Pregnant Girlfriend Pours Boiling Water On College Football Player Boyfriend

Florida International University tight end Jonnu Smith’s football season has ended early thanks to his pregnant girlfriend pouring boiling water all over him.

It all started when Smith and Mary Gaspar, who was five months pregnant, argued over how much attention he was giving her, says the Miami Herald. According to Gaspar’s official statement to the FIU police, she was “feeling extremely emotional and stressed” when she began to boil the pot of water.

Overwhelmed with emotion, she then poured the hot water on Smith and began to hit him after she felt that he didn’t react strongly enough to being burned. Smith suffered severe burns on his head, neck, back, a shoulder and an arm, but it’s unknown the extent of those burns, the newspaper wrote.

Smith has been seen back on campus, while Gaspar was charged with aggravated battery, but was later released.

Just messy.

It’s been predicted that in the 2017 NFL Draft, Smith has a chance of being a late round pick or undrafted free agent.

High School Football Player With Down Syndrome Scores Heartwarming Touchdown

A teenager with Down syndrome is a beloved member of his high school football team, even though he rarely gets a chance to hop on the turf.

Robby Heil is usually the team’s water boy at Novi High School in Michigan. But they had a surprise for him during this weekend’s game after they learned his mother has cancer. She was on the sidelines, like always, when Robbie had his big moment and rushed 20 yards to score his first-ever touchdown.

I presently have cancer and this team has just been so instrumental in helping me get him to practice while I’m at chemo and it takes a village to raise my son and this village has been really outstanding,” Debbie Heil told Fox Detroit.

Debbie recognizes how much the team has helped her and her family during this rough time.

Despite the amazing opportunity, his coach simply saw it as a way to pay him back for all the joy he brings the team.

No matter how bad a day he’s having, it’s a smile from ear to ear and the opportunity to put that helmet on tonight, it brought tears to my eyes tonight and tears all over the place,” said coach Jeff Burnside.

The opposing team was in on the surprise and even had a custom jersey made for Robby.

Novi High School would go on to win the game.

Another L: Nike Terminated Its Contract With Johnny Manziel

Cleveland Browns v Kansas City Chiefs

Johnny Manziel might be on the road to redemption, but he just lost a major endorsement deal.

Manziel was dropped by the Cleveland Browns back in March and now, Nike has also decided to end its relationship with the troubled quarterback.

Nike spokesman Brian Strong revealed to ESPN that Manziel, who was signed by the Swoosh in March of 2014 to a multi-year deal, is no longer an endorser of the brand.

This marks the sixth contract Nike has terminated in the past three years. Johnny Football joins the likes of Lance Armstrong, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Oscar Pistorius and most recently, Manny Pacquiao.

Nike called the partnership off sometime after the 2015-16 season, likely due to Johnny’s party boy ways and off-the-field legal issues.

Manziel is also currently being investigated by a grand jury and the NFL for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. The case will be presented to the jury this week and an indictment could be announced as early as Monday.

Major deals aside, Manziel’s second marketing agent, Drew Rosenhaus, quit on Tuesday. Despite the day of bad news, the 23-year-old still has hope for his future in the NFL.

I’m hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now, so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016. I also continue to be thankful to those who really know me and support me,” he said in a statement released Tuesday morning, according to USA Today.

If found guilty of assault, Manziel faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Surprise, Surprise: Johnny Manziel Released By Cleveland Browns

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30472334]

The fun is officially over for Johnny Manziel.

Surprising no one, the Cleveland Browns announced Friday afternoon that “Johnny Football” has officially been waived. His first two years at the professional level were stunted by mediocre play, as well as plenty of off-the-field incidents. After playing his heart out at Texas A&M, NFL fans were excited to see the 23-year-old continue his party boy ways and still become a force to be reckoned with at the quarterback position.

Completing a 10-week stint in rehab following his rookie season, many thought Manziel had matured a bit, but the 2015-2016 season proved not much has changed. In the 14 NFL games he’s played, he only started in 8 and won just 2. Not to mention he’s been dealing with a grand jury investigation regarding whether he assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

If Manziel can get his personal life back in order and a team is willing to pick him up, he could still prosper in the league. Stay tuned.

Peyton Manning Retires After Storied 18-Year NFL Career

Jacksonville Jaguars v Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, has finally decided to retire.

After a surprising Super Bowl 50 win against the Carolina Panthers, Peyton will ride off into the sunset. The Denver Broncos announced Sunday that the five-time NFL MVP is set to hold a news conference announcing his departure at 1 p.m. Monday.

According to ESPN, Manning called the Broncos on Saturday night to inform the organization of his decision to retire. The press conference was already scheduled for Monday, but no one knew what the QB would say.

Broncos general manager and football legend John Elway released a statement:

When you look at everything Peyton has accomplished as a player and person, it’s easy to see how fortunate we’ve been to have him on our team. Peyton was everything that we thought he was and even more — not only for the football team but in the community. I’m very thankful Peyton chose to play for the Denver Broncos, and I congratulate him on his Hall of Fame career.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke to Manning’s immense talent:

Peyton Manning’s extraordinary career was driven by his talent, an incredible work ethic, and an unwavering desire to be the best and ended so perfectly for him with a Super Bowl victory. Peyton’s competitive fire and love of the game made him a legendary player who thrilled fans for a generation. He has served as a great representative of the NFL both on the field and in his community. We are forever grateful for Peyton’s unmatched contributions to the game and know that his success will continue in the next phase of his life.”

Peyton will go down as the only quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl with two different teams.

He Speaks: Cam Newton Breaks Silence On Leaving Post-Super Bowl Press Conference & Being A “Sore Loser”

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30321368]

Cam Newton is not here for your judgment calls.

The NFL MVP didn’t stick around for a post-Super Bowl 50 press conference on Sunday after losing to the Denver Broncos, and all hell broke loose in the media. Four-time NFL champion Bill Romanowski (among others) attacked the Carolina Panthers quarterback, prompting a nationwide conversation about race and White people calling grown Black men “boy.”

After stewing for a bit, Cam has finally spoken out on his decision to only answer a few questions during a follow-up interview. Apparently, he’s the first to admit he’s a sore loser and he never plans on being good at losing – because, what winner is?

Cam states clearly:

“I’m human. I never once said that I was perfect. I never proclaimed that I was perfect. But at the end of the day, people pick and they do things of that sort – and the truth of the matter is, who are you to say that your way is right? That’s what I don’t understand. We got all these people that’s condemning and saying ‘aw man, he should’ve did this, that, and the third’ but what makes your way right? I’ve been on record to say I’m a sore loser. Who likes to lose? You show me a good loser, and I’ma show you.. a loser. I’m not here to… it’s not a popularity contest, I’m here to win football games.”

He thinks the entire situation was blown out of proportion. From ESPN:

As he was speaking, teammates stood around him, shouting “we love Cam.”

“I’ve got no more tears to cry,” Newton said. “I’ve obviously had a lot of time to think about it. I’ve seen so much blown out of proportion.

“At the end of the day, when you invest so much time and sacrifice so much and things don’t go as planned, the emotions take over. That’s what happens. As far as trying to be like this person, trying to be like that person … the truth of the matter is I’m not trying to be like this person.

“This is a great league with or without me. I am my own person. I said it since day one. I am who I am. I know what I’m capable of and I know where I’m going. I don’t have to conform to anybody else’s wants for me to do. I’m not that guy.”

The site continues:

Newton also defended himself for not diving to try to recover his fumble in the fourth quarter that eventually was recovered by the Broncos. Denver went on to score a touchdown to put the game out of reach.

He said that he would have risked injury by diving as it would have meant he would have had to twist his leg in an awkward direction.

Newton said that if he had thrown an interception and not tried to make the tackle to avoid an injury he likely would have not heard any complaints.

“We didn’t lose that game because of that fumble. I can tell you that,” he said.

The MVP speaks. What are your thoughts on what he had to say?

Johnny Manziel’s Ex Told Police He Threatened To Kill Her & Himself

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30304007]

Things just keep getting worse for Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel’s most recent brush with the law comes after he told his girlfriend Colleen Crowley, “shut up or I’ll kill us both,” during an argument in Dallas last week. According to a WFAA-TV, Crowley also claimed that Manziel forced her “into a car, hitting her, and dragging her by the hair.”

The 23-year-old, who has had a rough go at it since entering the league, said Crowley’s claims are untrue.

It didn’t happen. I’m completely stable. I’m safe and secure,” Johnny told TMZ.

The argument was supposedly about another girl and when Crowley tried to leave a Dallas hotel, Manziel restrained her and led her away. “I was crying and begged the valet, ‘Please don’t let him take me. I’m scared for my life!’ she told cops.

He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself. He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later,” she added.

According to Crowley, she began to tell Manziel that she loved him; that’s when he began laughing and allegedly said, “Shut up or I’ll kill us both.”

The fight continued in her apartment before Crowley grabbed a kitchen knife and Manziel fled on foot.

In light of these events, Manziel’s agent Erik Burkhardt has officially ended his dealings with the football player. His future with the Browns is also unclear.

Cam Newton Freestyles & Gets Clutch Advice From Michael Jordan

Houston Texans v Carolina Panthers

Is Cam Newton an amazing quarterback? Yes. Does he do an amazing dab? Yes. Is he a good rapper? No.

A day after clinching the NFC Championship with his Carolina Panthers, we’ve finally learned that this Superman’s kryptonite is rapping. In a newly unearthed video, we see a young Cam surrounded by his teammates at Blinn College spit bars like, “You’re man Boogie, in the building/ I’m real hot, to the ceiling.”

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/lbgGxaHsAXQ service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

With the rap name Killa Cam already claimed by Harlem legend Cam’ron, Newton went with the next logical option – Ace Boogie.

Cam’s rap skills have improved a bit since college, though; he also spit a freestyle on Sway’s Universe back in 2014.

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/qMz2eXbpDvQ service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

The Heisman Trophy winner also stole the show at the NFL Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot, during which he rapped over Outkast‘s “Hollywood Divorce” and Jay Z‘s “Jigga My N-gga,” featuring topical bars like “Shout out the Cleveland Browns. That boy Cam Newton is a clown.”

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/7KcAa2giW-U service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Cam should stick to football and leave the athlete-turned-rapper shtick to Kobe Bryant.

In actual football news, Newton has reportedly been getting advice from His Airness, Michael Jordan.

“Cam and Mike have formed this relationship which is really special. Mike told Troy Aikman that Cam has been asking Michael about success, and how to get to the next level. Cam also asked Jordan ‘tell me your mind-set when you have to deal with beating the bully,’” Marshall Faulk said on the NFL Network, via The Washington Post.

Whatever Mike told him must’ve worked, because the Panthers have had a stellar season and are the overwhelming favorites to win the Super Bowl.

The Jordan Crying Meme Was The Real Winner Of The NFC & AFC Championship Games

10th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Kick Off Party

If something bad happens in pop culture, the Michael Jordan crying face is here to make a joke out of it.

And the latest round of humiliation comes for the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals during Sunday night’s NFC and AFC Championship games. Tom Brady, the NFL’s golden boy, fell victim to veteran Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning down the stretch, which called for the Jordan crying face meme on him, head coach Bill Belichick, and even the Patriots’ logo. The Cardinals were no match for Dab Daddy Cam Newton‘s efficient offense, and the turnovers didn’t help either; so of course, they got the same treatment.

As per usual, one man’s distress is internet gold for the rest of us. Here are the best Michael Jordan crying face memes from the NFC and AFC Championship games.

Since the meme’s indescribable rise, no one in the Jordan family has mentioned it – until now. Jordan’s son Marcus took to Twitter to acknowledge the joke:

Buffalo Bills Make History By Hiring The NFL’s First Full-Time Female Coach

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30230232]

It’s been a long time coming, but women are slowly and surely being taken seriously as power players in sports organizations.

The Buffalo Bills made history Wednesday by hiring the first full-time head coach in the NFL. Kathryn Smith will serve as the Bills’ special teams quality control coach. Smith first served as administrative assistant to head coach Rex Ryan during his tenure with the Jets, and accompanied him to Buffalo as well.

Ryan released a statement championing Smith on her work and is confident she’ll succeed in her new role:

“Kathryn Smith has done an outstanding job in the seven years that she has worked with our staff. She certainly deserves this promotion based on her knowledge and strong commitment, just to name a couple of her outstanding qualities, and I just know she’s going to do a great job serving in the role of Quality Control-Special Teams. Kathryn has been working in a football administrative role and assisted the assistant coaches for years. She has proven that she’s ready for the next step, so I’m excited and proud for her with this opportunity. She will work with [special teams coordinator] Danny Crossman and [special teams assistant] Eric Smith involving a number of responsibilities.”

Guard Richie Incognito took to Twitter to bask in his team’s success:

This past summer, the Arizona Cardinals hired Jen Welter as an inside linebacker coach during training camp. The NBA is also making the same strides; the San Antonio Spurs hired Becky Hammon as the first full-time assistant female coach in the league.

It’s only a matter of time before we see a female head coach.

Manti Te’o Has A Real-Life Girlfriend Now…& She’s Pretty Hot

Stars of Maxwell Football Club Discussion Table

Not only is Manti Te’o‘s new girlfriend real, but she’s also pretty hot.

Te’o rose to infamy in 2013, when he lied about his girlfriend Lennay Kekua’s death and overall existence during his college football career at Notre Dame. He initially stated that his grandmother and girlfriend died in a car accident. After media outlets did some digging, they found out that it was all a hoax and Te’o was actually Catfished. Te’o has remained under the radar for much of his NFL career as a linebacker for the San Diego Chargers.

Well, the new lucky lady is Instagram socialite Jovi Nicole. She used to be a fitness body builder and according to Busted Coverage, the 27-year-old competed in the National Physique Committee in 2013.

Nicole has taken selfies while wearing Te’o’s jersey, so it’s safe to say that things are getting pretty serious.

Since the photos began to circulate around the Internet, Te’o and Nicole set their Instagram accounts to private.

The only available pics of the couple are grainy, but for Manti’s sake, let’s hope they’re not Photoshopped.

Cam Newton Earns NFL Award For Courage The Day After Angry Seahawks Fan Calls Him “Classless”

Atlanta Falcons v Carolina Panthers

Yesterday, a Seahawks fan penned an angry open letter calling Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton “classless” for throwing a 12th man flag after the team’s playoff win over Seattle. Well, that seems like very small potatoes this morning, after Cam earned the Ed Block Courage Award for his “courage on and off the field.”

The award honors a player from each NFL team who shows fortitude and is a source of inspiration to his teammates. This season, the quarterback had an NFL-leading 45 total touchdowns, including a career-high 35 passing. He is the first player in NFL history with 35 passing touchdown and 10 rushing touchdowns in a single season. He finished the year with a career-high 99.4 passer rating, the eighth best in the NFL.

His touchdown dance, “The Dab,” has also received national attention (and scrutiny). Cam, however, deserves even more attention for a tradition he started in 2011. After scoring a touchdown, Newton would give the ball to a child in the stands. Now, nearly all offensive players give their touchdown balls to children. This was most famously captured on Sunday, when running back Jonathan Stewart presented his to Isabella Bottomly. The eight-year-old’s smile lit up television screens throughout the country.

Newton’s contributions off the field are just as extraordinary. Via CBS Sports:

Newton is committed to making a positive impact in youth education, physical fitness, and health throughout the Charlotte and Atlanta communities through the Cam Newton Foundation. Since 2012, his foundation has donated more than $400,000 to public school systems, impacted more than 4,500 student-athletes through positive programming and has fed or provided help for more than 5,000 children and adults during the holiday seasons.

Sounds like the work of a real life Superman. We salute the young quarterback on his quest to the Super Bowl.

Racial Gaps in College Graduation Rates Persist

When it comes to education, racial disparities are still prevalent. According to a new study conducted by The Education Trust, White students graduate from college at higher rates than students of color. Despite the gap, the graduation rates for Black, Latino, and Native American students at four-year public schools are on the rise. Between the years 2003 and 2013, 77 percent of these schools increased the graduation rate for students that come from underrepresented backgrounds. “As access increases, stratification increases at the same time,” said Anthony Carnevale, Director of Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce. Although overall the graduation rates for students of color have increased, growth has been slower for Black students compared to Latinos and Native Americans. “We caution institutional leaders who celebrate their graduation rate gains to take a good look at their data and ask whether they are doing enough to get more African-American, Latino, and Native students to graduation and to close completion gaps,” said Kimberlee Eberle-Sudré, co-author of the study. Baller Beef: Josh Norman Thinks Odell Beckham Jr. “Shouldn’t Be On The Field” After Dangerous Headbutt

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30093657]

During Sunday afternoon’s NFL game in which the New York Giants fell to the Carolina Panthers, tensions ran high.

As Cam Newton’s squad fought to stay undefeated and Eli Manning’s gang fought for playoff contention, things got testy between Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and Panthers cornerback Josh Norman. After Beckham beat Norman deep on the Giants’ first drive, but failed to get his hands on the ball, the two engaged in several post-play arguments throughout the game.

Beckham even received a penalty for unnecessary roughness when he threw an unwarranted forearm at Norman, and later head-butted him. After the Panthers won 38-35, Norman spoke to CBS’ Steve Overmyer about his feelings towards Odell.

He expanded on these thoughts during the post-game interview, which can be viewed above, and thinks Beckham should have been ejected.

Norman also retweeted a few reactions, including Odell catching an “L,” and a bunch of feminine emojis in reaction to a Skip Bayless tweet.

While rumors swirl about what kind of suspension, if any, Beckham would get, he’s yet to respond to the controversy.
