Travis Scott Loses Super Bowl Gig Lawsuit, Jury Awards Nearly $400k

Travis Scott

Good thing Travis Scott made a lot of money during his recent Astroworld tour cause he lost a lawsuit for not appearing for an event during last year’s Super Bowl.

Entertainment event company PJAM was awarded $382,932.79 due to Travis skipping out on the event, a source says Travis missed the event due to “weather and logistics,” however, PJAM said in a statement that Travis “refused to show up at the event” hours before the show after being paid $150,000 up front and given the use of a private jet.

“The jury verdict of $383k is disappointing but far less than the seven-figure demands made by the promoters. We believe the verdict will be substantially reduced or overturned in subsequent proceedings,” said Travis’ lawyer, Howard King.

The Woman 50 Cent Punched At His Concert Is Preparing To Sue

40th Anniversary American Music Awards - Arrivals

50 Cent should probably get ready for an upcoming day in court.

Donnetta Derr, the woman that 50 punched in the chest in a viral video from his concert, is allegedly getting lawyered up to sue the rapper within the next week. She’s also taking legal action against The Lox, with who onstage with the G Unit founder at the time, and the venue, Baltimore Soundstage.

According to the video, Donnetta had griped 50’s arm when he reached out to give the crowd high-fives. After getting nearly pulled off the stage, 50 hit her with an aggressive blow. He then invited Donnetta onstage to twerk…but apparently that wasn’t enough to smooth things over. See the footage below:

Attorney Warren Brown told TMZ that Donnetta went to the hospital the next day and hired him the following Monday. Brown says 50’s conduct with his fans that night was “cowardly.”

Mathew Knowles Gets Hit With A Lawsuit By Ex-Lawyers For Allegedly Stealing $50K

Mathew Knowles is being sued by his former legal representation. The music manager and father to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles allegedly ran up a tab of $49,120.35 in lawyer fees, but refused to pay it.

From Daily Mail:

“The filing claims Knowles hired the firm (Lang Ferrer Law) to represent him and his company, Music World Properties, for an unstated legal matter. The firm alleges in the documents it claims to show proof that it followed through on its end of the deal, and provided services worth $49,120.35. However, the suit alleges Knowles was the one who then did not follow through on his obligations, and that the entire sum of money remains outstanding.”

Lang Ferrer Law claims it was Knowles’ intent to skip out on the bill all along:

“The filing claims it was a deliberate act by the music manager, and describes it as: ‘part of a ruse to secure free legal services’. Knowles is then accused of holding a secret auction over Super Bowl weekend in Houston this year, where he sold off memorabilia and other items from his time managing Beyoncé and the group, Destiny’s Child,” the site reports.

Aware of the sale, Lang Ferrer Law hoped Knowles would use the money from the auction to repay his debt:

“‘Presumably you are liquidating these items to pay debts, including the amounts due to our client,’ the letter sent to Knowles on February 3 read, before it issued a warning. ‘To the extent you may be disposing of these and other assets to avoid your debts and legal obligations, however, we will consider the sale of such items to be fraudulent transfers and will seek all available remedies for same in the event our client’s invoices are not paid as demanded.’ The letter continued on to demand ‘immediate payment’ of the nearly-$50,000 bill,” the site states.

The Game Gets Sentenced For Punching A Police Officer

The Game just received a lucky break in his legal case for punching an off-duty LAPD officer during a basketball game. TMZ reports that the rapper pled no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal threats and was sentenced to 3 years probation. Game also got hit with 120 days community service, 26 anger management classes and 180 days jail time, which was suspended.

That’s not all the Compton emcee had to account for during his day in court. Game also pled to felony grand theft for jacking a photographer’s camera while he was being served a lawsuit. He settled that case with a $100k payout to the cop.

As you may recall, Game intentionally fouled and punched an off-duty police officer playing on the opposing team during a March 2015 basketball game, and even threatened to kill the victim. The following month, when a man came to serve him legal papers, the Game grabbed and threatened the man who was filming the incident.

On the bright side, he doesn’t have to spend any time behind bars.

Kim Burrell’s Homophobic Rant Might Land Her In Court

Pharrell Performs On NBC's 'Today'

Kim Burrell ruffled a lot of feathers with her recent sermon denouncing homosexuality, which instantly prompted Ellen DeGeneres to cancel the singer’s appearance on The Ellen Show, and Pharrell Williams to publicly speak out on behalf of the LGBTQ community.

Now, Andrew Chad Caldwell, who was famously “delivert” from homosexuality, has a bone to pick with Burrell as well, as she made a reference to his viral testimony during her sermon heard ’round the world.

According to Caldwell, Burrell is due in court January 23 because he’s suing her. “I have hit you with a lawsuit!” he yells into his camera. “You are not welcome to the Church of God & Christ Convention Center. If I am anywhere in that building, 5,000 feet, 500 feet, you will be arrested,” he continues before adding, “You mention my name, I hit you with papers!”

Watch Caldwell announce the lawsuit in the clip above, plus how the gospel community is shunning Burrell here.

YG Gets Hit With A Lawsuit Over One Of His Signature Songs

Real 92.3's The Real Show

Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty

YG is known to be on top of his game when it comes to business – but for a star like him, lawsuits are inevitable.

The West Coast emcee is being sued by poet Henry Richard Russell, aka Grimmis, after allegedly failing to pay for his contributions to My Krazy Life singles “Who Do You Love?” and “Bicken Back Being Bool.” Russell, who is suing for copyright infringement and fraud, claims he’s never been paid for his poems used on the album.

Court documents state that YG promised to share revenue from the songs with Russell, Complex reports. However, Russell says he has not received any compensation despite the success of the album and the hit single “Who Do You Love?,” which wound up featuring Drake. The poet also claims he’s requested money for his work multiple times, but YG has repeatedly denied him.

Russell’s “Gladiator” poem appears in “Bicken Back Being Bool,” although he is not listed as a writer in the album credits for either track. He’s seeking unspecified damages and also names producer DJ Mustard, Def Jam, UMG, and YG’s 400 Wayz publishing company in the lawsuit.

Hopefully, everything ends up being bool.

Beyoncé Sued For Something Surprising In Her “Drunk In Love” Music Video

[ione_embed src= service=youtube width=560 height=315 type=iframe]

Beyoncé is being sued over her 2013 music video “Drunk In Love,” which stars Jay Z and his infamous Roc-A-Fella chain.

New reports say clothing designer Dwayne Walker claims to have provided the basis for the Roc record label logo, so he’s suing Bey for “impermissibly ‘prominently displaying’ the image in her video.”

Unfortunately for Walker, his initial copyright lawsuit was dismissed this past September, so we don’t see him getting any money out of Mrs. Carter.

From Billboard:

In the six-plus minute video, which has racked up 400 million views on YouTube as of press time, the logo appears briefly in her hand — it’s on Jay’s infamous Roc chain hanging around his neck — for less than a second at both 5:20 and 5:28 in the video (see below). Though it’s Jay’s chain and he’s the one seen wearing it, Beyoncé is the only one named in Walker’s suit.

As previously mentioned, this isn’t the first time Walker has sued a Carter. In 2012, he filed a $7 million suit against Jay Z, Dame Dash, Roc-A-Fella, and Universal Music Group, but a judge found that Walker waited too long to bring his copyright claim to court. Billboard continues:

This suit is the latest in Walker’s attempts to receive compensation for allegedly designing the Roc’s iconic image, which features a script “R” over a vinyl record with a champagne bottle substituting for a needle. In 2012, Walker filed a $7 million lawsuit against Jay, Dash, Roc-A-Fella and the label’s current owner, Universal Music Group, alleging breach of contract and copyright infringement over the exploitation of his work and claiming he signed a contract with Dash that entitled him to royalties. The defendants disputed the claim, saying the image was designed by an in-house Roc-A-Fella art director.

This past September, a federal judge in New York dismissed the lawsuit, saying Walker had waited too long to bring his copyright claim and that the existence of the contract — which Walker claimed he lost in 1998 — could not be definitively proved. His lawyer, Gregory Berry, said Walker planned to appeal the decision.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as more news about the suit surfaces. In the meantime, check out the “Drunk In Love” video above – it’s one of our favorites.

Kim Kardashian Threatens To Sue Rapper Nino Brown Over This Anti-Kardashian Video

Kim Kardashian has been lying low for months following her Paris robbery back in October.

The famed reality star resurfaced on Monday (sort of) to defend herself and her family name. Rapper Nino Brown sparked major beef with the Kardashian leader after posting a diss video about her and all the women in their family, claiming they are culture vultures who use Black men, then leave them.

Nino posted the vulgar video on Facebook, which has received a total of over four million hits. Kim was so upset by the video that she texted the rapper herself, writing, “Delete that video now. Who in the hell u think u are to disrespect me and my family like this. Why are you attacking us. We support you and all of your grape videos. You will be hearing from our attorney if you do not remove it now.”

The rapper, formerly signed to DJ Khaled, posted the message he received from Kim and his unapologetic response, requesting $5 million and for the Kardashian sisters to leave Black men alone.

Kim’s husband Kanye just got out of the hospital after suffering a mental breakdown earlier this month.

Another day, another Kardashian cease and desist threat.

Here’s How The DJ Who Started The “U Name It” Challenge Feels About Shirley Caesar’s Lawsuit

Shirley Caesar Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Source: Paul Archuleta / Getty

Shirley Caesar has no time for the foolery and seeks to end it at all cost.

The famous gospel singer reportedly filed a lawsuit against the DJ/creator of the viral #UNameIt challenge last week for $5 million, and now he’s speaking out. According to reports, DJ Suede said he and Pastor Caesar had a deal in place for #UNameIt almost from the beginning, and were always cool and cordial with one another. He believes someone is in her ear, urging her to sue. He claims from the beginning, his lawyers were negotiating with the “Hold My Mule” singer’s team to make sure they both fared well in the situation.

The 26-year-old Atlanta DJ told BOSSIP, “I respect Pastor Shirley’s position and there’s no beef at all with everybody. I really feel like it’s her legal team. I want this to be a good thing for the both of us.” Suede, Empire Records and a few others are included in the suit filed by the legendary songstress, who claims the DJ illegally released the song on iTunes, and his video for the song, which features a short clip of alcohol and twerking, negatively impacted her image and legacy.

However, Suede is not here for her claims, saying, “We weren’t focusing the video around any negativity. It wasn’t about twerking, liquor. It was just fun. Everybody had fun. I don’t think we tarnished or brought anything bad to her name.” As for his feelings about the lawsuit after the video’s wild success (Chris Brown released a video dancing to it, Ciara tweeted about it and it blew up), Suede says, “It’s kind of biting the hand that feeds you, but I don’t look for any handouts. I was happy to get her to another level in her life. I look forward to meeting her, giving her a hug and thanking her for what she’s done”

Only time will tell how petty the pastor really is.

Blac Chyna Reacts To The Kardashians’ Lawsuit Against Her

Celebrity Sightings In Los Angeles - April 26, 2016

Source: Bauer-Griffin / Getty

Blac Chyna became the self-proclaimed petty queen earlier this year when news broke that she was dating her baby daddy’s girlfriend’s brother, Rob Kardashian.

But apparently, her shadiness was no match for that of the Kardashian klan. Earlier this week, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe‘s companies filed a lawsuit opposing Chyna’s request to use the name “Angela Renée Kardashian” while working in entertainment and on her social media. In the lawsuit, it claims that the girls will “suffer damage including irreparable injury to their reputation and goodwill” if Chyna takes the Kardashian name. The new mom’s lawyer, Walter Mosley, spoke out about the lawsuit, saying that of the “many trademarks” he’s filed for her, “this is the first one that’s ever been opposed.”

He told PEOPLE“The Kardashians, like Angela and my other clients are very protective of our marks, I think for us this is going to be a clear case win, because it’s actually her name, it’s not a poaching. I would hope that this is just a junior lawyer’s error, who’s just responding to everything and not really looking at who it’s from or why it was filed. There’s a softer side of this where Angela has to have a conversation with her family. But until I hear otherwise, I’m just going to proceed as I normally would with a lawsuit. I have 40 days to respond.”

Mosley added that the lawsuit comes as a complete shock to both him and his client. He continued, “Everything has been fantastic between her and the family to the best of my knowledge, so this is a shock. Thus, I’m under the belief that it’s a misunderstanding. I don’t know how this plays out any other way. There’s a whole process that went on like anyone else does. So again, I’m hoping this just goes away once they see what it is. Angela, Rob and Dream are doing amazing, wonderful and things couldn’t be better.”

In other words, only time will tell if the Kardashians will allow Blac Chyna to have a seat at their table.

Desiigner Sued Over A Very Expensive Car Crash

2016 MTV Video Music Awards - Red Carpet

Source: Jeff Kravitz / Getty

Desiigner is quickly learning that Diddy‘s 1997 lyrics still ring true: Mo money, Mo problems.

The Brooklyn rapper is being sued by a luxury rental car company for allegedly crashing a 2014 Ferrari in June. Two of Desiigner’s friends were also mentioned in the suit, and according to TMZ, the friends gave the rapper permission to drive the whip, and then he crashed it in New Jersey.

The car’s valued at $220,000, but the company’s suing for more than $500K because they say they’re going to lose out on future rental money, which could be up to $1,599 per day. The company is also using an old tweet from Desiigner, in which he wrote, “If you have a luxury car you better know how to drive,” as a confession that he crashed the whip.

A rep for the rapper says, “This is the first that Desiigner or his team have heard about this lawsuit. The minute he has had a chance to consult with his attorney, his managers or his attorney will respond.”

If the charges are dropped, this wouldn’t be the first time the rapper got hit with a beam of luck. Back in September, Desiigner was arrested for drugs and a loaded gun, but the charges were dropped soon after.

Selena’s Father And Husband Are In The Middle Of An Ugly Feud

Selena Quintanilla

New reports say there’s a war brewing over the late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, more affectionately known to the world as just Selena.

According to the latest, the superstar’s father is doing everything he can to stop her husband’s production of a new TV series. The series, To Selena With Love, is based on Chris Perez‘s experience with his wife ahead of her untimely death.

Based on the court documents, it looks like Selena’s dad, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., has the upper hand.

From Billboard: “Defendant Perez expressly agreed that he would not exploit any of the Entertainment Properties in any manner or medium, including, without limitation, by way of a book, television series, movie, or any other motion picture medium.”

Billboard also adds that by producing the series, “Perez is in violation of the Estate Properties Agreement contract he signed after Selena’s death back in 1995, which states that Selena’s father ‘owns all proprietary rights in the name, voice, signature, photograph, and likeness of Selena.’”

The production company announced the impending TV show, alongside Perez, just weeks ago, the hopeful widow saying of his wife: “I spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside. To Selena With Love allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others. I am now ready to take the important step of being fully transparent and bringing my everlasting relationship to life on the screen.”

Kylie Jenner Cosmetics Might Go To Court Thanks To These Photos

Another day, another lawsuit.

Kylie Jenner may have some explaining to do, as one woman is claiming the reality star and makeup maven has been copying her Instagram photos to promote Kylie Jenner Cosmetics.

From TMZA woman named Vlada Haggerty says her Instagram is littered with photos of women striking various poses which accentuate their lips. The pics are striking … pale women with dark lips and stuff like that.

Vlada and her professional photog claim Kylie has jacked the style of the photos to hawk her wares, and they’re threatening a lawsuit. They say the pics are dead ringers for theirs.

Vlada may have an issue getting a suit to stick, however. The site continues:

Here’s the problemo … there’s a whole legal thing that ideas are not legally protected — just the images — and Kylie did her own version that may be similar, but as Freud said, “close, but no cigar.”

The Game Ordered To Pay Shocking Amount In Sexual Assault Case

BET AWARDS '14 - Radio Broadcast Center - Day 1

Source: Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty

It’s not too often you hear about The Game taking an L, but the Compton king just suffered a financial hit that’ll cost him millions.

According to TMZ, an Illinois court ruled in favor of Priscilla Rainey, who sued Game after alleging he sexually assaulted her while shooting his reality show She’s Got Game in 2015. She said Game (real name Jayceon Terrell Taylor) was “out of control” and drunk when he sexually assaulted her several times, including “forcefully reaching his hand inside her dress to rub her bare vagina and buttocks.” Last week, a court issued a judgment against him for a whopping $7.13 million.

The judge did deny Rainey access to Game’s financial records to find out his net worth (as if she couldn’t Google it). Although Priscilla Rainey originally sued for $10 million, she gets to walk away with only $3 million less. Sources say the gangster rapper/reality TV dad plans to appeal the ruling.

His defense cited that Rainey had worked as a prostitute and spent time in a mental institution in an attempt to discredit her account. Stay locked for updates.

This Is What Caused Birdman To Cancel His Deal With Lil Wayne

Will we fans ever get to hear Tha Carter 5?

Wayne has been battling Cash Money and Birdman to pay him for his work and to release his highly anticipated album. However, it looks as though Birdman is pissed with Lil Wayne and doesn’t want to do any deals with him after Wayne publicly dissed him by changing the lyrics in “I’m Me” from a Cash Money shout-out to a Jay Z shout-out.

Wayne’s spiteful shade reportedly reminded Baby of his own beef with Jay, which made Wayne’s diss sting even more. After the shout-out diss, Birdman pulled the plug on negotiations with Weezy. Now the $51 million lawsuit is even further from being solved.
