Ne-Yo Said He Would Perform At Donald Trump’s Inauguration, Then Takes It Back

'A Haunted House 2' - Los Angeles Premiere

We’ve had one of helluva week with black men flip-flopping —yes, we’re talking to you Charlemagne and Trevor Noah— so why not add Ne-Yo to the list?

While heading to security check in the of Los Angeles Airport on Thursday, the “All Because of You” singer was asked by TMZ if he would perform at President Elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration. As background, the businessman is said to be having difficulties locking in a recording artist to perform for his swearing in.

Surprise, surprise.

In response to the question Ne-Yo said, “Yea, I’ll be there.” Adding, “I wouldn’t go because I support Donald Trump. I’d go because it’s a dope party. I’d go, get the check, have a good time, and still say no to Donald Trump (lifting the middle finger).”

According to a report by The Wrap, the struggle is actually very real for Trump’s camp in trying to book someone for the big day. They’ve allegedly asked Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Elton John who have all turned down the request.

And once more, they’re even willing to shell out money to pay the artists for performance of the National Anthem— even though historically, artists do it for free (sans production costs and travel).

The Wrap reports: Donald Trump’s inaugural committee is scrambling to lock in A-list Hollywood performers for the parties celebrating him — and having a rough time booking big names, two insiders tell TheWrap. Both said that Trump inaugural committee members have contacted them in recent days offering cash or even a government appointment if they could deliver marquee names. “They are willing to pay anything,” one of the insiders told TheWrap. “They told me, ‘We’ll pay their fees.’ Most of these artists’ fees are in the six to seven figures.” The insider said the Trump negotiator also offered to pay him for delivering top talent, saying, “Name your price.” “I couldn’t do it,” the insider said. “Not even for a billion dollars.”

So clearly, one can understand why fans would be upset when Ne-Yo said he would do the event. And the upset got back to him quickly.

He responded on Instagram and Twitter Friday evening with a picture of his lip curved, captioned, “Seriously y’all? Seriously… It’s like some folks be SEARCHIN’ for a reason to hate. Lighten up. #(middle finger) Donald Trump”

Now we all know good and well, supporting or not supporting Trump is nothing to joke about. And while the 37-year-old claims it was all in just, we’re not laughing. At minimum, he could have been like Jamie Foxx and respectfully say “No”.

“Oh, I’m a pass on that one,” said Jamie Foxx when asked by TMZ about preforming for Inauguration.

Adding, “I mean.. unless they want to me… I’m a leave all that alone. That’s kind of crazy. It’s kind of crazy right now. You know what though, politics is crazy. They got everybody out here marching and sh*t. Everybody mad at each other. And they sitting down having tea and sh*t, like it’s all good. I’m like, ‘What just happened right now?’ It’s not a sticky situation. America is the greatest country in the world, man. We’ll out figure this out.”

I’ll Never Forget My First Trip To South Africa For ESSENCE Fest Durban, Here’s Why

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” took on an entirely new meaning for me after the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

That (man?) who will never be my president managed to smuggle his way into the White House and I thought I’d wake up to realize it was all a dream. But it was still true when I opened my eyes to embark upon one of the most important (and ironic) trips of my life. I’d heard the jokes the nation made about moving to Africa if Trump became president – but I was quite literally on my way to the Motherland for ESSENCE Festival Durban when he won. Needless to say, I was excited about the opportunity, but at the same time unbelievably sad for my home and uplifting my spirits seemed an impossible task. Then, I arrived in South Africa for what ended up being a trip I’ll never forget, and not just because of the timing.

The beaches in Durban were more beautiful than any beach I’d ever been to. The food was tastier, the people were friendlier, and for a girl straight out of Harlem, it was more peaceful than I ever could have imagined. It was a euphoria I could never achieve in NYC. It was a city bursting with legends of the Zulu people, a tribal Miami of sorts, where you never stopped learning about your culture. Any thoughts I had about not being able to enjoy South Africa because of Trump’s invasion of the White House slowly, but surely, subsided.

Besides the beauty of the city, ESSENCE really brought the talent out and it all culminated into a one-of-a-kind experience that I’m glad I got to enjoy first-hand.

First off, Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie came dressed to kill at all the ESSENCE Festival Durban functions. But as a longtime fan of Steve’s, what really put a smile on my face was when he hit ESSENCE’s Empowerment Stage to talk about his rise from nothing.

[anvplayer video=”4267586″]

Steve shared his keys to success with the room after shouting out the entire continent of Africa. We were so tuned in, you could hear a pin drop.

Ne-Yo was also a great source of inspiration. To see him have such a positive effect outside of America was nothing short of astounding. It seems everyone who’s anyone follows his music.

[anvplayer video=”4267570″]

After his set, he spoke to Global Grind about healing through music and more. He said of his knack for making people feel good:

“There really is no secret. It’s just positivity. There’s a lot of negativity in the world right now. There’s a lot of reasons to not smile, so I try to figure out ways to make people smile… and if that makes me, kind of the odd man out in regards to the industry, if I’m the only positive cat in the room while everybody else is negative, that just means that everybody’s looking at me. I don’t have a problem with that.”

One of my favorite moments was visiting the PheZulu Safari Park. There was tons of dancing and a tour of how the Zulu villages lived their everyday lives. We also got to see about a dozen crocodiles up close and personal.

Another memorable moment was when President Jacob Zuma and eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede honored Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s retired lead vocalist Joseph Shabalala with a certificate of appreciation. It went down at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and it was exciting to see how proud the South African concertgoers were.

One of the most rewarding experiences was visiting Inanda Seminary, a secondary school in a township near Durban. Nothing beat hanging out with Seneme (middle) and her friends, hearing about their big dreams, and learning how a few determined minds made it possible for so many South African girls to get an education. These ladies are on their way to becoming photojournalists, financial auditors, athletes, and more!

All in all, heading to South Africa and being doused in so much love was just what I needed at the moment. Regardless of what was going on back at home, I felt a kinship that reminded me nothing could break our people.

This is a trip you definitely want to make at some point in your lifetime, but before you start planning your getaway, check out a clip of Ne-Yo’s set below:

Ne-Yo’s Baby Boy Hit The Teen Choice Red Carpet & It Was The Cutest Thing Ever

Teen Choice Awards 2016 - Red Carpet

Last night’s Teen Choice Awards played host to a myriad of stars like Keke Palmer, Lamorne Morris, and Tracee Ellis Ross — but they weren’t the only famous faces in attendance.

Singer Ne-Yo brought his wife Crystal Renay Smith along for the festivities. With them was their baby boy, Shaffer Chimere Smith Jr. (Prince SJ), and he may have easily won red carpet look of the night.

Prince SJ, who was welcomed into the world on March 15, rocked a chambray onesie with fresh white sneakers. Ne-Yo wore a gray t-shirt with a blazer and his trademark fedora, while Crystal opted for a sundress.

She also took to Instagram to share some photos before and during the event.

Ne-Yo is enjoying fatherhood.

“I haven’t slept in 14 days. I’m loving every minute of it,” he told PEOPLE back in April. “He’s actually a really good baby. He doesn’t cry much, he just doesn’t seep at all. So if he’s awake I gotta be awake, so that’s how that goes.”

Ne-Yo Weighs In On Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ Controversy: ‘She’s The Epitome Of Ratchetness & Elegance’

Did you know Ne-Yo (aka The Tin Man in ‘The Wiz’) wrote one of Beyoncé‘s “Irreplaceable,” one of Bey’s most popular songs?

“…To the left, to the left…”

Well, during an interview with HuffPost Live, the singer, songwriter and producer gave his perspective on Queen Bey’s controversial Super Bowl halftime performance.

On critics holding protests and over analyzing the lyrics, Ne-Yo said, “I personally don’t think that it was all that serious. Everybody else has the right to talk about their culture and their race and be proud of it, so why can’t we? Why can’t she?”

When asked if he thought “Formation” is one of Beyoncé’s boldest proclamations of her black identity and discussed the statement she made with the song’s imagery Ne-Yo said, “I don’t know what makes this more black than anything else she’s ever done.

“Beyoncé knows how to toe that line between elegance and ratchet, she’s the epitome of it. She knows how to play both sides of that gate very, very well. To the point where you want to be the elegant Beyoncé, but you also want to kick it with the ratchet Beyoncé.”

He also added that with the various instances of police brutality and social injustices throughout the nation, “Formation” was necessary.

“There’s definitely a statement being made. I feel like it’s a statement that needs to be made with everything that’s going on right now with the whole Black Lives Matter [movement] and just the injustice that’s happening with that. I don’t see anything wrong with her celebrating her blackness, if that’s even what you want to call it.”

Ne-Yo Gets Transformed Into The Tin Man For ‘The Wiz Live!’ Along With More Cast Pictures

The cast of The Wiz Live! is ready for action, and fans finally have a preview of what they can expect from the musical.

Earlier this year, Shanice Williams had us all in our feelings when she landed the role of Dorothy for the upcoming televised play, but her cast mates are what have us shocked.

The actress will be joined by David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow, but Ne-Yo as the Tin Man certainly has social media blown away right now.

Promotional photos for the special were released by People Magazine, showing the R&B singer in full Tin Man costume, where he is nearly unrecognizable in his gear.

Costume designer, Paul Tazewell, talked about the costume, revealing, “He is a woodsman translated into the world of tin. It’s much more literal to work clothing than it is created out of a patchwork of metal. And it’s topped off with a tree-worker’s metal hat.”

Ne-Yo’s Fiancée Drops Proposal Video & Blinds Everyone With Her Huge Ring

Ne-Yo‘s fiancée finally got her ring when he popped the question again this weekend.

Many people still may not be huge fans of their union, but Crystal Renay didn’t want her followers to miss it when he proposed again in front of her friends and family.

For a man who is all about wearing a nice suit, this proposal was pretty casual as Ne-Yo got down on one knee during a cozy night in.

Instagram Photo

The moment was a complete surprise to Crystal who could only squeak about the state of her nails during the surprise proposal.

Instagram Photo

A man who will ask you to marry him twice must be pretty sure about his decision.

Crystal then hit her followers with an extreme closeup of the ring. You might need to put on some sunglasses before viewing the clip, which looked like it might have been recorded during an appraisal.

In the announcement on Instagram, Crystal Renay, fans and followers commented with negativity at the rumor of Renay’s sex tape, some accusing her of making porn. Rena however responded to some of the comments that she did not in fact make porn but experimented with girls and the footage was later leaked.

Ne-Yo, however,  according to the celeb gossip site, Mstarz, Ne-Yo posted a picture on Instagram with the following Bob Marley quote:

“Everyone’s so quick to judge someone else not understanding that NONE OF US ARE QUALIFIED TO JUDGE ANYONE. Imperfection and mistakes are part of what makes us human. I know I’ve made a few…”

However, when we checked Ne-Yo’s Instagram, it looked like the quote had been taken down. Either way, Ne-Yo still put a ring on it and doesn’t look to be changing his mind. So we’ll be over here minding our business.

Ne-Yo: ‘My Hair Line Is Definitely Not Dope’ [EXCLUSIVE]

Ne-Yo is rarely ever seen without a debonair hat adorning his head. From fancy fedoras to beanies to Kangols tilted precisely to the side, hats are as much of a staple in Ne-Yo’s wardrobe as a fly pair of shoes (that he uses to slide across the hardwood, of course).

With the release of his latest disc, “Non-Fiction,” we tapped Ne-Yo to become our ninth InterludesLIVE performer. After an intimate performance at The Conga Room in LA, Ne-Yo sat down with InterludesLIVE host Smokey Fontaine, where he recalled being bullied over his receding hairline as a teen.

“I’ve been wearing hats from the 7th grade,” Ne-Yo revealed during the candid sit down. “My hairline is definitely not dope. My hair started thinning really, really young. I was one of the few kids in my school who was allowed to wear my hat because I used to get picked on a lot for what my hairline was turning into.” He added, “I kept the hat on to avoid being talked about.”

No worries Ne-Yo, we love a good hat moment too!

Because of his addiction to hats, “Religious” singer has since developed a massive collection. “I have a problem,” he revealed jokingly.

Watch Ne-Yo detail his struggles in the above clip then tune in to the full InterludesLIVE show on Saturday, March 28 at 10pm/9c on TV One!

HE SAID/SHE SAID: Find Out Where Ne-Yo & Diamond Strawberry Had Their Craziest Sex (& Not Together!) [EXCLUSIVE]

neyo-diamond

Many of us have gotten to know Diamond Strawberry as a cast member on Vh1’s “Love & Hip Hop New York,” however the Met’s baseball legend’s (Darryl Strawberry) daughter is more than how she’s portrayed–a screaming and yelling baby momma who left her daughter in Los Angeles so she could pursue her own life and her man, music producer Cisco. Sounds like she could give us some relationship advice…or nah. We went for it anyway! But we needed someone else to add to the mix, someone who knows a thing of two about love.

MUST READ: Diamond Strawberry: ‘I Am A Damn Good Mom’ [EXCLUSIVE]

So we snagged up R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, who is constantly churning out hits for himself and others without fail. You know him and more than likely, you’re a fan and his lyrics have helped you move your ex “to the left, to the left.” So in typical #TeamBeautiful fashion, we placed this odd couple together to give us insight on various topics, including long distance love tips, how to talk a woman down from her crazy rants and we even found out the wildest places these two have had sex! Check it out!

HelloBeautiful: What’s the biggest obstacle in merging families?

Ne-Yo: I’m not sure. [laughs] There’s always a possibility of members from each side of the family not getting along, children not getting along, that’s really it. There’s financial obstacles—more people means more money to spend to take care of all these people. These things can stand in the way if you allow them to stay in the way.

Diamond Strawberry: It would definitely be with the kids, baby momma drama or the kids not getting along or the girlfriend having to learn her man’s kids and vice versa, it’s just difficult. If there’s genuine love there, you can overcome anything.

HB: Where’s the craziest place you’ve ever had sex?

Ne-Yo: The kitchen in a pizza parlor. This is way, way back. I was much younger and she worked at a pizza place. It wasn’t even like a franchise pizza place. I went to pick her up and there it was.

DS: I’m sure everybody knows. The weirdest place I’ve had sex is in the car. To clear that up, when I got here, we were not having sex in the car, we were having sex in hotels. I was referring to me being in L.A…anyways. I take that back! I have done it…can I say it? People are going to be like this b*tch! The weirdest place I’ve had sex is the club. They made the mistake of having a coed bathroom and me and Cisco went in there and did our business.

HB: What’s the hardest part about being in a long distance relationship?

Ne-Yo: You’re so far away from the people that you love. Just the fact that your significant other is so far away, it can mess with you, play tricks on you. You make assumptions about stuff. You call, they don’t pick up right away, your mind starts racing. If you’re going to be in a long distance relationship, trust is going to be even 10 times more important that in a regular relationship. It gets difficult.

DS: Not being able to see that person when you want to. Sometimes you want to cuddle and wake up next to that person, touch and see them and you can’t and it sucks.

And a little something something extra from Ne-Yo:

HB: What are your go-to tactics for talking your girl off the ledge?

Ne-Yo: I might get in trouble for this. What I’ve learned over the years, they’re either already standing on the ledge about to chew your head off or are in a running start towards the ledge. You have to turn it around. You have to make whatever it is about her. You are the enemy and she is the destroyer tank and she will do just that. You have to find a way to politely turn things around and make it about her. It’s got to be clever. She can’t be barking on you and then you say, ‘Hey baby, your hair looks nice today.’ That doesn’t work. [laughs] Flip it back around. Women love to talk about themselves and love to know they’re being listened to when they talk. You’ve got to figure out a way to work that in your favor.

Ne-Yo’s New Album ‘Non-Fiction’ Is Out Today & Spoiler Alert…You Might Be On It! [EXCLUSIVE]

neyo

R&B superstar Ne-Yo has released his sixth studio album today, Non-Fiction. The all things love, sex and relationships album is brutally honest and musically brilliant. Non-Fiction is not only Ne-Yo’s loved and lost soul bleeding all over the tracks, but he also crowd-sourced his fans for love stories. That’s right, Ne-Yo asked his fans for the heartbreaking tales so that he could write songs about them and in turn share those relatable experiences with the world. Ne-Yo tells #TeamBeautiful exclusively, “I just wanted to do something special for my fans. They’re the entire reason I’m still here. As opposed to just telling my story, I wanted to give them an outlet to tell theirs.”

MUST READ: HE SAID/SHE SAID: Taraji P. Henson & Ne-Yo Reveal Their Celeb Crushes & You’ll Never Guess Who! [EXCLUSIVE]

Non-Fiction offers up the R&B we’re used to with Ne-Yo, but he’s also got some upbeat EDM tunes, symphonic melodies and soulful hip hop. There’s even a track (“Too Hood,” where Ne-Yo raps). And by now, you’ve probably already heard about “Storytime,” it’s the song where Ne-Yo tries to convince a woman to have a threesome. “I wish you’d just give it a try, you’ve never done it, how you know what you don’t like?” Ne-Yo sings before offering to the woman in question that she can even pick the third woman.

During our sit down with the “Money Can Buy” crooner, he revealed to us what he’s been doing in the two years since his last album, how his sound is evolving and who the Hollywood powers that be wanted him to play in a biopic. Check out our chat below.

What’s Ne-Yo’s sound now?

The sound for this album is a bit soulful. A good majority of the album is R&B, a little dance and EDM sprinkled in there. There’s something that everyone who calls themselves a Ne-Yo fan can latch on to.

Do you always prefer to include the things that you go through on a record?

This time around it was slightly different. I knew I was going to be telling a lot of truth, even some painful truths, I knew that was going to be important. I tell people if they want to know me, they’ve got to listen to my music and not the blogs.

Why be transparent with people with your music if they’re going to be critics anyway?

Only half of it is for them. The other half of it is for you. I’m very proud of this album, the way it came out, the songs, the way it’s put together—that 50 percent is me. Now I have to see what everyone else’s 50 percent looks like. Do they like it as much as me? Less? Do they care at all?

What is the biggest musical risk that you haven’t taken yet that you’re interested in trying?

That genre jump is never an easy one. I feel like I’m in a place now where if I wanted to do something more classical or with a big band sound, that I could and if the song was good enough, it would be accepted. I’m getting a place where that’s what people expect from me.

It’s been two years since the last album, what were you up to?

A good majority of the time was spent weaving out the best stories. I reached out to my fans via Twitter about their story. I got a lot of stories. I couldn’t tell anybody what I was doing with them because they would have just silly stuff trying to get on that way. We just kinda talked about it.

Do you have plans to do more acting? We loved you in “Red Tails!”

Not before I get a little better. I know that I’m not horrible. I know that I can. For the stuff they’ve been offering, it’s chops I don’t have yet. I’ve gotten a lot of biopic offers. Give me a character that never existed that I can help create and I can do that all day long. When it comes to becoming somebody else, it takes time I don’t have and skills I don’t have. I want to become a better actor before I try that. I was asked about Jackie Robinson before “42” came out. I was asked about James Brown before “Get On Up” came out. There’s a couple others.

While we’ll be patiently waiting for R&B gentleman to get his acting chops up to see him on the big screen, we don’t have to wait at all for his new album Non-Fiction. Get your copy now!

You’ll be shocked to see who makes Ne-Yo bite his bottom lip and which hot young baller Taraji’s got her eyes on!

HelloBeautiful: Men and women who are married, having friends of the opposite sex. Yes or no?

Taraji P. Henson: Yes. I think it could be healthy. But, you know, we are human. I have male friends. If I get into a relationship, I’m not gonna stop being their friend because I’m in a relationship. As long as it’s respectful. Now, it’s up to the man to make his woman feel comfortable in that and vice versa. If I have a male friend, I have to go out of my way to make my man feel comfortable about it. When you have a best same-sex friend, when you get married, that friendship is important, but you now have a new best friend. If we’re together and you still have to talk to Renee and go see her everyday, well, then Houston, we have a problem. But, if it’s your friend and you check in every now and then and he comes and brings his kids, it’s all good. Everything in moderation.

Ne-Yo: I think so. It depends on the maturity of the people involved, which is the case for most things. Is it common? Is it likely that people have that maturity? Not always. I definitely feel like it’s possible.

HB: Would you follow your significant other on social media?

TPH: I have a guy that I like right now and I don’t follow him. I don’t care. I get to talk to him. I don’t have to follow him. I don’t feel like checking on people. I don’t want that energy. I don’t want to stress myself. That’s too much. At the end of the day, if you’re doing dirt, I’m gonna find out eventually.

Ne-Yo: Yeah. Why not? Instagram, if you’re a fan of your girl and you like the kinds of pictures she takes, why not?

HB: Do you have a celebrity crush?

TPH: Yeah, Serge Ibaka, but he’s too young, child. I like to look at him. If he had an older twin brother, that would be great. He looks like an African king. Beautiful. Let’s see because, you know, it changes. I love me some Ryan Gosling. I’m in love with his acting. He is something special to look at too, but he’s an incredible actor.

N-Y: I’m a huge fan of Nicki Minaj, her rap ability as well as what she looks like. Have you seen “Anaconda?” Lawd have mercy. Scarlett Johannson is one of my favorite actresses. She’s absolutely beautiful and talented. Nicki Minaj and Scarlet Johannson, that would be a fun afternoon. Yeah, I said that.
