One of Black Hollywood’s most infamous squabbles has been finally put to rest. Will Smith and Janet Hubert have put aside their problems.

This week the cast of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunited to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary. While the crew has enjoyed great relationships with each other almost three decades since the finale one original member wasn’t so lucky. After the second season the original Aunt Vivian mysteriously exited the show and was replaced by the second Vivian Banks, Daphne Maxwell Reid. While NBC did not issue any reasoning regarding her departure the show continued to blossom without her.

Over the years Hubert has expressed her frustration and called out Will on social media claiming he was partly the reason for her termination. Surprisingly she made an appearance on the reunion special and spoke to Will about what happened. During the sit down she revealed she was actually in an abusive relationship. “I was no longer laughing, smiling, joking because there were things that were going on that nobody knew about,” she explained. “The cast had no idea what was going on.” Will then admitted how now see how was complicit in her exit. “I can see how I made the set very difficult for Janet,” he said.

Hubert also touched on the rumors that she was labeled difficult to work with. “I lost everything. Reputation. Everything. Everything. And I understand you were able to move forward but you know those words calling a Black woman ‘difficult’ in Hollywood is the kiss of death,” she explained. “It’s the kiss of death and it’s hard enough being a dark-skinned Black woman in this business.”

As Beyoncé And Jay-Z continue to amplify the voice of the voiceless they need to answer for some vocals. They are accused of using someone’s talent without compensation.

TMZ is reporting that the star couple is now facing a lawsuit over their surprise 2018 album Everything Is Love. According to the report their team leaned on Dr. L’Antoinette Stines to source dancers for a video that promoted their tour. She says she fulfilled her obligations regarding booking the talent and was then asked to speak on her views on love. Her talk was recorded for promotional purposes for the aforementioned video.

When asked “Can you tell us about love?” she started by saying “Hmm, well there’s love of children, love of self, love of God, love of a partner – and all of them have a different shape. But all of them is the same in the end: It’s about sensitivity, it’s about passion, it’s about unconditional giving of self to another person”. Stines also added some depth by touching on love for humanity. “That’s the love that is right now needed most, but in everything, in all of that love, there is a soul.”

Fast forward a couple of months later and her discourse was the first minute of the duo’s “Black Effect” track. After her speech, Jay-Z starts rapping his verse. Stines says that The Carters never got her formal approval to use her likeness on the track thus she is seeking financial compensation as the contract she signed during the filming was only for the promotional trailer. You can listen to the song below.

If you thought Carole Baskin was the original source of calling folks cats and kittens, you were wrong. Sherman McDaniels, the fictional host of “Sherman’s Showcase” is taking all the credit for that one and he’s back with a vengeance. AMC and IFC are bringing back the retro flavored variety show created by and starring Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle, with a one hour Sherman’s Showcase “Black History Month Spectacular” premiering on June 19, Juneteenth, on both networks. Check out the trailer below:

The special will air at 10 PM ET/PT on AMC followed by an 11 PM ET/PT showing on IFC. The spectacular will feature more of the sketches, A-list guest stars and award winning songs that earned the series a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as inclusion on numerous ‘Best of 2019’ lists.

“Sherman’s Showcase host Sherman McDaniels has dreamed of doing a Black History Month episode for decades,” said creators and stars Salahuddin and Riddle. “Thanks to IFC and AMC, he’s finally got the chance. Granted, Black History Month was in February. But Sherman said ‘No, trust me, let’s hold off until the world undergoes some fundamental change that forces everyone to stay at home and watch the Showcase.’ And Sherman got his wish. He’d also like to ask Tiger King’s Carole Baskin to stop using his signature phrase ‘cats and kittens,’ which he’s been using on the Showcase since 1973.”

Check out a clip from the upcoming premiere below:

The acclaimed Sherman’s Showcase will roll out its “Black History Month Spectacular” by honoring historic African-American icons both past and present, alongside superheroes, period dramas, vampires, and a very special re-imagining of the cult film The Last Dragon. Shaq Does Viral Dance With Sons Shareef & Shaqir, Challenges NBA Players

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the best athletes the world has ever seen; but we can’t say the same for his dancing skills.

The NBA legend and his sons, Shareef and Shaquir, did the viral Tik Tok dance to, “Lean wit It, Rock wit It” by Dem Franchize Boyz on Friday night. Shaq and his boys were all dressed casually in basketball shorts, sweats, tees, and tank tops as they performed their synchronized dance. The 7’1″ basketball great seemed proud of his moves. He was so pleased with himself that he teased several NBA players online.

“Y’all don’t want none @kingjames @dwyanewade @damianlillard @dwighthoward @stephencurry30 @stephenasmith @ud40 @joelembiid,” Shaq captioned his video.

According to Melo, LeBron James saved him while their group was swimming in the ocean. After a strong current began to pull Anthony out to sea, James jumped off the boat to grab his friend and swim him back to safety.

“I look up and the current is taking me into the middle of the ocean, opposite from the boat,” Anthony said. “Then I look up at the boat and I see Bron, Bron jumps off the boat like he’s MacGyver. He jumps off the boat into the water. He was bringing me back with one arm. He’s swimming with the other arm, and he’s carrying in one arm.”

Former NFL Player Myron Rolle Is Now A Doctor Fighting Coronavirus

Years ago, Myron Rolle gave up football for a career in medicine. Now, he’s using his expertise to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Rhodes Scholar and Tennessee Titans safety is now a doctor and third-year neurosurgery resident in Boston on the front lines at Massachusetts General Hospital.

“I went down to the emergency department, and as I was walking through the emergency department I was seeing so many individuals with respiratory distress and respiratory compromise, and the numbers are staggering,” Rolle told ESPN. “Our neurosurgical floor has been transformed into a floor just full of COVID-19 patients.

“It is hectic, that’s for sure,” he continued.

According to Rolle, his neurosurgery department’s operating rooms could be turned into ICUs because of the increasing number of coronavirus patients.

After graduating from Florida State in three years, he spent what would have been his senior year at Oxford University. In 2010, he was drafted by the Titans but never played in any regular-season games. He retired in 2013 in favor of medical school, but says football has influenced his work in the operating room.

“Football has never left me,” Rolle said. “I still wake up in the morning and think of the operating room like a game, like it’s showtime, let’s perform. I gotta do what I gotta do because people are counting on us right now. This is our time to help very sick people. So that motivation continues to drive me every single day.”

‘As We Climb’

[anvplayer video=”4849951″]
“Lifting As We Climb” has long been the mission of African-American women. The sentiment, dating back to the first clubs founded by black women who fought for women’s suffrage and equality, is evidence that there has always been a bigger picture in mind.

To celebrate Black History Month and to commemorate the centennial of the 19th amendment ratification, Madamenoire partnered with Ancestry to create As We Climb, a celebration of trailblazing African American women who helped shape history. From bringing their families through the atrocities of slavery to mobilizing communities to fight for their rights, we highlight the determination, beliefs and hopes of past generations through an exploration of the lineages of three inspiring African-American women.

In As We Climb we follow Cathy Hughes, founder and chairperson of the largest African-American owned media company, Urban One; Eunique Jones Gibson, founder of Because of Them We Can, a platform dedicated to promoting black excellence and Brooklin Hardiman; a passionate student and voting activist at Howard University (HBCU), as they discover the histories of remarkable women in their bloodlines who laid the groundwork for generations to come. From the not-so-simple act of making sure their children could read to bravely speaking out on the injustice of slavery, we’re introduced to their ancestors who lived by the mantra “if I can’t, they will.” As each woman explores new branches in her family tree, we find that commitment to civic action and making change for the better are the through-line that binds them.

Alicia Keys Plays ‘Moonlight Sonata’ at Memorial After Story About Kobe Bryant

Majic Shows Love To Kobe Bryant

Source: Radio One / Radio One Digital

Alicia Keys was one of the performers who paid tribute to Kobe Bryant during the celebration of life of the basketball legend and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant.

Keys sat behind a piano wearing a light purple rhinestone-embellished purple suit jacket with puff sleeves. After Bryant’s former agent and best friend, Rob Pelinka, explained that Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” was a love song Kobe learned to play by ear for his wife, Vanessa, Keys played the beautiful ballad.

Pelinka told of how hard the classic ballad is to play and how Kobe self-taught himself the song within a week.

Keys was one of the first performers to address an audience following the death of Bryant. Alicia hosted the Grammy awards on the Sunday evening of his death and put together an impromptu performance with Boyz II Men to open the ceremony.
