‘Scandal’ous Halloween: Interracial Couples Dress Up As Olivia And Fitz

44th NAACP Image Awards - Show

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty

ABC’s Scandal has hit its stride this season with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) turning his world upside down for Olivia ( Kerry Washington), Olivia running to Jake (Scott Foley) because she can’t handle what she thinks she wants, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) thinking of a master plan, Mellie (Bellamy Young) grieving and scheming, the gladiators gooning and Papa Pope scheming.

#TGIT.

To show their appreciation for the show, some fans of the show took to the streets as Olivia, complete with white trench and wine glass. But it was the interracial couples who went as Olivia and Fitz that seemed to draw the most attention.

See some of the most creative ones, including ones that Washington retweeted, below:

Here’s Why Viola Davis Name-Dropped These 6 Talented Actresses During Her Emmy Speech

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Show

In her Emmy-winning speech last night, Viola Davis gave a major shout-out to the peers who made her win possible. Black actresses have supported and uplifted one another in a profession that’s almost entirely whitewashed. When Viola recognized this equally deserving women—who she’s been in competition over roles since forever— it gave rise to one of the most epic moments in Emmy history.

“And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you to the Television Academy,” she said.

The actresses Viola mentioned have been in the game forever. We’ve seen them in movies for years upon years, but thanks to the How to Get Away with Murder actress, all of America will now know their names.

Here’s a list of the talented actresses Viola name-dropped in her Emmy acceptance speech, and their most notable roles. They should be celebrated, along with all actors and actresses of color: past, present, and future.

Taraji P. Henson

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

We knew her first as Yvette, the woman who was just too relatable it hurt from Baby Boy, and the hoe with the most sincere heart you’d ever come across in Hustle & Flow, before she even stepped on the set of EmpireTaraji was in the Best Actress Emmy race last night with Viola, who ultimately took home the historic award. She’s certainly made some waves since her acting start, but nothing quite like when she played the Oscar-nominated role of Queenie, Brad Pitt’s caregiver in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Kerry Washington

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

She’s conquered the stage, film, and now television, thanks to her Shonda Rhimes-powered role as Olivia Pope on Scandal. With monster ratings, Kerry has helped break down barriers for Black women. Even though the ABC show has only been on the air for a short time, it’s helped prove that Black stories and lives shouldn’t be easily passed over.

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle has been in the acting game for too long to still be underrated. After years of playing teenagers in 7th Heaven and Bring It On, Gabby finally gets to explore all the facets that make her a powerful woman on BET’s Being Mary JaneShe shows all types of viewers week after week that a successful Black woman isn’t too off from her counterparts, and she still deserves the same amount of respect.

Halle Berry

The 2015 ESPYS - Arrivals

What don’t we know about Halle Berry, the actress who’s halfway to being an EGOT (someone who wins an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award) herself? Making history is in her DNA, as the first Black woman to take home the Best Actress statue at the Oscars in 2002. She also nabbed the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for her role as her doppelgänger, Dorothy Dandridge. One of Halle’s most notable roles happened to be her first film with director Spike Lee as Gator’s crack addict girlfriend in Jungle Fever.

Nicole Beharie

Fox's 'Sleepy Hollow' Special Screening - Arrivals

A relative newcomer compared to the other women on the list, Nicole has been at the helm of her FOX show Sleepy Hollow for three seasons now, and that’s not an easy accomplishment. Her role as Lt. Grace Abigail Mills has already gained her a few award nominations, including an NAACP Image Award. There’s no doubt we will be seeing more of Nicole Beharie.

Meagan Good

Meagan Good

The only child star on the list, Meagan Good has acted along some Hollywood heavyweights like Lynn Whitfield, Gregory Hines, Will Ferrell, and David Duchovny. But nothing quite changed the way we saw Meagan like when she played a sassy, yet coy child in 1997’s Eve’s Bayou. For a kid, she displayed such range and depth, not something we see captured in just any old actor. Still at it, Good continues breaking down more walls for Black actresses, and she’s starring in the sci-fi TV series Minority Report this fall

Apple Music Is Winning With This New Commercial Featuring Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington & Taraji P. Henson

Emmy Awards 2015 Red Carpet

Source: iOne / iOne

During the 67th Annual Emmy Awards last night (September 20), Apple premiered a new advertisement for their music streaming service, Apple Music.

The commercial, which was directed by Ava DuVernay, features Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson discussing how they used to make mixtapes but no longer need to due to Apple Music’s playlists.

The commercial ends with the slogan: “Instant Boyfriend Mixtape Service”

Winning, right? Now not only is this a dope commercial but it’s also a smart business move by the higher-ups over at Apple Music. The streaming service launched back in late June, meaning those free three-month trial periods are coming to an end and users will have to start paying $9.99 per month for the service. For those who were unsure whether to renew their subscription, this may just have helped sway their decision.

After the commercial premiered, DuVernay took to Twitter to reveal that it was the first of three new advertisements, with the remaining two scheduled to be released sometime this week.

The New & Returning TV Shows You Have To Watch This Fall

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/v_EoaMmm38I service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

It’s that magical time of year again.

No, not Christmas – but it is almost autumn, which means your favorite shows are returning to the small screen. This week, fans of the hit FOX show Empire were treated to a marathon on FX, just before the second season kicks off on Sept. 23. The season two trailer above reveals the Lyon family has built alliances to take down their head honcho, Luscious. The character, played by Terrence Howard, is going through his own troubles while locked up in jail. With all the drama ahead, fans will be glued to their couches (and Twitter timelines).

Other favorites like Scandal, black-ish, and How To Get Away With Murder are geared up for fall releases, but new shows like Rosewood (starring Morris Chestnut), and Scream Queens (Keke Palmer) will also be vying for your attention.

Check out the list of shows you should be watching out for this fall.

New Shows

Minority Report, Fox (September 21)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/_fLl-DMzxrk service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Based off Steven Spielberg’s hit film starring Tom Cruise, the show catapults into 2065 with a Pre-Cog named Dash (Stark Sands) living in the normal world, but still seeing flashes of future murders. Dash teams up with homicide detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) to help stop them before they happen.

Rosewood, Fox (September 23)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/FhhYJXV508A service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr. (Morris Chestnut) is a popular Miami pathologist, assisting the Miami PD in solving crimes. His optimistic attitude and charming demeanor is a blanket for his own personal health problems that have left him with just a decade to live.

The Carmichael Show, NBC (Wednesdays 9:30 p.m. EST)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/rWwh0ghHwcY service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Based off real life experiences from comedian Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors, Comedy Bang Bang!), the show is set in North Carolina and follows Carmichael juggling a new life with his girlfriend and close relationship with his parents (Loretta Devine and David Allen Grier). The Carmichael Show has already wrapped its first short season, but you can stream the entirety here.

Mr. Robinson, NBC (Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z4McvrP_7js service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

The story behind Mr. Robinson is close to comedian Craig Robinson‘s heart. The show follows his former career as a teacher and struggling musician. Robinson lands a job at his old high school – coincidentally where his ex-flame Victoria (Meagan Good) teaches. The comedian adds his funk background to the show by singing tunes like “Chocolate Muffins,” but also raises eyebrows by teaching his students to sing an a cappella version of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”

Scream Queens, Fox (September 22)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/-FtenR69qmk service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Wallace University has been plagued with a 20-year-old curse called “The Red Devil.” When the dean (Jamie Lee Curtis) plans to shut down Kappa sorority after a string of new murders occur at the house, sisters Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer), and the rest of their group are forced to make some changes to keep the sorority — and themselves — alive.

The Player, NBC (September 24)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/2BbaeJvSi1Q service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

The Player stars Wesley Snipes as Johnson, the brains behind an operation that places bets on crimes in Las Vegas. With the help of Alex (Philip Winchester), Johnson is determined to make sure his team takes it all in this fast-paced drama.

Returning Dramas

Scandal, ABC (September 24)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/pEi3oySVGx0 service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

How To Get Away With Murder, ABC (September 24)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/U6UboZDos-U service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Audiences found out Annalise (Viola Davis) was behind the murder of her husband’s mistress, but did she also kill Rebecca? Bonnie (Liza Weil), Frank (Charlie Weber), and the Keating Five (Wes, Connor, Michaela, Laurel, Asher) are all under suspicion this season in this twisted drama.

Law & Order: SVU, NBC (September 23)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/3FgaD7H8z38 service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) finally has happiness in the form of an adorable baby boy, but now that murder suspects know her weakness, the detective will have to fight for more than just her life in the show’s historic 17th season.

Comedies

Black-ish, ABC (September 23)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ct1G25cs1mE service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

The Johnson family is back and tackling bigger issues in a very clever manner. In the season two opener, the family will face the subject of the N-word after Jack (Miles Brown) says it during his performance of Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” at a school talent show. Andre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) are at odds over the word, and Jack is facing expulsion for “hate speech.”

Saturday Night Live, NBC (October 3)

NewsOne Top 5: Tracy Morgan To Make SNL Return, King James To Send 1K Kids To College...AND MORE

The historic show returns with bigger and better hosts like comedian Amy Schumer, Miley Cyrus, and Tracy Morgan. This will be Morgan’s first live performance since the car accident he was involved in that killed friend and comedian James McNair, and injured six others.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Comedy Central (September 28)

[ione_embed src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/EagQVJuM-K0 service=youtube width=650 height=360 type=iframe]

Trevor Noah is set to take The Daily Show in a new direction, while delivering the world’s top stories on cable’s fakest news show.

Reality Shows

Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood, VH1 (Mondays 9 p.m.)

Ray J/Princess Love

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Bravo (TBA)

Phaedra and Kandi

The most popular franchise of the series is set to return this fall, but with many cast change-ups. Kim Fields has joined the ladies, and NeNe Leakes has made her exit. Kenya Moore, Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss, Phaedra Parks, Porsha Williams, and Claudia Jordan will all return this season. Producers are currently debating whether Amiyah Scott, a transgender socialite, will also join the women.

FIRST LOOK: Will Olivia Pope Finally Settle Down with Fitz In ‘Scandal’ Season 5? [VIDEO]

OMG! Shondaland Thursday can’t get here soon enough. ABC has just supplied viewers with the first glimpse of “Scandal” season 5, and the show may be bringing back some of the steamy drama that pulled us in in the beginning!

People shipping Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant might finally get the season they’ve been waiting for. Why? Because a new promo suggests that they may finally get to be together on their terms.

He might be married. He might be a killer. But none of that seems to matter to Olivia in this clip, where they meet on The White House balcony for a private moment. The new promo “Scandal” season 5 promo features them kissing without any concern that they may be spotted. Could they officially be out of f*cks about hiding their relationship? Maybe so.

Of course we all know that things just can’t be that simple, though! We’ll have to find out how complicated things get for Olivia and Fitz when season 5 of “Scandal” premieres September 24!

Kerry Washington Posts Photo Of Herself As Anita Hill In Upcoming Film

Kerry Washington

Source: Jim Spellman/WireImage/Getty / Getty

Kerry Washington, or K. Dub, as she sometimes refers to herself, posted a photo of herself as Anita Hill to Instagram. Washington’s new role will be featured in an upcoming biopic entitled, Confirmation.

Instagram Photo

Hill was an attorney who worked for then Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas, back in the 90s, as his assistant. She alleged that he sexually harassed her. She took a lie detector test that confirmed that her allegations were truthful, but still ended up getting dragged through the mud. Meanwhile, Thomas is a SCOTUS judge, but I digress.

Washington’s co-stars in Confirmation include Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, and more. Washington is also an executive producer on the project.

VOTE: Which Celeb Had The Best Look Of The Week?

Happy Saturday beauties! It was certainly a fashionable week in Hollywood with some of my favorite celebs out and about looking fly. You guys probably know my favorite (I definitely gushed about Gabrielle Union like a madwoman this week), but I want to know your favorite. Vote below!

Black Fashionistas Were On The Scene Killing The Game Last Night: Vote For Your Fave Look

It was a fabulous night for red carpet fashion Wednesday, with some of the most beautiful sisters in Hollywood showing out at the Paley Center For Media’s Tribute To African American Achievements In Television event.

Let’s break down each look:

Kerry Washington

Source: Jim Spellman/WireImage/Getty / Getty

Kerry Washington

Ms. Olivia Pope herself was the belle of the ball last night, honored for her role on ABC’s monster hit drama, Scandal. She wore this super edgy black mesh look. I think it’s a nice change from the super girly looks she’s been going for of late, especially that pink Prada gown she wore to the Met Gala that was just … a mess. I’m not personally all that crazy about it, but it’s interesting and definitely has me excited to see what she wears next. Do you like?

Brandy

Brandy

Currently rocking her Chicago cut as she is playing Roxie Hart on Broadway, your favorite 90s diva wore this elegant black gown. It’s certainly beautiful but it falls a little flat for me, as it’s a little TOO safe for me. She is certainly looking more fit than ever though. All that dancing must be paying off!

Uzo Aduba

Uzo Aduba

I am so here for Uzo’s style of late. With Orange Is The New Black on its way back for season 3 in the next few weeks, she has been looking better than ever. She’s wearing Bibhu Mohapatra and looking so fly!

Gabrielle Union

You guys already know how much I love this Assoulin dress. We asked you earlier today if it was a “FAB OR FUG” for you, and the results seem to be a resounding Fab! I couldn’t agree more. You can see more photos of it, and cast your own vote here.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee has also been killing it on the red carpet of late, keeping things interesting with simple silhouettes with a twist or an interesting detail. This black pants set is no exception. I love the one shoulder and texture details. It’s simple and sexy. You guys were also loving her Honor NYC dress she wore at the ABC Upfronts the night before. Check that look out here.

Fix It, Judy: City Of Baltimore Hires Real-Life Olivia Pope To Save Its Image

Scandal Judy Smith Kerry Washington

Source: Michael Buckner / Staff / Getty

In the wake of the uprisings and public relations shit-show taking place in Baltimore, the city has reportedly hired “crisis consultant” Judy Smith, the woman on whose life the hit show Scandal is based.

According to CNN, the city is, understandably, desperate to change public perceptions following the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray and the ensuing clash between residents and police.

No one needs more help than Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who has enraged everyone across the board with how she has handled the situation.

MUST READ: Baltimore Teen Facing Life For Smashing Cop Car Window

Smith, on whom Kerry Washington’s ABC show character “Olivia Pope” is based, is no stranger to “fixing” how the world sees city politicians. She’s worked with former Washington Mayor Marion Barry following a drug scandal, ex-Senator Larry Craig after a sex scandal and Paula Deen when the world discovered that behind all of her cakes and treats was a healthy dose of racism.

But it may take more than Smith, who is seen as a miracle worker, to turn the image of Rawlings-Blake around. Because you know once the Black folks are mad at you, it’s pretty much a wrap.

Good luck with that, though.

The shot look a little grainy, but Kerry’s natural beauty shines through as always. “Marie Claire” probably should have pulled from the pool of pics used for her U.S. cover below. Her new issues hit stands in the UK tomorrow!

Rocking a dark brown, sleek bob and turquoise eye liner, the headline for the Scandal star is “Kerry Washington: Her Truth In Black & White.” Inside, she unleashes a bit more of her “fun side” according to editors (we finally get to hear a little tidbit about her husband and baby girl)! She still kept it forthright on where she stands in wholeheartedly supporting women’s rights and #BlackLivesMatter.

She recalled the day of Michael Brown’s funeral, which had been televised. It affected her deeply and the actress/activist even spoke on about it on the Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet:

“I was really broken that morning. Watching that funeral, I was just broken. And I take all of who I am into a room. That’s where my mind was that day. I’m not going to let anyone segment me or make me exclude parts of who I am because they may be threatening.”

Pick up your copy with Washington on the cover on March 20! We wonder how many more covers we’re going to see this beauty on!?

Child, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) hit the sauce hard on tonight’s episode of Scandal, and we can’t blame the head Gladiator. Still reeling from her kidnapping, Olivia was all locked up in her apartment armed with a gun while she tossed the wine back as if it were water.

Cyrus (Jeff Perry) called and attempted to get Olivia to head back to the White House to help Vice Presidential nominee Susan Ross get prepared for the Senate confirmation hearing. Everything seemed to be moving well when Susan went all rogue and deviated from the script. Ole’ Susan’s nerves got the best of her and she belted out a snort laugh that just went viral and made her the butt of all jokes. Liv rejected Cy’s request since she was still tormented by her ordeal.

MUST READ: ‘Scandal’ Takes On Ferguson Tragedy In An Emotional Episode That Left Us In Tears

Across town, David (Joshua Malina) received a visit from Huck’s ex-wife Kim, who filled him in about the super secret spy organization and wanted help bring them to justice.  Kim told David her husband Diego Munoz gave her the damning information. Who the devil is Diego, none other than HUCK (Guillermo Diaz)! David rushed over to OPA to fill Huck and Jake in on this mystery woman, where Jake (Scott Foley) had the bright idea to kill Diego. Huck clued them in on him being Diego and stated he’ll take care of the B613 blunder. The trio came up the idea for Huck to lie under oath so he can protect his family and the rest of the OPA-dumpling gang.

Rose (Marla Gibbs) stopped by Liv’s apartment to find her friend Lois. Liv promised she’d find her friend. Liv placed Huck and Quinn (Katie Lowes) on the case on locating Lois’s body to bring some sort of peace to Rose, who had a feeling her friend went to that deluxe apartment in the sky. As Rose pressed Liv on trying to find Lois, she discovered Rose and the late Lois were more than friends, who reunited after they were separated for 60 years.

Over at the White House, the Grant administration prepared Susan Ross to become Vice President. Abby (Darby Stanchfield) called in her bae Leo (Paul Adelstein) to help the green Susan out. Abby soon found out you can’t mix business with pleasure after Leo tried to break Susan into submission when he peppered with questions for the confirmation hearings. An irate Abby fired her man and called in the big guns: Olivia. Olivia saved the day when she helped Susan get ready for the senate showdown. Everything was fine but Democrats were miffed by Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) decision to head to war in West Angola and are determined not to confirm Susan.

Liv informed Abby, Fitz had to pull a James Brown and beg for forgiveness for his actions. An incensed Fitz let Liv, Cy and Abby know he’s the president and he doesn’t plead for anything.  Liv quickly checked Fitz’s ego and told him being indecisive about the war had Capital Hill pissed at him. Liv explained Fitz needed to eat a bit of humble pie for his actions, which is what Fitz did.  Once Liv’s work at the White House was done, she discovered Huck and Quinn found Lois’ body. A guilt-ridden Liv lied to Rose and claimed she died from a pulmonary embellish and went peacefully at a waterside park. Rose’s loss gave Liv just the push needed to get her life back in order.

Meanwhile, Huck went to David’s office with Kim in tow to lie like a politician about B613 but just couldn’t go do it when he was asked about, “the hole.” Poor Huck just broke down and moved David to tears about his trip in the hole. Later, David informed Jake he was going through with taking down B613 and will do his best to protect them all but justice needed to be served.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll portray Anita Hill in “Confirmation.” The film will center on Clarence Thomas’ 1991 Supreme Court nomination hearing, which stemmed from Anita allegations that he’d sexually harassed her when they worked together.

It’s not clear whether the story will be told from Anita’s perspective, but Susannah Grant has signed on to write the script.

Shonda Rhimes wrestled with how to use her platform to comment on the intersection of racial prejudice and police brutality on “Scandal.”

We look to “Scandal” to deliver a weekly helping of addictive story telling that takes us out of our usual daily dramas. However, Shonda took the opportunity to bring her audience back to sobering reality on Thursday as she built an entire episode around a situation just like Michael Brown’s shooting death at the hands of Ferguson cop Darren Wilson. In the “Scandal” season finale, an unarmed Black teen named Brandon Parker is gunned down by a police officer.

Eventually, Olivia does manage to encourage authorities to bring the offending officer to justice for killing Brandon. Just as he is being locked up, he basically confirms suspicion of his racist mindset.

It was a very heavy episode for the audience to process, and it had a deep impact on the cast as well. “Weeping. As if I hadn’t read it and didn’t act in it. Just weeping,” series star Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia, tweeted on Thursday night. “Everybody was VERY quiet after the table read for THIS episode.”

While justice was served on “Scandal,” Darren basically got away with Michael’s murder earlier this year when a grand jury opted not to indict him. According to Shonda, this was a particularly tough plot point to maneuver around when figuring out how to wrap up the episode and still be respectful of the real lives affected by police brutality.

“We had a great deal of debate about this ending. Whether to be hopeful or not. It was really hard,” Shonda tweeted after the episode. “In the end, we went with showing what fulfilling the dream SHOULD mean. The idea of possibility. And the despair we feel now.”
