Cam Newton Talks Super Bowl Loss & Says America Is ‘Beyond’ Race In New GQ Interview

Houston Texans v Carolina Panthers

Following one of the best regular seasons in modern-day football, Cam Newton‘s Carolina Panthers lost to NFL veteran Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

After taking the summer off to recoup and train, Newton is ready to put up some major numbers again, and spoke to GQ about the trials and tribulations of last season.

One of his lowest points was failing to win the Super Bowl, which he admits was very emotional for him.

A lot of emotion. We play the game to win. And we didn’t. I could care less. You know, what a person says to me, says about me — if it’s not coming out of Chosen’s mouth.… That’s what the birth of my son does. Like, what do I gain? Now I have purpose in this world. Whether a mean tweet, a mean [person] saying, ‘Hey, you’re supposed to do it like this’ — if my son ain’t saying it, then it don’t matter to me.”

Many people found issue with the 27-year-old being so animated on the field, with plenty believing that race played a huge part in how the media and fans belittled him.

Last January Newton said, “I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.”

But when asked about that comment recently, the quarterback seemed to feel differently. Read the exchange with GQ below:

GQ: Do you feel like football fans are racist toward you?

CN: It’s not racism. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.

GQ: So if it’s not that, what is it, do you think?

CN: I’ll let you be the judge. I don’t look at it like that. I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things. But this is what makes sports so amazing, that we can start a discussion around a table, in the newspaper, in the magazines, that will get people’s attention. And that’s what sports does.

GQ: In January, right before the Super Bowl, you said: ‘I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.’

CN: I don’t want this to be about race, because it’s not. It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that. As a nation.

GQ: You really think so?

CN: Yeah. I mean, you bring it to people’s attention. But after that, that’s it.

While it’s not clear if Newton was tired of talking about the subject or if he truly feels that way, Twitter was ready for it:

Peyton Manning Retires After Storied 18-Year NFL Career

Jacksonville Jaguars v Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, has finally decided to retire.

After a surprising Super Bowl 50 win against the Carolina Panthers, Peyton will ride off into the sunset. The Denver Broncos announced Sunday that the five-time NFL MVP is set to hold a news conference announcing his departure at 1 p.m. Monday.

According to ESPN, Manning called the Broncos on Saturday night to inform the organization of his decision to retire. The press conference was already scheduled for Monday, but no one knew what the QB would say.

Broncos general manager and football legend John Elway released a statement:

When you look at everything Peyton has accomplished as a player and person, it’s easy to see how fortunate we’ve been to have him on our team. Peyton was everything that we thought he was and even more — not only for the football team but in the community. I’m very thankful Peyton chose to play for the Denver Broncos, and I congratulate him on his Hall of Fame career.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke to Manning’s immense talent:

Peyton Manning’s extraordinary career was driven by his talent, an incredible work ethic, and an unwavering desire to be the best and ended so perfectly for him with a Super Bowl victory. Peyton’s competitive fire and love of the game made him a legendary player who thrilled fans for a generation. He has served as a great representative of the NFL both on the field and in his community. We are forever grateful for Peyton’s unmatched contributions to the game and know that his success will continue in the next phase of his life.”

Peyton will go down as the only quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl with two different teams.

The Jordan Crying Meme Was The Real Winner Of The NFC & AFC Championship Games

10th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Kick Off Party

If something bad happens in pop culture, the Michael Jordan crying face is here to make a joke out of it.

And the latest round of humiliation comes for the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals during Sunday night’s NFC and AFC Championship games. Tom Brady, the NFL’s golden boy, fell victim to veteran Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning down the stretch, which called for the Jordan crying face meme on him, head coach Bill Belichick, and even the Patriots’ logo. The Cardinals were no match for Dab Daddy Cam Newton‘s efficient offense, and the turnovers didn’t help either; so of course, they got the same treatment.

As per usual, one man’s distress is internet gold for the rest of us. Here are the best Michael Jordan crying face memes from the NFC and AFC Championship games.

Since the meme’s indescribable rise, no one in the Jordan family has mentioned it – until now. Jordan’s son Marcus took to Twitter to acknowledge the joke:

Peyton Manning Calls Allegations Of HGH Use A “Complete & Total Joke”

[ione_ndn_embed video_id=30121540]

After the Al Jazeera documentary, The Dark Side: The Secret World of Sports Doping, aired on Saturday implicating Peyton Manning as an HGH user, he’s already shot down the allegations.

The report is based on secret recordings made of Charles Sly, a former intern at a Indianapolis treatment center. Al Jazeera sent hurdler Liam Collins undercover to get the information and now the intern has recanted the claims. The report also says that Manning had the performance enhancing drugs sent to his home under his wife Ashley’s name. Manning took to ESPN on Sunday morning to speak on the matter.

I can’t speak for any other athlete. I know what I’ve done, I know how hard I’ve worked in my 18 years of playing in the NFL. There are no shortcuts in the NFL. I’ve done it the long way, I’ve done it the hard way. And to insinuate anything otherwise is a complete and total joke, it’s defamation and it really ticks me off,” Manning told ESPN.

Both the Denver Broncos and his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, have issued statements supporting Manning.

“Knowing Peyton Manning and everything he stands for, the Denver Broncos support him 100 percent,” said the Broncos. “These are false claims made to Al Jazeera, and we don’t believe the report.”

We are thoroughly familiar with Peyton’s tireless work habits, his medical history, and, most importantly, his integrity,” the Colts said, according to the Indy Star.

The report has made little waves around the NFL, with many taking up for Manning – including fellow quarterback Tom Brady, who told WEEI in Boston that he considers Manning a friend and fully supports him.

Peyton Manning Admits That 2011 Neck Surgery Left Him With No Feeling In His Fingertips

Since returning from a career-threatening surgery back in 2011, Peyton Manning has remained quiet in revealing any details on his recovery.

He managed to regain his talent and become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL again, and he now feels comfortable enough to admit that he has no feelings in his fingertips.

In an interview with MMQB’s Peter King, Manning admits, “I can’t feel anything in my fingertips. It’s crazy. I’ve talked to a doctor recently who said, Don’t count on the feeling coming back. It was hard for me for about two years, because one doctor told me I could wake up any morning and it might come back. So you wake up every day thinking, Today’s the day! Then it’s not.”

The admission is twofold in that it explains why Peyton struggles at times, like being blown out in the Super Bowl by 35 points, but also makes it even more amazing how he manages to be one of the league’s best.

Manning has thrown 131 touchdowns against 36 interceptions as a Bronco. In 2013, he set the NFL record for touchdown passes and yards in a single season and also won  the NFL’s MVP award.

While many wrote Peyton off after the 2011 series, it’s clear he’s got more fuel in the tank.

Penny Hardaway To Join Group Set To Buy Memphis Grizzlies

Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway was one of theNBA’s breakout superstars when he came into the league in 1993, his popularity hitting its peak during the Chris Rock-voiced Lil’ Penny commercials and sneaker craze in the mid 90′s. Still, be honest. When was the last time you heard anything relevant about Penny (and don’t say when he was with the Knicks)? My answer: not since Shaquille O’neal left the Orlando Magic for the LosAngeles Lakers.

Penny is attempting to make a splash in business attempting to join a group of investors that already include Justin Timberlake, Peyton Manning’s wife Ashley among others. Why would Penny be interested in the Memphis Grizzlies you ask? He is a Memphis native who played college ball at the state college.

Tucker Carlson Should Be Fired For “Execute” Vick Comments

Okay, I know this may be last week’s news but Tucker Carlson thinks Michael Vick should be executed. Carlson should be arrested given the likelihood of Fox News viewers to carry out violent attacks.

If Michael Vick should be executed and given the same treatment that he gave the dogs, shouldn’t Peyton Manning and his brother Eli be shot like the deers they shoot when they go deer hunting? What about Dick Cheney? Should he be executed by firing squads like the poor birds he was shooting at when he shot his friend in the face?

What about Tucker Carlson’s fellow Fox News host Mike Huckabee? His son was charged with torturing and murdering a stray dog. Should young Huckabee be tortured and murdered too? What does Tucker Carlson have to say about that.

What about his other fellow Fox News host, Karl Rove who hunts doves, the international symbol of peace for fun during his off time. Should he be shot for killing harmless animals?

I’m not going to defend Michael Vick’s dogfighting, but he did his time and has repented. In many urban areas, pitbulls are used as a form of protection against burglars and robbers. They are trained and bred to be fierce and at times deadly. Many people who train and fight pits have a close relationships with those animals not unlike trainers who train boxers or jockeys or animal trainers.

It is true that some dogs who were injured in battle were electrocuted but how is that different than horse trainers who kill horses after the horses are injured in races According to PETA thousands of Greyhound dogs are killed as puppies in the name of “selective breeding” but the Greyhound industry hasn’t faced close to the criticism that Vick has.

The fact that PETA and others choose to go after Michael Vick is another way Black people are used as scapegoats for national problems. America is built on the killing of animals, from the clothes we wear to the food we eat. Hunting is still legal in several states, not so people can feed their families, but so a small group of people can amuse themselves by killing animals. The beef, chicken, pork, leather and dairy industries are all based on the killing and abuse of animals.

How is taking animals bred to fight and fighting them worse than shooting innocent animals for fun? How come PETA never criticizes squeaky clean All-American Quarterback Peyton Manning for his execution of deers but vilifies Michael Vick at every opportunity, despite everything he has done to repent? If Tucker Carlson is going to call for Vick’s execution shouldn’t he call for the execution of the Manning Brothers, and Fox News favorites Cheney and Rove?
