The late reggae star Bob Marley smiles in this promotional photo released in 1981. Marley’s “Legend” album, a compilation of his best work, has sold at least 12 million copies worldwide since its release in 1984, three years after Marley’s untimely death from brain cancer. (AP Photo/Files)

The family of reggae legend Bob Marley will launch the first global cannabis brand that will sell marijuana products. The brand, which will be called Marley Natural, will sell products that will range from weed strains to oils and infused lotions. The products will be sold in countries and U.S. states that are working towards the legalization of pot. The new brand was inspired by Marley’s love for what he called “the herb.” “He viewed herb as something spiritual that could awaken our well-being, deepen our reflection, connect us to nature and liberate our creativity,” Cedella Marley, Bob’s daughter, said in a statement. Read more.

NBA Star Dwight Howard’s Child Abuse Case Re-opened

NFL player Adrian Peterson isn’t the only pro athlete that has been in the headlines for child abuse allegations. NBA Star Dwight Howard has come under scrutiny for allegedly physically abusing his six-year-old son. Georgia police were looking into an incident from this summer where his son was left with bruises, but the case was closed shortly after the Florida Department of Children and Families discovered no substantial injuries on the child. New reports are showing that there is evidence that the Houston Rockets center hit his son with a belt and Georgia police have decided to re-open the case. Howard’s rep believes that the mother of his child is using the child abuse allegations to collect money. “It is troubling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father, which is what is happening in this case,” the rep said in a statement. “Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect their welfare and best interests.” Read more.

African American Children Disproportionally Affected by Homelessness

According to a new report, the number of children in the U.S. who experience homelessness is on the rise. 2.5 million children, which is equivalent to one in every 30, are faced with the hardships of being homeless. African Americans account for a disproportionate number of the homeless population. The study indicates that African-Americans are three times more likely to be homeless compared to the overall population. Black children are 29 times more likely that white children to live in a shelter. Read more.

PM BUZZ: Solange & Juelz’s Adorable Dance; Wendy Williams Responds To ‘Aaliyah Movie’ Controversy & More

Solange’s Adorable Mother/Son Dance

Solange’s wonderful white wedding will go down in history as one of the most fabulous ceremonies of all time. From the trendsetting fashions, to riding off in brand new bikes, Solange changed the game and broke the internet with one swift sway of her caped gown. As expected, Solo’s big day is the talking point of most conversations at the water cooler and if you thought it was going to die down soon, you are mistaken. Solo just gave us something else to keep the chatter going.

This adorable video of Solange dancing with her son Juelz hit the net and the duo look damn cute busting moves to the official party song of the year, “No Flex Zone.”

Watch it, below:

In related news, fans accused Kris Jenner of being shady for posting the above photo of the Kardashians wearing all-white shortly after Solange broke the internet with her tasteful wedding pics.

Kris could have just been promoting her daughters’ show “Kourtney & Khloe Take The Hamptons” that aired that night. Whatever Kris’ intentions, Instagram users weren’t here for it.

One commenter wrote, “The Knowles for the WIN!!!” and another wrote, “Yall Need to take several seats!”

Well then.

5 Things We Would Love To See Happen But Probably Won’t!

lebrondunk

1. Lebron James Enter The Slam Dunk Contest

Lebron James entered the NBA in 2003 with a lot of expectations on his shoulders. Its 2014 and although “King James” has many accomplishments in the NBA, he is missing one! Lebron has never competed in the “Slam Dunk Contest”. Every year right before The All-Star Break, a video seems to “surface” of Bron Bron showing off various Slam Dunks. This year Lebron even went as far to say he’d win the Dunk Contest this year if he entered, leaving us all with the question….” Why don’t you just enter the contest?!” Michael Jordan has been in the contest. Kobe Bryant has been in the contest. Even Dwight Howard has participated! What are you waiting for Lebron?! Maybe you’re waiting so that you can hold the record for “oldest player to enter The Slam Dunk Contest.” At this point my money is on Lebron going bald before he enters The SDC!

manny-pacquiao-floyd-mayweather

2. Manny Pacquiao Vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.

These 2 great boxers were supposed to fight back in 2010 but alleged disagreements between both of their camps caused the fight not to happen! It was supposed to be the highest grossing fight in boxing history. There was word that Mayweather wanted  Pacquiao to have an Olympic style anti doping test but Pacquiao denied having a blood work test done because he said it would weaken him before the fight. Since 2010 both fighters have fought many fights but not with each other. Mayweather’s record at this point stands at 45-0, while Pacquiao’s record stands at 55-5-2! If they fight and Mayweather wins then he’ll go down as one of the greatest ever. If he loses he’ll still go down as one of the greatest ever. I think we are all pretty much over this fight happening!

dr dre detox

3. Dr. Dre release DETOX

Hip Hop legend Dr. Dre has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and counting. He has worked with every artist you can think of! Dre has sold millions upon millions of records with his 2 solo albums, The Chronic & 2001.  There has been much anticipation for a 3rd album from Dr. Dre titled Detox. There have been many release dates and confirmation from artist like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and 50 cent. Dr. Dre also has his hand in other ventures besides making his own music such as endorsements, producing for other artists, and even marketing his own line of headphones, Beats By Dre. All of which have played a part in the delay of Detox. Some of his peers in the industry say that Dre’s working ethic is none like no other and when he’s involved with other projects it takes away his motivation to record new material for the Detox album. I guess if we want to hear a full Dr. Dre album then we gotta pull out that Chronic!

4. Jay-z and Dame Dash Work Together..Again

Back in 2013 Jay & Dame reunited for a brief moment and it was great. As far as them working together again its highly unlikely. They built great history with Rocafella and made us all throw our diamonds up. Who knows what Rocafella could have been if there was never any issues between these 2.  It was nothing like seeing Dame Dash do his dance with a champagne bottle in his hand onstage at a Jay-z concert. Maybe one day we will see Jay-z perform The Dynasty: Roc La Familia live in concert at Cochella with everyone that was on the album!

 5. Another State Property Album

For those who don’t know, the group consists of Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Peedi Crakk, Oschino, Omillio Sparks, Young Chris & Neef Buck. Their 2nd album State Property Chain Gang Vol 2 can easily be considered a philly classic! Although it only sold 296,000 copies, the streets loved it! Who wouldn’t want to hear one more album or at least a mixtape from them. It’s only right! They were like a mini Wu-Tang Clan!

Which NBA Player Has An Anxiety Disorder That Keeps Him From Flying

I had to read the title a couple times as well. NBA players fly for HALF of their season. How can you have this disorder and still play?

Here is the even better part-the Sixers are considering signing this player. So who is it? Read it below

Royce-White

Yes the Sixers are considering signing former Houston Rocket Royce White. So how will they deal with his disorder?

“I don’t know what Philly’s intentions are. I’m just going to go there, work hard and try to earn my place.”

As to whether he will make the flight schedule

“One hundred flights would be like if you’re allergic to peanut butter – it’d be like spreading your whole body with it.”

In an interesting “dig” toward the Houston Rockets and Dwight Howard he says:-

“The NBA didn’t know if they wanted to allow the Rockets to pay for a bus, because it could be a salary cap infringement. When they try to get somebody like Dwight Howard — they could give him a house to say that helps his mental health.”

Bun B On Potential Dwight Howard Trade To Rockets [EXCLUSIVE]

[ione_embed src=http://player.ooyala.com/player.js?embedCode=NtM2p3YzqouJIgLun8lr0hexOo41aNBa&autoplay=1 service=ooyala width=610 height=344 type=iframe]

With the NBA draft come and gone teams have been making aggressive moves to improve their rosters via trades and free agency. One name that seems to always be in talks about movement is current Los Angeles Lakers Center Dwight Howard.

Howard was acquired by The Lakers from The Orlando Magic in four-team trade 2012 after he underwent back surgery. The hope was that joining him with Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol would be the key to a Western Conference title and an NBA championship. However, The Lakers couldn’t gel under their two coaches, Mike Brown and Mike D’Antoni and limped through the season to a 45 and 37 record. The nail in the coffin was a season ending injury to Super Star Kobe Bryant which puts his return to the court at somewhere around Christmas.

It’s pretty much a done deal that Howard will go elsewhere and the Houston Rockets have been mentioned as an ideal home for the 7-footer with players like James Harden and Jeremy Lin already on the roster.

TheUrbanDaily.com caught up with MC, professor and longtime Houston Rockets fan Bun B at Lucky Strike bowling lanes in Miami while he was lending support to DJ Irie’s 2nd Bowling Tournament. In between taking photos with the kids of the South Florida After-School All-stars he gave us his take on the possibility of D12 playing for his Rockets.

“I want him to be happy and want to come to my town,” says the diehard Houston Rockets fan and commentator. “I don’t’ want it to be a crazy trade where a player ends up in my city in a situation they don’t want to be in. If he comes I want him to come willingly. Otherwise, I know Dallas is fighting for him as well.”

Watch the video for his full thoughts on how he’d fit in with the Rockets and their future moves.

Sweet Or Shady? Former Basketball Wives Star Royce Reed Tweets Baby Daddy LA Laker Dwight Howard

Royce Reed Dwight Howard

There are lots of opinions swirling around the internets on this one! While the message seems perfectly congratulatory on the surface, the subsequent Tweets that Ms. Reed shot off, made it seem as though her intentions were in fact cruel ones. See what you think of the initial tweet in question below!

royce-reed-tweets-dwight-howard-freddy-o

royce2

The problem that many found with the first tweeted comment was the very last sentence, “Had no idea”. Well, why would you say publicly that you had NO IDEA that your baby daddy had another baby if you weren’t being even a little bit messy? That seems like something you would leave off of a public forum message no?

It was the resulting conversations she had AFTER posting her initial congratulations that drew criticism from the masses and forced Royce to address the shady accusations that were thrown at her. Take a look below!

royce5

Royce also said that the son that she shares with Dwight Howard has not seen his father since February because she would rather her son go visit his father when his father had time to see him and not just spend time with a nanny. Um..Ouch!

royce4

We don’t think it’s the most awesome of ideas to discuss such matters on Twitter with total strangers able to see what you are saying if you don’t want total strangers with no intimate knowledge of the situation commenting about the matter. If Royce doesn’t want Howard fans going for her jugular regarding comments she’s made about her ex and his current boo then she should keep her feelings out of the public view. Problem solved!

One NBA Player Wants To Quit And One Wants To Sue

So Dwight Howard and Royce Reed are back in court fighting for custody of their son. Allegedly, Dwight might be suing for full custody as a “PR” move. He has not received great press since the “Decision 2.0” with Orlando. Now that he is staying he may be looking to regain his fans back. According to BlackSportsOnline.com Dwyane Wade received positive press when he received full custody of his boys. Royce is countering that the judge in the case has a bias towards babymommas and has shown that Dwight’s lawyer endorsed the judge on his website creating a conflict of interest…messy

So allegedly Lamar Odom wants to quit….doing reality shows. Filming is causing him to play poorly. He didn’t care for his trade being filmed, their fertility issues and their move. Deets over at our friends at BlackSportsOnline.com

Dwight Howard Says Shaq Should “Get On With His Life”

It’s always interesting when recently retired players become sports commentators. With memories of the court or field still fresh in their heads, they haven’t quite developed the level of objectivity of some of their peers.

Since retiring from the NBA Shaquille O’Neal has become an analyst for TNT.  When recently asked to name the best Center in the NBA “The Diesel” bestowed that honor on Lakers big man Andrew Bynum. However, in a head-to-head match up with Orlando Magic Center Dwight Howard (the man many would consider the best center) Bynum came up short.

Howard got the best of Bynum, finishing with 21 points, 23 rebounds and one blocked shot to Bynum’s 10 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the win. For the season Howard is averaging 20 pts, 16 rebounds ad 2.3 blocks to Bynum’s 15 pts, 13 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

So what did Dwight have to say in response to Shaq?

“He’s mad about ‘Superman,'” Howard said referring to his Slam Dunk contest routine from 2008. “I didn’t know he made it up. I didn’t know Superman came from Shaquille O’Neal.”

Superman was one of several nicknames Shaquille O’Neal used during his career, flaunting a Kryptonian “S” tattoo on his bicep. But Howard doesn’t care.

“I would suggest he’d just sit down and get on with his life,” Dwight added. “He don’t play no more, so what’s the point of talking trash? It’s not like we’re wrestlers and we get to battle it out. Who cares?”

Are The Lakers Going After Dwight Howard And Chris Paul?

With the NBA season back in effect, teams are turning their attention to revamping their rosters for title contention. After getting swept in the playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks, it was clear some changes would be made by the Los Angeles Lakers front office. But no one imagined they’d go in this hard.

72 Hours in Los Angeles

Sources close to the Lakers are telling ESPN that the front office is making moves to acquire All-Stars Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. ESPN’s Chris Broussard feels that with high caliber players like Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom on their current roster The Lakers do have the means to pull off the blockbuster trade.

What do you think? Are these super teams good for basketball?

Will L.A. Lakers “Blow Up” the Team? Top 5 Predictions Going Into The Offseason

The two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers bowed out of the 2011 NBA Playoffs and their run at a three peat in stunningly embarrassing fashion: a 122-86 shellacking to the Dallas Mavericks. The beatdown completed a 4-game sweep, the first ever Phil Jackson-coached team to get the broom.

Never mind the fact that the Lakers failed to play any defense beyond the 3-point line, allowing the Mavericks to hit 20 3’s tying a playoff record, LaMar Odom and Andrew Bynum decided to play like bush-leaguers as the game was winding down. Bynum’s foul was most egregious because he made no attempt on the ball and did not plan to, and it was against a player half his size in JJ Barea who was in mid-air and could have been seriously hurt the way he crashed to the court. To add insult to the punk move, Barea still made the shot he was attempting.

Bynum, who spoke out earlier in the series about trust issues amongst his fellow teammates (mainly the lack of help when Bynum leaves the man he is guarding to assist on the pick and roll), made no apologies for the foul afterward. While he was clearly frustrated, anger is never an excuse for trying to intentionally hurt another player. That behavior is not what Phil Jackson’s teams are about and not how the Lakers organization has represented themselves throughout their history. That being said, here are my predictions of what will happen to the Lakers this upcoming offseason.

5) Brian Shaw will be new Lakers head coach

Shaw is a former Lakers player who has played with Kobe Bryant and under Phil Jackson during the first title run at the turn of the century. Shaw has bided his time as an assistant under Phil for six years. Shaw was one of the front runners for the vacant Cleveland Cavaliers position before Byron Scott was hired and, most importantly, he has Kobe’s stamp of approval.

4) Kobe will demand changes going forward

While the Lakers have been blown out in elimination games before, most recently in Game 6 of the 2008 Finals against Boston, but never have players reacted in such a classless way. Kobe was visibly disgusted with Bynum’s foul on Barea and repeatedly said that fouls like that “should never happen” during his post game press conference. No one, save for Phil Jackson, is more hurt and humiliated by how the series played out. When asked about what the team needs to do in the offseason to get better, Bryant coldly said “that’s up to Mitch,”  referring to Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak. Let’s not kid ourselves. Similar to when Shaquille O’Neal was sent packing to South Beach, Kupchak and upper management of the Lakers will approach Kobe with any possible changes they will make. Kobe will have final say on everything which is not a good look for a few players to be named later.

3) Phil Jackson will not coach again

As the cameras followed Phil Jackson off of the court after his worst playoff series in 20 years as a coach, even Phil haters had to admit the NBA Finals won’t be the same without seeing Jackson in his booster seat.

Jackson, 65, definitely did not envision getting swept and embarrassed by his players as the way he would end his decorated coaching career. That gives some people reason to believe the Zen master will return to coaching, after taking a year off, to come full circle with the New York Knicks, the team he won a championship with as a player in the 1970’s. I am here to tell you this will not happen. Jackson has happened to inherit ready-made teams in his career (Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the Chicago Bulls, Kobe and Shaq on the Lakers and finally Kobe and Gasol) and while the Knicks have two superstars in Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire, Jackson’s star players played lockdown defense. Anthony and Stoudamire are not committed to defense at all and are not being held accountable for it. If Mike D’Antoni decides to stop being stubborn and hire a defensive-minded assistant coach that can whip STAT and Melo into shape on the defensive end, MAYBE Phil takes on the challenge after D’Antoni’s contract is up. Remember the last “New York” kid that said coaching the Knicks was his dream job? Larry Brown lasted one season fighting with Stephon Marbury and bolted.

2) Bynum and/or Gasol will be traded

Bynum had a bounce back season in 2010-11 showing the potential that kept the Lakers from including him in any rumored deal for Carmelo Anthony. He was the best player in the playoffs for L.A., but the other players, for whatever reason, failed to get Bynum the ball on a consistent basis. That frustration boiled over (see aforementioned foul) and may have been the final straw in a good, but injury plagued tenure in Tinseltown. The rumors swirling is that Bynum could be dealt straight up for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.

Pau Gasol will be on the move after a 2011 playoffs where he never scored his season average (18.8) in points in a single game and only reached his rebounding average (10) once. Add to that the allegation that a teammate’s wife caused his fiancee to dump him being the reason for his poor play and the “Gasoft” tag gets magnified. If the unnamed teammate happens to wear #24, Gasol will definitely be sent packing. This has shades of LeBron James last year in Cleveland letting personal issues with teammates affect his play. Gasol has to be stronger than that. He was the piece that helped Kobe get back to the top three years ago, but there is no defending quitting on the court.

1) Dwight Howard will be the center for the Lakers in 2011-2012 season

Dwight Howard’s teammates in Orlando left him hanging. Because Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson, and Gilbert Arenas, among others, forgot how to shoot , the Magic were bounced in the first round in 5 (!!) games. Howard, who scored 75 points and grabbed 35 rebounds in the first two games of that series, was justifiably upset. The Magic made the Finals in 2009, lost in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010, and took two steps back in 2011 going out in the first round. Openly speaking about the possibility of playing with Kobe, Howard has fans in Mickey’s backyard nervous. After all they loss one franchise center (Shaq) to L.A. for virtually nothing in 1996, a move which set the franchise back a few years. The aforementioned trade for Bynum would not hurt either team financially and Kobe would be getting the best pivot in the NBA. Howard has no history of injury which immediately makes him a better option than Bynum. Expect bringing Superman to L.A. to be one of those talked about moves (see #4) Lakers brass runs past Kobe.

Dwight Howard Wants His $500K From Royce Reed

NBA baller Dwight Howard is going after his baby mama Royce Reed for the $500K he won last year in court. Remember when Dwight took Royce to court for violating a gag order? Howard said he was sick of Royce bashing him to the media — a violation of their court settlement — and wants at least $500,500,000 to make things right. The judge nixed that amount and lowered it to around $500K.

NBA’s Dwight Howard Wants Royce Reed To Pay Him $500 Million

Well guess what? Royce never paid up (I mean I highly doubt she makes that much money appearing on “Basketball Wives”). According to TMZ, Howard claims Reed now owes him $551,606.74 — which includes interest. So Howard has filed papers with a California court, which could give Howard the right to go after Reed’s assets in Cali.

Baron Davis Honors Grandma With Cavs Number

The Miami Heat blew another big lead to the Orlando Magic on Thursday night (Mar 3rd). This has become a disturbing trend against teams with winning records. The recent loss dropped the Heat to 5-13 in games decided by five points or less. If you flip the wins and losses around in those close games and they would be challenging the Spurs for the NBA’s best record. Dwyane Wade, an NBA champion in 2006 with the Heat, knows how to close out a team by himself which makes me wonder why the ball isn’t in his hands with the game on the line. Miami needs to figure out who the closer will be at the end of these games.

85

number Baron Davis will wear for Cleveland Cavaliers in honor of his grandmother and the street she raised him on in Oakland, California.  Things are looking up in Cleveland for Byron Scott. According to Davis’ twitter account he is actually very excited to play for the Cavs. Who knew?

42

wins for the Chicago Bulls after beating the Orlando Magic 89-81 on Friday night (Mar. 4th) one more than their win total for each of the last two seasons. The Bulls are even in the loss column with Miami going into their showdown with the Heat on Sunday (Mar 6th). Derrick Rose has become the frontrunner for MVP of the league in my book since LeBron James can’t hit a big shot at the end of games right now.

24

lead Miami blew in 2nd half to Orlando Magic in a 99-96 loss on Thursday night (Mar 3rd).
This was a BAD loss. They followed this up by getting thrashed by SanAntonio the following night 125-95. 0-3 on current 10 game stretch against teams with winning records. They may fall to the 4th seed if this keeps up.

20

number of 3-pointers hit by Notre Dame in a 93-72 blowout of Villanova on March 1st breaking the previous team record of 19.
Ben Hansborough (above, who hit 7 of the threes) is following in the footsteps of his big brother Tyler (currently of the Indiana Pacers who starred at North Carolina).

18

straight points scored by the Magic to erase the 24 point deficit to the Heat. Orlando was hitting threes like layups. It was looking like ’09 Eastern Conference Finals versus Cleveland. Something about LeBron.

16

technical fouls for Dwight Howard which, if not rescinded, will earn him a one game supension and a $5000 fine. I find it ironic that a guy that is always smiling, joking, and acts like a big kid off of the court could lead the NBA in techs on the court. that being said, the Magic can’t afford to lose him to one game suspensions down the stretch.

11

total combined points scored in 2nd half against the Magic by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade after combining for 47 in the first half, two more than the entire Orlando team had at intermission.
The basketball seems to find LeBron with the game on the line like a fielder in baseball that has made three errors in a game. Wade needs to take charge quickly.

3

losses the New York Knicks have suffered at the hands of the 12-49 Cleveland Cavaliers in 3 meeting s this season. Stunned at the fact that Baron Davis decided to suit up for Cleveland, I have no words for blowing a 12 point lead in the 4th quarter on your homecourt to the worst team in basketball.

1

player (Brandon Davies) kicked off #3 ranked BYU basketball team for violating the school’s “Honor Code”. This is unfortunate, but the “Honor Code” has been a part of BYU for years and students who choose to go there know what to expect.

Dwight Howard Froze Royce Reed’s Bank Account & Seized Her Car?

The drama between Royce Reed and Dwight Howard isn’t over yet. Dwight has reportedly closed her bank accounts and seized her car, according to MediaTakeOut.

The reason? Well, the estranged former couple had previously signed a confidentiality agreement which, as we can all tell from watching “Basketball Wives,” prohibited Royce from ever mentioning Dwight’s name or putting their son Braylon in the limelight.

In return, she was to get $500,000 and a mansion.

However, Royce tweeting pictures of their son has sent Dwight and his legal team into action.

Royce took to her Twitter account to address these rumors, saying “whoever told [MediaTakeOut] tht has now opened the door 4 the truth 2come out Smh”
