Boom Moment In Hip-Hop

On this day in 1996, the O.G. Kool Keith released Dr. Octagonecologyst, his first studio album under his alter name Dr. Octagon. After a few years of releasing albums with the Ultramagnetic MCs, Keith began recording under his other character, Dr. Octagon. Who was Dr. Octagon? A murderous time-travelling gynecologist from Jupiter… Singles from the album include “Earth People,” “Blue Flowers,” and “No Awareness (Lyrical Hydraulics).”

The album failed to garner much mainstream appeal upon its release, but had a huge hip-hop underground following, some even said it revitalized the underground hip-hop scene. Years later, the LP finally got its major recognition when it was named one of the best hip-hop albums of the 90’s.
