given the boot as part of a racist plot to boost ratings for the Fox network.

The singers hired New York attorney James H. Freeman who has reportedly submitted a letter to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), asking permission to sue “Idol” and Fox on behalf of his clients.  The nine performers who are filing the suit are  Corey Clark (Season 2), Jaered Andrews (Season 2), Donnie Williams (Season 3), Terrell Brittenum (Season 5), Derrell Brittenum (Season 5), Thomas Daniels (Season 6), Akron Watson (Season 6), Ju’Not Joyner (Season 8), and Chris Golightly (Season 9).

Watch Clark sing here:

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=420 height=315 type=iframe]
According to Freeman, his curiosity about “American Idol’s potential racist practices piqued after contestant Jermaine Jones was dropped from the show last year for allegedly concealing a criminal record and outstanding warrants from producers. The probing attorney contends that the show’s producer’s had only publicly disqualified nine people from the show and they all happened to be Black.

Watch news coverage of Jones getting dropped here:

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=560 height=315 type=iframe]
Freeman also contends that the alleged racist practices begin with the screening process, when producers are said to ask contestants if they had ever been arrested. The lawyer says the arrest question is a violation of California employment law because the contestants are applying for a job with “Idol” so to speak; therefore, the producers are legally not allowed to inquire about criminal histories.

[ione_facebook_like_box url_segment=newsoneofficial height=”260″]

The attorney says the arrest questions coupled with the criminal records obtained by private investigators are not only used to humiliate Black “Idol” contestants publicly, but are also negative devices that help create Black “destructive stereotypes.”

Watch Ju’Not Joyner perform here:

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=560 height=315 type=iframe]
The nine contestants were made out to be “violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants,” according to Freeman, who also points out that historically, “Idol” has never disqualified a White or other ethnic minority in its 11-season history.

“Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe fired back at the attorney’s allegations by stating he was “shocked” by them and also referred to the accusations as “ridiculous.”  Lythgoe contends, “We treat everybody the same… no matter the race, religion, or sex.  I think we’ve always had a fantastic share of talent from contestants both Black and White…. I don’t think I’ve ever seen racism at the show.”

And now the waiting game, Freeman will file the intended lawsuit with the courts as soon as the EEOC gives him the green light.

Sound off!

Nicki Minaj Originally Worried That “Idol” Might Make Her “Too Famous”

Before Nicki Minaj signed on as an American Idol judge, she counseled with a number of people — including Lil’ Wayne and Mike Darnell, Fox’s president of alternative programming. According to a new cover story about the show in the Hollywood Reporter, Nicki had fears that the show might make her “too famous” — which might all but further alienate her among select members of the rap community. Yes, I know she’s recorded “Super Bass” and a bunch of other Kid Bopz-approved pop songs that already did that for her, but you know, she has a right to her concerns.

Obviously, Nicki changed her mind and here’s a breakdown on why she signed on:

“I had a lot of talks with people — my family, my best friends, my label, Lil Wayne, management and then the producers,” she says. In the end, it was Darnell who helped sway her. Adds the 30-year-old: “He was so lovable and made me feel so comfortable and confident. He kept saying, ‘I promise we’re going to protect you; you’re going to love it, we’re a big family.’ “

Among Minaj’s concerns: her cred in the rap world, for one. As an artist signed to Cash Money Records — home to her mentor Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean and DJ Khaled and a label that has sold more than 78 million albums since its founding in 1991 — she points to “a judgmental culture in hip-hop,” where “sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it’s almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I’m still surprised that I decided to do it.”

Now has for that fight between she and Mariah Carey, only Mimi would discuss it:

When asked about the exchange, Carey says she has “yet to figure out” why the situation escalated as it did. “Sometimes things get heated for their own reasons,” she evades, adding, “I don’t think the panel has an issue.” Minaj flat-out refuses to discuss it.

One note about Minaj on set, though:

(But it must be said that, according to Idol staffers, Minaj has been late to the set every day.)
