It seems like we always crave barbecue on days where there is no one grilling in sight!

Well, those days are long gone thanks to Mike’s BBQ located on 1703 S 11th Street.

This laid back spot, only blocks away from Passyunk Ave, embodies the true essence of authentic BBQ with its pit-to-plate style restaurant, which offers straightforward grilled meat and home-made served sides.

Our personal favorites were the cornbread and Lancaster Chicken Wings.

Brisket lovers should try their smoked brisket cheesesteak made with crusted Creekstone. It is the perfect rendition to Philly’s classic sandwich!

Want to get the most out of your BBQ experience?

Round up the gang and grab a couple of cold brews to bring to the BYOB establishment for the ultimate kickback.

Owner, Mike Strauss discovered his love for the smoker after spending much of his time preparing his famous BBQ for family and friends.

Fast forward several years later, and Stauss’s small home-style restaurant continues to thrive off of the principle of family with their exceptional service and great hospitality.

Check out Millennial Christian’s review of Mike’s BBQ below in the latest episode of Picky Eats.

Wow: This Customer Was Offered Domino’s Pizza With A Side Of Drugs

As a customer awaiting your Domino’s order, you usually expect a delicious hot pizza and if you’re lucky, some great customer service. However, one Domino’s customer got a little extra with a calling card from a drug dealer.

This past Friday, February 10, an unidentified Liverpool, England Domino’s delivery person left a contact card offering a customer drugs such as, “Weed, MDMA, pills, ket raw coke & much more.”

The incident was reported to Merseyside Police and is one of many similar incidents supposedly occurring since November. Nina Arnott, a spokesperson for Domino’s, assured the public, “We have suspended the individual in question whilst we investigate this issue in conjunction with Merseyside Police.”

As drug laws continue to be in flux across various states, more conversations are being had about what should and what shouldn’t be legally sold – but, who knew someone would be so bold with their promotional strategies?

That Time Jonah Hill Accidentally Sent Drake An Email Meant For His Doctor

Celebrity Sightings In New York - June 02, 2016

This is kind of hilarious.

Funny guy Jonah Hill chopped it up with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday and left the talk show audience dying of laughter when he told a random story involving Drake.

The 6 God and War Dogs actor have no known connection, but we guess anything is possible when you’re a self-proclaimed “piece of shit” like Jonah. Telling Fallon all about his journey to lose weight, Jonah’s story hits an unexpected turn when it’s revealed he emailed his food diary to the “Pop Style” rapper instead of his doctor. Honest mistake.

“I wrote down like ‘yogurt, salad, chicken,’ whatever, and I sent it to him – and I was looking like an hour later through my sent messages and he didn’t email back. He usually just says ‘oh ok’ or something.” He continues, “It must’ve been ‘D-R’ ’cause it was ‘doctor’ – and I sent it to Drake. So like, Drake – who I don’t know well at all, I met him once – he just got an email from me that said, like, ‘yogurt, salad, chicken,’ and then it said just, ‘Jonah’ at the end of it.”

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/lRSKIXpvnWA service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

We can only imagine how confused Drizzy must’ve been when he opened the message, but according to Jonah, the quick-witted lyricist wrote back, “You went from 0 to 100 calories very quick.”

Good one.

LOL: Watch A Guy Try To Steal A Rack Of Ribs In His Pants

Times are hard. So hard, a lot of people are willing to do whatever they can to feed their kids – even if it gets them caught up in highly embarrassing situations.

One guy was recently reprimanded by a supermarket authority figure after trying to steal a cart full of meats by way of his sweatpants.

The employee can be heard telling the desperate man, “This is the third or fourth time you’ve done this to me. You should’ve gone to jail.” When the thief tries to explain himself, he’s cut off with a sharp, “I don’t care, I’m sorry man. I got kids to feed too. Give me that crap now.”

At that point, the man is corned and pulls out 6-7 items from his sweatpants – all meat – and two to three of the items appeared to be racks of ribs. It’s kind of funny, but also sad to watch because he and his family are clearly hungry.

The video is above. Leave your thoughts below.

Munchie Mania? Rihanna’s Tour Rider Will Definitely Surprise You

Ever wondered where Rihanna gets her flawless figure from?

Well, it doesn’t appear to be her diet. She may have the physique of a top model, but her food regime better resembles that of a college student (at least while she’s on tour).

Revealed today during her appearance on Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show, Rih’s tour rider consists of Cheetos, Oreos, Golden Grahams cereal, Cup O’ Noodles, vodka, soda, red and white wine, and Frappuccinos. Yes, you read that correctly.

While on The Ellen Show, RiRi defended her choice of foods, saying:

“I just like to be prepared,” Rihanna explained. “You never know what mood you’re going to be in.”

And when it comes to Cheetos, they appear to be more of a necessity than an option. Because, duh:

“I don’t eat the Oreos that much…Golden Grahams I haven’t eaten in two years, but Hot Cheetos definitely happening, regular Cheetos when I’m tired of the Hot Cheetos, crunchy always [for texture].”

Rihanna, we love you, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t hating just a little. If only we could all eat this way and still look fierce.

Cut It Out: 5 Unhealthy Habits To ‘Backspace Boop Delete’ From Your Daily Life

Woman Making Diet Choices

Source: mother image / Getty

So many unhealthy habits creep into our lives and stay there far longer than they should! From not always eating right to having bad sleeping cycles, there are little things we do each day that are preventing us from living a truly healthy life. We all know the devil is in the details so take some time to examine your day and see where you may have slipped up.

MUST READ: 4 Reasons Adding Vinegar To Your Food Will Save Your Life

Here are a few you might have missed that need to be cut out of your life stat!

1. Eating without thinking.

Food can be our downfall if we don’t put it its proper place. There are many problems with food production that we face in America currently. And sometimes it feels like we have to choose between paying an arm and a leg for food or buying cheap, unhealthy food. Balance is hard to find. And in our daily consumption, this is true too. It’s easy to eat when you’re bored, sad, lonely, etc. But food is a good thing and like all good things, it must be treated with respect. Think about your food and enjoy it, but do not abuse it or be mindless about it.

2. Being a couch potato.

Everyone is busy, so let’s just get that out the way because that’s often the excuse for not making time for physical activity. No one is saying you have to be a body builder or become a marathon runner, but little changes to your life can make a difference. From taking a brisk walk for twenty minutes to doing some simple stretches. The best and easiest way to get into working out, is to find an activity you love. Give everything a chance from running to cycling to swimming to dance. Your body will thank you not only now but in your later years.

3. Not drinking enough water.

Put down the sugary substitutes and even the snacks ever so often, and grab the earth’s natural drink once in a while. It should become common knowledge that most of the time when we think we’re hungry between meals, our bodies are actually longing for water. Apart from the necessity of water to the body, from clear skin to helping your digestive system, drinking water should be another daily deliberate activity to incorporate into your life.

4. Spending too much time plugged-in.

One of the best decisions I made last year was to delete most social media apps from my phone. I only kept Instagram cause the app is the main use. Apart from spending way less time on my phone in general, when I do use my phone during “passive” times, I do more productive things on my phone – like reading, or making lists or attending to my calendar. Apart from cutting out the clutter out of your mind, you often find that you are a lot more focused on you and what you’re doing rather than what everyone else is doing when you plug out as much as you can.

5. Not getting enough sleep.

This is my personal Achilles Heel, and I have been working on it forever. I am one of those weird people who is both a night owl and an early bird. But whether it’s my DNA or I’ve trained my body or brain to become like this, I tend to get chronically tired for a period of time in the afternoon. Being tired is like being hungry to me–I become quite moody. Sleep is good for our bodies, brains and our mental and emotional health. Rest up and if you live that work from home life as I do, take that nap in the middle of the day if you must.

So This Happened: Customer Finds Printed Letters On Her Chicken At Popeyes

A customer at a Chicago Popeyes restaurant was the unfortunate consumer to find what looks to be printed lettering on her Popeyes chicken meal, and appears to be in ink.

According to the female customer’s Twitter, she tweeted a photo of the tained chicken piece and wrote:

“NEVER GOING BACK TO THE POPEYES ON 95th & Vincennces. THERE ARE WORDS PRINTED ON MY CHICKEN. WORDS. BRUHHHH.”

The official Twitter account for Popeyes read to the tweet from the woman, and sent back a response:

“@zoerakaya_ Very sorry to see this. Please share with our team at http://popeyes.com/contact so we can look into this store.”

The account told the customer to contact the Cajun Hospitality Program, which helps to solve issues in particular chain stores.

So far, there’s no details as to whether this has been an ongoing issue with Popeyes, or its food, but we will keep you posted for any updates.

Lunch On Fleek: Thai Salmon Collard Green Wraps

If you only eat collard greens cooked with ham hocks and hot sauce, then you’re missing out ladies. These sturdy leafy greens are not only packed with vitamin E, they’re also loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and protein. So when you invite salmon to the party (which P.S. has all those same power nutrients too) the flavor is out of this world. Skip the tortilla this time and let’s make wraps with collard greens.

Easy Thai Peanut Sauce

Make this first, so the ingredients can sit and mingle for a bit.

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoon peanut butter (I use chunky since I’m nuts…ha pun intended)

1 1/2 teaspoons of soy sauce (low sodium please)

2 tablespoons of water

1 drop of hot sauce (that makes it mild, add another drop if you like it hot)

Directions:

Mix all the above together. Easy peasy.

Thai Salmon Collard Green Wraps

Ingredients:

2 large collard green leaves

4 oz of cooked salmon (you can bake it the night before)

2 oz of sliced carrots

2 oz of sliced cucumbers

2 oz of sliced red peppers

Directions:

This will literally take you 5 mins beauties. Cut the stems off of the two collard green leaves – now you will have four halves. Layer two of them slightly over each other, spread half of your peanut sauce along the bottom and then layer half of the remaining ingredients in this order: cucumber, salmon, carrots and peppers (it helps it roll up nicely).

Repeat with the other two collard green halves and wrap both in plastic wrap (so they don’t roll out on you ha). See – told you it was easy. Have a handful of grapes as dessert and call it lunch!

Peanut Butter Jelly Smoothie Source: Robbie Ann Darby / http://www.RADexperience.com/caption

RAD Smoothie: Peanut Butter Jelly Time

Turn your favorite childhood sandwich into a protein packed post workout smoothie. It’s peanut butter jelly time!

Ingredients:

1 cup of Original Blue Diamond Almond Breeze

1 Tablespoon of peanut butter (chunky again for me)

3/4 cup of frozen strawberries (you can use fresh too, but the frozen ones will make your smoothie thicker)

4 oz plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1 scoop soy protein powder (optional…there’s already tons of protein in here so feel free to skip it or up the ante and add it)

Directions:

Blend all the above until smooth and enjoy!

Can we count on you to pack your lunch at least once for four weeks?!

4 Reasons Adding Vinegar To Your Food Will Save Your Life

Vinegar

Source: Maximilian Stock Ltd. / Getty

I know your homegirl has been downing apple cider vinegar to help her lose weight, but while that benefit is not scientifically proven, there are several health benefits in including more vinegar in your diet. So bring back your Granny’s favorite cleaning ingredient and clean up your health instead.

MUST READ: Get It Crackin’: 5 Reasons Why Eggs Are Good For You, Yes You Read That Right!

1. Drop It Down Low Blood Sugar

While the effect vinegar has on weight loss and weight management is subtle, it does appear to help with diabetes and blood sugar control. Vinegar blocks some of the digestion of starch, (not all of it) so it may be able to inactivate some of the digestive enzymes that break the carbohydrates from food into sugar. So people with type 2 diabetes rejoice. By slowing the sugar absorption process, your insulin-resistant body now has more time to pull sugar out of the blood, therefore preventing the blood sugar level from rising so high.

2. Vinegar & Calcium Are Besties

If there is one thing that vinegar is high in it’s acetic acid. What is acetic acid? Well like other acids, acetic acid can increase the body’s absorption of important minerals from the foods we eat. If you are lactose intolerant and must get your calcium needs from non dairy sources such as dark leafy greens, (which P.S. are also good sources of calcium) a splash of vinegar can help allow your body to absorb more valuable calcium. This is great since leafy greens tend to contain compounds that inhibit calcium absorption. A side of balsamic vinegar dressing coming right up.

3. Peace Out Unhealthy Fats & Sodium

So while you may be tempted to drink vinegar straight after reading this–don’t. Again it is super acidic, so if you throw it back like shots it could harm your tooth enamel and your esophagus. However, do feel free to dilute in with 1 to 2 tablespoons in a big glass of water–that’s if you want to sip it.

I rather cook with it and drizzle it on my salads, which totally still counts since vinegar is full of flavor and not calories. In fact using vinegar as a base to salad dressings, as a sandwich booster, or even when cooking  you can also reduce the amount of salt your food needs. Hello healthy flavor booster. Vinegar contains only 25 calories in half a cup–a serving size you will never use (scroll up).

4. Freshen Up Your Produce

Speaking of your produce, the last fun and easy way to use vinegar in your diet is to prep your fruit and vegetables with it. Nowadays eating fruits and vegetables may lead to an unhealthy consumption of pesticide and other farm-chemical residues (womp), however vinegar and water combined can make a pretty dope produce wash. So get rid of harmful bacteria and mix a solution of 10 percent vinegar to 90 percent water. You can either let your produce soak briefly (be sure to rinse before consuming) or you can put your solution in a spay bottle and spritz things down pre-meal time. Oh and don’t use this on fragile fruits like berries. They are too porous and trust me, the flavor will be altered.

Change your diet, change your life!

Bacon Mac and Tomatoes (B.M.T.)

Béchamel Mornay Sauce

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons unsalted butter or oil

3 tablespoons flour

1 cup milk, warmed

2 cups heavy cream, warmed

2 cups smoked gouda, grated

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated

ground white pepper

Directions:

1. Heat the butter or oil in a saucepan over medium heat. When the butter melts and starts to foam, add the flour. Whisk until the flour smells nutty, about 3-5 minutes.

2. Combine milk and cream. Add the milk mixture about 1/2 cup at a time, stirring constantly and allowing the milk to thicken before adding more.

3. Allow the mixture to simmer until it will coat the back of a spoon. This is the béchamel.

4. To make a mornay sauce, remove from heat and add the cheese and nutmeg. Season to taste with salt and white pepper.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients:

Canola oil

1/3 cup flour

2 eggs

splash of milk

1/3 cup panko bread crumbs

1/3 cup cornmeal

1 tablespoons blackening seasoning

1 green tomato, medium diced

Directions:

1. Place about 2 inches of canola oil in a heavy large sauce pan, and then preheat oil to 350 degrees.

2. Place flour in a shallow dish.

3. Place eggs and milk in a large bowl, and mix well together.

4. Place panko bread crumbs and cornmeal in a shallow dish, and mix with blackening seasoning.

5. Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper to taste.

6. Dredge tomatoes in flour and pat off loose flour, then dip in the egg mixture and allow any excess egg to drip off, and then finally dredge into the panko bread crumbs mixture until well coated with bread crumbs. Repeat until all tomatoes are coated.

7. Place tomatoes in hot canola oil in batches, and fry until golden brown on all sides.

8. Drain fried tomatoes on paper towels.

Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients:

1 pound macaroni pasta, cooked

4 slices bacon, diced

1 cup panko bread crumbs, toasted

Directions:

1. Place bacon in a medium sauté pan. Cook bacon over medium-low heat until crispy and all fat has rendered out. Remove from heat, and stir in panko.

2. Preheat oven broiler.

3. Place pasta in a large bowl.

4. Add the mornay sauce to the pasta, and stir to combine.

5. Place pasta mixture into desired serving dishes and top with the bread crumbs.

6. Place macaroni and cheese under the broiler, and cook until bread crumbs turn golden brown.

7. Remove from oven and top with bacon and fried green tomato croutons.
