Shaquille O’Neal is coming to the aid of a Georgia family struck by an unforeseen loss. The retired baller is paying for the funeral costs of a boy who accidentally shot and killed himself.

13-year-old Malachi Hemphill was showing off a gun on Instagram Live when it accidentally went off. His mother and sister, who heard the gun go off, found him in his bedroom, unconscious and laying in a pool of blood. He died Wednesday.

Shaq heard the sad news and visited the family’s home in Atlanta the next day and offered to pay for Malachi’s services. The young boy’s grandmother said the family didn’t have insurance for Malachi, so Shaq’s gesture is “a blessing and very touching” and she appreciates everything he does for the community.

“This is just a pain that will never go away,” Stephens said to her local news station 11 Alive. “He was my only son. He was only 13. Just the thought of me seeing him on the floor will never leave my brain.” Stephens has been told that someone asked why he didn’t have a clip in the gun and told him to put a clip in the gun. “As he put the clip in the gun, that is when the gun went off,” she said. Some 40-50 kids ran over to the house after witnessing their friend’s death live on social media.

Wow: Allen Iverson Nearly Tears Up Talking About His Wife During Hall Of Fame Speech

When you think of Philadelphia sports in the last 20 years, what athlete comes to mind? “The Answer,” Allen Iverson. The 6’0” guard from Newport News, Virginia was drafted as the #1 selection by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1996 NBA Draft. Iverson, with his Hip-Hop style and his trademark “crossover” was able to set the NBA on fire on his way to setting numerous Rookie Records and winning the Schick Rookie of the Year award.

In the 2000-2001 NBA season, Iverson who was awarded League MVP, averaged a career high 31.1 points per game as he led his 76ers team to their first NBA Finals appearance since winning it all in 1983. What a year 2001 was, not only sports fans here in Philly, but for people all across the globe, as they were able to see and learn what we in Philly already knew; Allen Iverson was a true sports hero. Despite his size, he played with tenacity, determination, and had a will that put him in a league of his own. The little guy, Iverson, was never the tallest or the strongest guy on the floor, but if we were weighing hearts his would tip the scale.

After an illustrious NBA career, Allen Iverson, was inducted into the National Basketball Association Hall of Fame. Iverson is pound for pound “the greatest player” in NBA History.

Allen Iverson gave an emotional speech at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday. The Answer thanked everyone from his wife Tawanna and their four kids, to his favorite musicians: Tupac, Biggie, Jadakiss, Redman and Michael Jackson.

There were funny stories, like the first time he met Michael Jordan, and jokes about the ups and downs of his turbulent career.

But while Iverson spent a lot of time shouting out his basketball heroes, coaches and teammates, he almost teared up while thanking his wife Tawanna:

“I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for me. Not just my career. Yeah, obviously you enabled me to go to work and you took care of home, but loving me the way you do, and caring about the type of person i am and what type of person i need to be to set an example for our babies, you’re just the best to me. i love you so much. i look forward to spending two more decades with you. and i want you to be proud of yourself. i want you to walk around and understand that you are a Hall of Famer.”

Iverson is joined in the 2016 Hall Of Fame class by Shaquille O’neal and Yao Ming.

Earlier today before the All-Star Game in Toronto, the Hall of Fame announced its finalists for this year. Allen Iverson was selected as one of the finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame. The former guard and Sixers legend was among 14 finalists named. The 2016 Hall of Fame inductees will be announced prior to the NCAA Men’s Championship game in Houston on April 4th.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame 2016 finalists are Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Johnson, Tom Izzo, John McLendon, Eddie Sutton, Bo Ryan, Sheryl Swoopes, Robert Hughes, Muffet McGraw, Darrell Garretson, Lefty Driesell, Leita Andrews and the 1954-58 Wayland Baptist U. team.

Iverson was a nine-time all-star and perhaps the most popular Philadelphia sports figure in the last 25 years. He played with the Sixers from 1996 to 2006 and during the 2009-10 season. He also had stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies during his NBA career. Iverson briefly played for Besiktas Milangaz of the Turkish Basketball League in 2010-11.

In an effort speed up the induction process, Shaq, Yao Ming, and Allen Iverson are already eligible for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The wait was originally six years and has now been knocked down to four. “We wanted to get more in line with some of the other Halls, and it just seemed like too long of a wait for some of the individuals,” said Hall chairman Jerry Colangelo during an interview with ESPN. And now, this year’s biggest candidates retired after the 2010-11 season. They all have their own unique claim to fame, as bad boy Iverson gave the NBA much-needed swag, Big Diesel Shaq won four rings, and Yao Ming catapulted China’s scouting pool to new heights.

Aside from the NBA’s big names, Tom Izzo, head coach of the Michigan State basketball team, is also being considered. And, as women continue to dominate sports this year, WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes is eligible to be inducted as well. In her storied career, she won three MVPs and four consecutive championships with the Houston Comets.

The Hall of Fame finalists are expected to be named in February, with the induction ceremony taking place in September.

Kobe Bryant Opens Up About Shaq Feud, Which Championship Ring Means The Most

As Kobe Bryant relishes in his victory lap after announcing his retirement, the latest person to pick the NBA superstar’s brain is NBA on TNT‘s Ernie Johnson.

Lucky for any diehard Laker fan, the interview was posted to Twitter. The Black Mamba answered the questions everyone wants to know, including whether he could do a sudden about-face and decide not to retire. Kobe says there’s no chance of that happening – he won’t pull a Jordan or Brett Favre and come back from retirement.

Known as one of the most cutthroat competitors in the league, Kobe was asked about the best competitors he’d ever gone up against. He kept it short, naming Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, and gave Scottie Pippen an honorable mention. As the league began to develop around Kobe’s talents, defenders got stronger. The ones who gave him the most trouble were Tony Allen, Raja Bowen, and the infamous lockdown artist Bruce Bowen.

Kobe even admitted that his favorite championship ring came in 2010 against the Celtics, and he’d wished things didn’t go sour with Shaq.

Shaquille O’Neal’s Epic Fall [Video]

'Wake Up Call' To Kick Off The Back To School Season With Shaquille O'Neal

Source: Slaven Vlasic / Getty

Le sigh. Walking is hard, mmmk? Or at least, this is what NBA superstar turned commentator Shaquille O’Neal discovered earlier tonight when he slipped, fell, and damn near obliterated TNT’s set during tonight’s halftime of the Clippers/Rockets playoff game.

Judging from a quick Google search, it appears as though there is quite a treasure trove of video clips featuring Shaq Diesel in the battle of his life against gravity, with gravity besting him every. Single. Time.

Luckily, Shaq had a sense of humor about it, which isn’t all that surprising, given his larger than life personality on and off the court.

And then, because there is, in fact, absolutely no chill on the Internet anywhere, Twitter user @its_whitney posted this slo-mo Vine vid:

Pretty sure we’ll be seeing more video mash-ups of Shaq’s tumble, which may actually be this week’s answer to the #UncleDenzel memes that sprang up after the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight.

Shaquille O’Neal To Star In Workplace Sitcom

Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal is about to toss his hat into the sitcom arena. O’Neal is teaming up with TruTV to star in the comedy series, Shaq Inq, which is loosely based on the former All-Star’s business dynasty. The workplace comedy will center on O’Neal’s business empire, and how he and his team manages the chaos of his current endorsements and existing products. According to Deadline, the group along with the TNT NBA sports analyst attempt to execute new and sometimes outlandish business ideas as employees attempt to snag power and recognition to make Shaq proud.

TruTV stated the 30-minute comedy series will have the same tone of HBO’s Veep. While starring on the show, O’Neal will also serve as an executive producer for the project. TMZ is reporting a script for the show has been floating around Hollywood since last month and fans of the big guy can expect it to have a little raunchy humor involved. Wonder if Shaq Diesel will crack jokes about ex-wife Shaunie’s contribution to television with her controversial reality shows Basketball Wives and Basketball Wives: LA, or his dabble into the rap world.

So far no word on when the project is set to begin production or when it will debut.

The Top 5 Charles Barkley Vs. Shaq Moments [VIDEO]

Shaq and Charles.jpg

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal are the best of frenemies. The two retired NBA vets have enjoyed a long-standing rivalry that extends back to their time on the basketball court. These days the bald and bold former athletes  spend their time trading jabs as basketball commentators on TNT and it’s often more entertaining than the games. When they aren’t going at over who has more rings (Shaq 4, Charles 0) the two big men are snapping on their respective weight, endorsements and fighting skills.

Here are’s Top 5 Shaq vs Charles Barkley moments.

5) BASKETBRAWL: In 1999 Charles Barkley began his last season in the NBA as a member of the Houston Rockets. During a November 10th game against their Western Conference rivals The L.A. Lakers things got chippy under the basket.

During one chippy play O’Neal blocked a layup by Barkley then shoved him, prompting Barkley to throw the ball at O’Neal. Both mean were ejected from the game and the Lakers won 89-88.

[ione_embed src=// service=youtube width=640 height=390 type=iframe]

4) TWEET DECKS: A dominant social media presence, Shaq looks for any chance to snap on Sir Charles on Twitter, especially since Barkley doesn’t have an account.  On March 27th he wrote:

“Charles Barkley, your belly looks tired, you should rest [it] on the desk…”

Charles retaliated by making fun of the fact that Shaq makes money pushing products that make you fat.

“Oh my god, If [O’Neal] ever got my bank account, he would just kill himself,” Barkley said. “He’s on every commercial. He’s got enough lotion to last him the rest of his life. … [He’s] got that cream soda, spreading diabetes all across the world, as we speak. Got like 50 grams of soda in one can of that cream soda.”

[ione_embed src=// service=youtube width=610 height=374 type=iframe]

On another occasion Shaq went on Instagram and posted a pic of Charles as a baby holding an iPad. Again, since he is not on social media he couldn’t respond there. So Conan O’Brien gave him an assist. Charles followed up with another slam dunk at Shaq’s endorsements with this 1-2 punch.

“I figured out why he keeps rubbing lotion all over his body, so he can fit his fat ass in a Buick.”

[ione_embed src=// service=youtube width=630 height=360 type=iframe]

3) KUNG-FU HUSTLE : Charles has been training for MMA and decided take on Shaq-Fu in the most awkward moment in sports commentating history.

2) GENIE IN A BOTTLE: The Big Aristotle tried to get philosophical during one broadcast by quoting advice from Michael Jordan and Barkley snapped back that he should have advised him against making “Kazaam,” the 1996 box office dud where Shaq plays a genie.

[ione_embed src=// service=youtube width=630 height=379 type=iframe]

shaq kazaam gif

1) TRUTH HURTS: During one of Shaq’s many rants against All-Star center Dwight Howard, Barkley tells Shaq he’d have no rings without Kobe Bryant and Rick Fox.

“If it wasn’t for Kobe Bryant, you wouldn’t have everything,” Barkley said. “Why don’t you walk over to NBA TV studios and thank Rick Fox for getting you those rings?”

Shaq had no response.

According to TMZ, Shaunie  tried to convince Shaq that her new show would be devoid of the ratchetry of her other “Basketball Wives” reality properties, but rather wholesome family fun.   But Shaq was unconvinced.  Shaq believes that the show would prove to be a distraction for their four children, as some of them are already struggling academically.

Although the Los Angeles Lakers are struggling right now in the stacked NBA Western Conference, the team owned the early part of the century. Anchored by now-retired center Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, the Lakers rattled off three straight championship wins through 2000-2002 under the guiding eyes of Coach Phil Jackson. Don’t know if that’ll be happening again anytime soon, though.

Shaq Wants You To Sip On His Liquor

Shaq is getting in the liquor business, and his new brand Luv Shaq will be on the shelves in 2013.

You read that right. Luv. Shaq.

According to the New York Post, it’s going to be “sugar- and gluten-free,” and it will be available in “in coconut flavor, and the bottle features an image of O’Neal with giant wings.” Giant. Wings. The founder of Devotion Vodka, which is producing the vodka, says it will compete with Diddy’s Ciroc, but at a “more competitive price.”

I applaud Shaq for making a liquor that is more “health conscious” (but it’s still alcohol, how conscious can it be?) especially since teeny skinny cocktails are all the rage right now. Get in where you fit it, Mr. O’Neal. But the name? And the gimmick of him with wings? I don’t know if I can cosign this one, bruh. I would have accepted T.W.I.S.M. over this.

Will you try Shaq’s vodka?

Dwight Howard Says Shaq Should “Get On With His Life”

It’s always interesting when recently retired players become sports commentators. With memories of the court or field still fresh in their heads, they haven’t quite developed the level of objectivity of some of their peers.

Since retiring from the NBA Shaquille O’Neal has become an analyst for TNT.  When recently asked to name the best Center in the NBA “The Diesel” bestowed that honor on Lakers big man Andrew Bynum. However, in a head-to-head match up with Orlando Magic Center Dwight Howard (the man many would consider the best center) Bynum came up short.

Howard got the best of Bynum, finishing with 21 points, 23 rebounds and one blocked shot to Bynum’s 10 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the win. For the season Howard is averaging 20 pts, 16 rebounds ad 2.3 blocks to Bynum’s 15 pts, 13 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

So what did Dwight have to say in response to Shaq?

“He’s mad about ‘Superman,'” Howard said referring to his Slam Dunk contest routine from 2008. “I didn’t know he made it up. I didn’t know Superman came from Shaquille O’Neal.”

Superman was one of several nicknames Shaquille O’Neal used during his career, flaunting a Kryptonian “S” tattoo on his bicep. But Howard doesn’t care.

“I would suggest he’d just sit down and get on with his life,” Dwight added. “He don’t play no more, so what’s the point of talking trash? It’s not like we’re wrestlers and we get to battle it out. Who cares?”
